this fight is not fun, and it makes me feel like my character is such a b*tch. ive been loving the harder fights, but this one doesnt make you feel like a badass at all, loving the rest of the game though

The Arishok must have drank around 10 potions before he finally stopped/ran out.

People playing the 2-handed: my advice (learning how effective it is later) is to use crow venom (very efective since it slows down his attack rate), stun him (with pommel strike), use both blood frenzy and (upgraded) might, then bash on him until he's not stunned. Rinse and repeat.
For anyone interested in the glitch, after he charges, if he is facing the main door into the room, hit him with a tar bomb, sticking him in place. Then, run up behind him. If you're lucky (if you want the glitch) he will impale you, llifting your character into the air. If he is close enough to the door, he will throw you through it. After that, so long as you have Area of effect skills (since you can't target him with normal attacks - Dog can though, oddly) you can kill him without getting hurt. Just don't stand next to the doors as he can attack just a small distance through them.

Either way, my party was able to deal with the group fight incredibly easily (on Hard difficulty).
Aveline, Varric, Merril, and I (Mage). Sent Aveline in to attack the Arishok and draw all the aggro. Her gift reward shield you get right before this is a HUGE help here with it's damage return. It almost guarantees that everyone will stick to her.
Turn on Immovable if you have it for extra survivability, since she doesn't need to attack to hold aggro, and she won't be moving anywhere for a while. Bravery is also quite effective here, making her produce more than 3 times the normal threat with all the enemies stacked on her.
Everyone else just spams skills to kill the four enemies in the lower area, then drops as many AOE's as we can right on top of Aveline. Focused regular attacks/single target skills on the Mages to get them down next, then cleaned up everyone else until the Arishok was left. Killed him easily then, since Aveline built for pure tank and damage soak is ridiculously durable.
Only had to use 1 health potion, improved Heal was enough to deal with everything else.
I was really worried when the fight started that I would get owned with how outnumbered you are, but winning it really gave me that "Damn, we are a bunch of Badasses" vibe.
I think there's 2 Mages, 4 ranged, 6 or 8 melee, and the Arishok himself all at the same time. No waves here thankfully.

Stupid fight, intensely boring and only possible to win by cheesing.
(On normal. I played the rest of the game on hard, but turned it to normal for this duel. I suspect I coudl win it on hard, but it'd probably take a good hour or so. It took about 20 minutes on normal.)
Didn't do it as a group fight, but I can't really see the issue. Let Aveline tank him, clean up the mages first, then the other trash, then deal with him using cross class combos.

The first is a Horizontal slash that for the life of me I only was able to avoid by being lucky and moving BEHIND him when he first started that animation.
The other is the one where he just spins his blades around, he'll hit you multiple times during this one but just take 2 steps back and you avoid it completely.
Having Reaver as one of my specs probably helped out also with the heal in it's line, but basically just micromanage your character and it's not that hard, just don't try to go toe to toe with him as a Melee Character.

I cannot figure out a way to win as a rogue. He bloody still hits me when I'm -behind- him after a backstab. I actually turned the game down to casual because I'm getting so frustrated and STILL no luck. I'm a dual-wielding rogue, with no archery talents to try to make this easier.... which I imagine they would by quite a bit just considering how much kiting I'm having to do.. I keep my hound out at all times, use backstab everytime it comes up. I'm finally trying the archery method, and it got me hurt less, but still couldn't get him even to the K of his name. (On a previous attempt, I got him to the H Arishok but that was it.) I don't know why they had to give him health potions on top of him being ridiculously powerful. He drank at least twice in one of my fights. I'm really discouraged and thinking I won't even see ACT III at this rate... and I'm one of the people who DID punish myself by doing GOA DLC and defeated the harvester.
I've kited him around the pillars, wait for him to charge and then hit him while he's dazed from his charge. I get that "Run like hell" half of the time seems to be a required tactic... but is there anything obvious I'm missing from rogue that would make this easier? I even had lacerate on when I was melee and it never seemed to make a difference. :/
I've beaten him solo as a Rogue, I found Decoy works wonderfully (still takes a while), I don't know if it was my game glitching or what, but sometimes when I use Decoy, he would break and at least visually appear not to be doing anything. Sometimes however I'd suddenly see a blue-swirl around him and he'd hit me rather hard, knocking me away.
However, most of the time he just kept wailing at my Decoy (when he wasn't bugged) and that'd get me plenty of hard-hits in. I just had to make sure to pull away before his spin went off to avoid damage. Avoiding his charge and getting hits in also eventually wittled him down (I wonder how it would've went had I used poisons?). I have to say, throughout the entire game as a Rogue, I think Decoy (especially with an upgrade or two) is my favorite skill.

I was a mage so I had no problem, technically speaking. I used no potions but the fight consisted of 15+ minutes of running in circles waiting for him to charge and then unloading a CC and a few spells.
Given that I had been on pretty good relations, and the Arishok challenged me to an honorable 1 on 1 duel, I felt pretty crappy about cheesing him like that. On the other hand I reloaded and tried a straight up fight and got 2 shot'd, so as far as I can tell there is no way to beat him without benny hill kiting.

Sad.
I actually kind of liked the Arishok. I don't think the Qun is the solution (you ain't treating my sister like you treat your mages, bud), but he's right that the city was an unjust sewer which needed cleaning up
