Did it on normal with a dual wielding assassin rogue.
Couldn't take him head on so i had to run around pillars(ALOT).

Spammed backstab and Assassinate(Mine deals 1000+ damage, apparently. ) and kited him for the rest.
Needed some health pots and stamina pots but managed to finish in a couple minutes on normal.
Haven't played any other toons yet though.

This is by far the worst fight in the game simply because of it's sheer tediousness.

As a two hander, I simply had to attack him through the pillars (summoning the mabari let it do a nice blocking motion). It seems to be the only way, as the Arishok seems to be able to hit you even if you move out of the way of his attacks.

Not to mention it can just randomly decide to stick a sword in you, which means you not only get hit for that much, but you take a consecutive swing while trying to get up.

Beat him on normal as a Spirit Healer Mage playing on PC. I quite literally put Hawke on autoattack and stepped away from the computer. I assumed the Ashirok would run out of health pots eventually and knew Hawke's heal aura was so broken he couldn't be killed.

I beat him as a mage my first time think he might of used maybe 5 potions (which I cussed about I will admit. Though was refreshing to see a boss use player tactic's refreshing not enjoyable big difference =P ) Crushing prison works wonder's it will stun him if you have the upgrade then just drop a fire storm worked for me that and a very good staff helps a lot.

Stand still, let him get to you, when he is about to strike run behind him and hit him hard. Repeat.

To beat him, I just kept healing my party until I ran out of health potions, then grabbed Aveline, equipped her with health-replenishing items, and ran around in circles until the health was full then attacked him.

Duelled him with a 2-hand warrior on nightmare. Just cheesed the slag by abusing one of the pillars. If you hug the pillar and kite the Arishok around it, you can whack him through the wall without him being able to retaliate. Ghey, I realize this but since the fight was ghey in and of itself I didn't feel too guilty over it.

Hmm, I played on casual and he didn't drink any health potions... maybe I was just lucky?

I dueled him as a sword and shield warrior and beat him my first try. True it was just on casual but I thought I saw some posts where people were having trouble with that too.

I wanted to loot his corpse and get his nifty weapon to give to Fenris D: Lame cutscene denying my looting grabby-hand tendencies.

Dueled him the man's way, one on one, on normal mode. I was a LV 18 Blood/Spirit Healer Mage.

The fight literally took hours thanks to the endless kiting...but when I beat him...I was extremely satisfied with my new found sense of badassery.

I noticed that running away from him didn't work as his hit box seems to extend outward from him. To avoid getting hit, once you see the attack animation start moving around him until you are at his side. As a rouge, I could get three hits in before having to run again.

I used my mage on normal in a 1vs1 dual, yes it's as hard as it sounds. If you try this heal after every hit you take because usually two or three hits will kill a mage.

I used the creation spells to deal damage to him when he charged and missed, otherwise I just circled him until he tried to swing and missed then used regular attack to chip away at his health. It takes awhile but just circle and hit and his health will drop like a stone, and like I said heal after every hit, a good time to do so would be when he rushes at you and misses.

Talk about pillar humping :P I haven't done so much of that since WoW PvP, and I didn't enjoy it then either :P

Anyway, yeah, mage... ran around the pillars and let him get close enough to charge, then crushing prison/glyph of paralysis/slow (force mage thingy, can't remember name heh), and whatever other single target spells you might have time for before he comes after you again. He resists a good chunk of the time so, yay, more pillar humping. And stay topped off, he had a chain attack that would damn near do me in.

Took like 10 minutes. Patience, and for me I couldn't really try to do more than 1 or 2 spells before I had to get moving again.

I beat him easily 1v1 with a mage spirit healer (normal difficulty). Just stood in one spot and auto-attacked him to death. On a side note i found that spirit healer was pretty much unkillable in every fight for the rest of the game, don't think i ever dropped once, and somehow i always was able to hold aggro on bosses with just auto-attacks.

I just beat him on hard as a 2-hand war w/ no pots.

At the start of the fight I summoned the mubari and started running figure eights around the pillars. While doing this I would pan the camera to watch him behind me so I could see when he was doing his charge. Once he did a charge I would run after him and start beating him while he was on the wall until the effect faded. I usually did either (1) three normal sword swings or (2) a Reave followed by a mighty blow. After this I would retreat and rinse and repeat. Fight took about an hour to complete.

Observations:
1) He used three potions in my fight on hard
2) When he charged into the walls, the time he was disoriented seemed to be varied; sometimes it would instantly fade off. It is important to notice when the charge bugs so you don't start attacking him while he can retaliate.
3) If you kite long enough mubari will get aggro. If he gets aggro just walk up behind Arishok and wait 10 secs or so to make sure you won’t pull. Begin hitting once, backing up, waiting for 2 secs, and then repeating. Rinse and repeat till mubari fades or he loses aggro when Arishok charges. Summon mubari again asap.
4) When kiting around the pillars, it is important to go wide enough that he can’t hit you with his cleave move through the pillar.
5) It is important to watch him at all times. If he gets caught on a pillar at one end and it holds him up, he might come the opposite way around the pillar on the other end to get you. If this happens just juke and go back the way you came.
6) If you take too long attacking his back after a charge he may impale you before you can land a mighty blow. If this happens try to run immediately as this attack and the following combo will leave you close to death. Afterwards, skip a few phases where you would normally attack him so reave can come back up. Use reave by itself after the next charge. This will guarantee a health gain without risking retaliation.
7) If Arishok begins to perform the duel weapon move that knocks you off your feet, you should move around him rather than away from him to avoid it.
8) Patience will kill him. If you get aggravated or greedy he can waste a character in fashion.

