I don't see why you'd want an i7, unless you're doing some heavy professional stuff on it. It's big overkill for a gaming-rig.Syrellaris wrote...
personally I am looking into a new rig that contains
Cpu : I7
mobo : Asus, most like with 6-8 PCI-E 2.0 16x slots. Supporting over 16 GB ram
Ram : Corsair DDR3 or better. minimum of 8 GB, max of 16.
Videocard : 2x dx11 in SLI
PSu : 1000 Watt Zalman or other superior brand.
You can never have enough RAM though, only shortage on money.
Oh and please [fanboymode] don't go for Nvidia. First of all, they don't even have DX11 cards yet, and it will take a while before they'll come. And secondly, I hate them, because they trick developers in making games semi-exclusive for their hardware (the Batman game). Support the open market! So just buy yourself 2x HD5870, or even 2x 5970 if you'd like (5970 is the name for the HD5870X2, but isn't out yet, it'll come somewhere in November)[/fanboymode]
And a 1000W PSU is overkill aswell, although not if you're going for a quad-GPU setup.
Your post is just plain wrong.
First of all, the core i7 has turned out to be a superb CPU for gaming - GTA 4, for example, runs like crap on almost any CPU but the i7. That trend is only going to continue.
Secondly, you state that you can never have enough RAM - well, for gaming, at present, anything more than 4 gigabytes is overkill. You don't need it. No game is going to show any performance gain with more than 4, and quite frankly you're going to be good to go at 3.
Third, please don't go around telling people not to buy a card from Nvidia because you happen to like ATI - that is just sheer bloody arrogance.
