You can run medium/high settings, no reason to get for consoles if you prefer the PC in this case.

I never got an answer a couple pages back so....

Windows 7 32bit
Intel core 2 duo e8500 @3.16GHz
4GB ram (3.2)
dual NVIDIA 9800 GT in SLI mode at 1366x768

You'll be able to play with high/max settings.

I'd like to know how DA:O would fare on my current laptop. Thanks in advance.

Let's just say that what you've been thinking about is the right thing to do.

Not too well i'm afraid, although i think it should run at low settings. Laptops are really bad at running games.

Very low settings, limited resolution.

If you're buying a new one and want to play games, go for at least a mid-range GPU.

I'm wondering if my laptop would even work at all.

OS: Windows 7
Processor:  Intel core 2 Duo CPU   T6400  @ 2.00GHz (2CUs), ~2.0GHz
Memory:  3GB
Graphics:
Card name: Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family   Manufacturer: Intel Corporation   Chip type: Mobile Intel® 4 Series Express Chipset Family   DAC type: Internal   Device Key: Enum\\PCI\\VEN_8086&DEV_2A42&SUBSYS_FF661179&REV_07   Display Memory: 1341 MB   Dedicated Memory: 128 MB   Shared Memory: 1213 MB   Current Mode: 1280 x 800 (32 bit) (60Hz)

And yes, I know the graphics card sucks.

Make it at least ATI Radeon HD 4670 for very little and you are good to go.

My graphics card has
Video RAM = 3.5 GB
Video Card 3D Acceleration = Yes
Video HW Transform
& Lighting = Yes
Vertex Shader Ver. = 4.0
Pixel Shader Ver. = 4.0

I think it should be able to run it...

Will the game run on with a Radeon x1200 with 831 mbs video card? (The other specs are fine). I think this version is less than the minimum, although the memory is more than enough. So will it work?

It's going to be close.  You might get away with lower settings.

Check out www.srtest.com on your system and see what it tells you about the games listed in the above article.  DA:O is not on srtest yet.

Perhaps a bad omen: that test actually crashes out both my firefox and my internet explorer..
.
But thanks for the tool

Guys who have pre built computers:
Unless you bought the gaming edition or have heavily modified it already, chances are the machine you have(Dell, Acer, HP etc) is not ready for pc gaming these days. I know it sux when you spend 800 bux on a kick butt computer, but many pre built systems are so overpriced it's scary. To be truthful, they do everything 99 percent of the population needs a computer to do BUT gaming.

The ironic thing is, if you build a computer yourself, you actually SAVE MONEY and get a better computer.

I guarantee, I can build you a DA worthy computer for under 400 dollars(assuming you already have a monitor and case). That's less than a new PS3(or about equal) when it first came out.

The bad news? You need to upgrade every 18 months to 2 years to stay current. The good news? You can sell you old parts to help fincance it and cut that $400 in half.

Checking in with my laptop's specs....

Windows Vista SP 2

Intel Core 2 Duo P8600 2.4 Ghz

4 GB RAM

GeForce 9650M GT 1 GB VRAM

I don't care about the graphics too much.  I just want a smooth experience on low to medium graphics settings.  Should my laptop be able to handle that??

Medium or medium-high actually.

Assuming the VRAM runs at a reasonable speed, anyway.

I hvae the option of any of the 3 platforms for the game. It sounds like PC is the best choice, all other things being equal.
Here's my PC:
Core 2 Duo 6600@2.4 GHz
2046MB RAM
GeForce 8600GT
Vista Home Premium SP2

How will the game run on my PC relative to 360/PS3?

Thanks for opinions.

Throw a 9800 GT in there for $100 bucks.  It will perform MUCH better with that card.  The 8600GT isn't a good gaming card..

Core 2 Duo 1.66 ghz

Would I be able to run Medium settings with a solid framerate? Obviously my processor is a weak point.

"Can I run this" tech demos need to be mandatory.

Now I know I'll be able to run the game pretty well, but I've got a technical question for the tech experts here.

CPU : Core 2 Duo E6400 2.13 GHz
RAM: 2GB DDR-800
GPU: NVIDIA Geforce 8800GT 512 MB
OS: Windows XP 32 bit

My question is I'm wondering if I can play in high settings because it seems like in most games I have problems with complex shadows.  I almost always get a huge framerate boost by lowering or disabling shadows while changing other settings (HDR/bloom, AA, AF, etc...) doesn't effect my framerate as much.  Also in scenes where there's alot of shadows my framerate drops significantly.  I'm wondering if maybe a GPU setting might be causing this, or is my slower CPU causing a bottleneck?

This is where we are a bit unsure of how much the processor matters, it may be possible that you can run the game at high regardless.

Hell, I'm perfectly okay with Medium as long as I can eek out 30ish fps.

I might have to go cancel my Gamestop order tomorrow.