As a rogue it is possible to kill the Arishok 1v1 relatively easily.  If you have the decoy, just pop that down and do as much damage as possible while he's pre-occupied.  Rinse, lather, repeat.

Just did the duel with a rogue archer. It's possible to kite him without getting hit at all. The problem is that his attacks have a long frontal range so even if you back away before he finishes the swing it will still connect. Another problem is that he sometimes uses a circular attack so you need to keep a distance.
What I found working best is to run Towards him at 10 or 2 o'clock until he tries to swing at you and when you're at safe distance shoot him. I used The Heavens' Answer bow which was a tremendous help with the 5% stun and kept unloading Assassinate when ready. Don't try to CC him when he's about to use the potions I got to do that and he just drank the potion when the stun ended.
I don't know why but at my final attempt he didn't impale me which proved fatal the former tries.

Yeah I dueled him on spirit healer mage, no damage spells at all. Honestly I just kited him, and spawned dog for extra dps (about the only time I ever used the dog lol -- was pretty much using dog as decoy) and stunned him with mind blast when I could. It took like 20 minutes, but I never really was threatened. (This was the first time I had the option to duel so I was all -- sure why not.)

On my rogue I had to use potions out the butt. And it sucked a lot more. I figured warrior would be pulling enough dps that it wouldn't be a huge deal...odd.

But yeah just try to stock up on potions, run away from him when needed. Try to avoid his charges, tho his impale thing is annoying, I never noticed it doing huge amounts of damage (not sure if it was bugged on normal or what, but looks like it would of killed me or at least hurt...).

As a rogue all i did was kite him til my backstab and twin fangs were ready to deploy and carried shedloads of potions with me...... run away, pause, backstab, unpause then once you pop up hit the twin fangs ( or assassinate, players choice) then run like hell in the opposite direction. adn if he starts to swing, run away at a 90 degree angle so as to avoid his range and rinse and repeat.....

as a Warrior though, two handed weapons seemed to work best for me (sword and shield just seemed useless) i would just charge him, slam him, do my spin attack and then run around a bit to get some of my health back. took me half as long with warrior cos of the extra damage i was doing

Still got to try it as a mage though.... so that should be interesting..... im guessing just hold him in place with petrify then rain fire on his head though. should work pretty well..... lol

Dueled with him with 2H Warrior on reaver with pummel and cleave.
Always try to pummel him and you will get 5-6 strikes if the pummel connects,
after he started attacking, just keep on attacking until he strikes you and you stagger. Run!
When he started dancing, run!
When he started his bull charge, run!
Always ready to run!
Finally I ended it with whirlwind and he is down!

Man, the Arishok reminds me of Cervantes! Thanks God he doesn't change into Soul Edge type Abomination (not that it won't be cool :) )

When the fight is over, the expression of the pretty seeker is priceless lol!

I dunno that we can beat him with a team.

I was hoping that it would be a fun fight, but instead it was just boring kiting and casting for my mage in the duel. At that point I couldn't risk letting him hit me at all because the ability that raises you on his sword would 1-shot me. The potions he used were just a pain in the bottom, too. The duel was not challenging, it was just LONG, and I never had to pop potions because of mana regen and being a spirit healer, so his potions were just making a boring and long fight EVEN LONGER ARGH.

I wish they would have designed it as a fun fight. As it is, even in Normal, I just have to kite and smack until he's down. NOT FUN.

I just straight up killed him and every single one of his men, no duel. Playing as 2-handed warrior on normal. Took out all of his men first, he knocked out Aveline though before it was over.

I beat him with my rogue after finding an easy (albeit LONG) strategy. DA 2 doesn't automatically grant damage based on die rolls. This means that before damage is granted, the attack has to actually connect. Run close enough to him that he begins his attack animation but don't stop. His attack animation are pretty long (DAO 2h warrior long). By the time you've gotten past him he'll still be in his attack animation. Hit him a few times then run by him again when his animation is done.

With this strategy, you'll be receiving manageable damage (he has a whirlwind-like attack that hits you if you're anywhere close) and will be whittling down his health a lot quicker than just kiting him waiting for the charge.

Beat him in a duel as a dual weapon rogue (on casual, mind you). You don't actually want to go after him when he charges and gets dazed, as that's when he tends to turn on you and impale/do that massive strike.

Instead, wait till your CDs are up, dance in front of him just out of range, and he should do his massive swing attack. It'll take him a minute to swing down. Use backstab, you won't take the hit and his weapons will get stuck in the ground for a moment. Use twin fangs. Get the hell out and kite him till both are back up. Repeat. Bring lots of health potions in case he catches you.
