You can be talking to an important npc where they ask you a question. If you answer the question
and don't choose the sub text that usually tells about them and gives some history, you will likely
get locked out. In other words- ask your questions the first time or else forget it you will be locked out
of any dialog.

I find it annoying because I want to talk to them and follow the dialog flow and afterwards ask the
questions such as, where are you from, why did you do that, etc.

Has anyone else been annoyed by that?

I guess I will have to break the flow of dialog and just ask them their personal life history
when they are talking to me about whether they should kill me or not.

Id have to agree, i can usually play through games completely enthralled but it was a big pet peeve of mine when this would happen. Especially for key party members or important relationship moments where the option doesnt come up again if you choose a response which the game deems "out of order." Though i like how your party grows around you which would be interesting if they did something like this in other rpg games i miss the party camp from the first dragon age where you could go strike up a conversation whenever. But im not done with the game yet so ill see how it goes
