Anyone else having audio issues while playing the game? The whole time it sounds like I am in a cave. Everyone's dialog has an echo to it. It sounds very muffled and low quality. No other game I have played does this, just DA2. Updated video card drivers, using a card that came with my ASUS Rampage forumla motherboard, Supremefx II.

I have this periodically, I think it's some sort of lag-like issue when another process puts demands on my system--for example, when I try to take a screenshot with Fraps.

Yeah I am having the same issue, but now it has gotten worse and it sounds like all the characters are gargling when they are talking and music sounds like some bad techno music.

Hmm... having the same problem here. Game unlocked via Steam today. D/L extra content and installed. All other in game sounds are OK, but dialogue only is either muffled with an echo or speech disappears entirely in cut scenes. i.e. mouths move but no speech heard. Latest Creative drivers. NB: Speech worked fine in the demo version.

Having similar audio issues, seems restricted to conversations (ambiance and battle sounds are fine). At times the speech is very quiet, other times it sounds great. No change between forcing stereo, volume is maxed, demo didn't have this issue

Dammit... just finished Origins and DLCs and really enjoyed that. Was really looking forward to this after playing the demo. Looks like back to F3, new vegas for a while

I was going to make a post about this as I am having similar issues, dialog seems low in certain conversations and gradually gets back to normal..very odd. There is also an issue of some loud constant sound while I'm in combat, not sure if this is normal, but it seems to be playing this sound constantly instead of battle music. Every other game I play seems normal, and this is the first Audio issue I've encountered.

My sound is okay, but whenever someone talks behind me I get a soft echo/reverb of the dialogue. Very annoying, makes it sound like we're in a tiny cave/toilet all the time. And I've tested it out in the open so it shouldn't be an environmental effect going awry. Sound in other games, even DA:O, is fine...

Xonar D2X. Latest drivers

Anyone found a solution for this problem yet? Was happy i finished my day at work and could finally play DA2, till i noticed this echo problem.

Changed some settings here and there, but nothing changed. Every other game is fine for me as well. (also didn't had this problem in the demo)

EDIT: Had my sound configuration set on 5.1. When i changed it to "stereo", the problem was solved.

I also have the issue where the charactors sound like they're speaking in a cave. It actually sounds as though their dialogue is detached from their bodies! All other audio appears to be working normal. Just the conversations are weird sounding.

BTW I only have a two speaker setup and my Creative software is set to two channel mode. I've also checked to make sure there were no effects being applied and there isn't.

Hmm.. Finally solved the dialogue muffled/cave sound in cutscenes. I too had 5.1 speaker set up but changed to 2.1 speaker sound and from entertainment to game mode, (Creative SB X-fi titanium) voila, I can now hear the bloody voices instead of echo's. Thanks for the clue GlaCiuz. Funny thing is that all other games work fine for previous setup.

My issue may be the same thing, but I can't seem to fix it. It seems my sound card is stuck in thinking that there are surround sound speakers plugged in when there aren't. Everytime I boot up now it asks what I plugged into the black audio jack when nothing is plugged into it. I'm thinking I need to get a new sound card.

I've got the same issue. I wasn't sure if it was a bug or just overactive echo effects. It didn't kick in until I got into the city. Sound effects are fine and dialog only has a bit of an echo, but party banter and such as you move around has a tendency to cut out unless they're on camera at the time. So if my party members are behind me I'll often miss some or all of their banter if I'm not careful to keep them in sight at all times. Same for random NPC comments on the street. Turning the "Force Stereo" sound option on or off doesn't really seem to have much effect.

I'm using an older SoundBlaster Live 24 with headphones. I've noticed several other comments mentioned SoundBlaster cards, so is this just a problem with SoundBlaster cards or are other people having issues too?

EDIT: Ok, I feel stupid. Looks like my audio jack wasn't fully seated. That seems to have solved most of my issue. Still a bit like I'm in a well but I can hear people behind me now.

Same problem. Audigy 2 ZS. Speaker settings for windows and creative were not set to 5.1. Messing around didn't change anything.

Your welcome. For those that still got the problem and tried this, try to turn on "Force stereo sound" in the audio settings. When i put back my configuration to 5.1 and enabled that option, the sound was still fine.

I'm having similar problems at present, my audio was already set to stereo and fiddling with the force stereo setting does little to change anything. If anyone has any other ideas as to how to fix the problem I'd really appreciate the help!

I had the problem with no sound in dialogs or cinematics on my laptop.
what I did was to [verify integrity of game cache] in steam. It found error in one file, and now I have sound again.

I have a feeling its my sound card and 5.1 vs stereo sound settings. The sound echo makes me think that the game is using my two front speakers as if they were the two back surround sound speakers. I just purchased a new sound card. I will see in a few days if that fixes the issue. The one I have now has not had its drivers updated since 2009.

The problem seems to be most noticeavle when in the city, Lowtown and Hightown.

I've got the echo thing, I've got a Creative XFI Xtreme Audio card, set to headphones in the creative console (as that's how I listen to the sound), and I get an very noticeable echo when people are speaking. It only happens when I'm playing DA2, none of my other games have this.

Same problem here...Creative Xfi PCI-E card..latest version drivers (12 months old mind..Creative lol) started in Kirkwall on arrival..once I leave sound is fine..so it appears to be linked? to the city area itself.

Hmm, I did a quick check and it starts in Kirkwall for me as well. Prior to that the sound is absolutely fine, afterwards though constant echoing dialogue.

I'm using my motherboards built in sound, and I was using some 5.1 speakers but with it set on stereo on the Realtek HD Audio Manager. So to see whether it was just the computer getting confused I switched the 5.1 speaker set out for an old pair of simple stereo speakers. The result being exactly the same.

Same issue here, after entering the city, Audio Dialog is soft at max volume with lots of echo and difficult to understand.  Not certain if there is a hardware fix for this or not as it seems to persist through the following devices.

Create SB X-Fi
Motherboard Audio
External USB Speakers (2.1)

After trying various settings on X-Fi I disabled all audio devices and started turning on each of the above one at a time and trying just the single device enabled after reboot.  Issue persists through each device which is leading me to believe there is a software issue somewhere here.

Also tried with and without the in-game force stero option and disabling / re-enabling the dialog sound with multiple game restarts.

Open to any other ideas as I'm about out.  Win 7 Pro 64 bit

I'm out of ideas, though I did poke about in the .ini file and found these values:

CutsceneListenerRadius=1
ListenerPositionOffset=0.5
StreamPriorityBoost=0

No idea what they do, and I don't have the time today to fiddle around with them, but they might have something to do with it.

In the meantime I've sent a request for technical support to EA. Gods above know if I'll get a response but I'll keep my fingers crossed, and if it is a problem with the game that requires a patch hopefully sending official help requests will feed back to Bioware so they can sort it.

I'm also having issues with the sound, the only "music" I hear during combat are annoying "strings"...like there's only a groupf of violins playing the same monotonous kinda "horror-movie" like sound. I noticed though, that during gameplay the ffdshow audio decoder is processing the sound of DAII (CCCP Codec Pack) I'll try and see if I can disable it and see how it goes..

I have the same issue. Creative X-Fi here, latest drivers, set to 2/2.1.
Force stereo sound ingame option did nothing.
