So I put the game in windowed miss but at the 1330 res. Played a quest then cmd+q and it shutdown fine. 1440 in window does not allow me to see the powers or dialogue choices. Also, why does the fan sound like we are preparing for take off?

I know what you mean with the fan. I tried the smcFanControl just to see if it's the fan that's causing the crashes, but I guess it all boils down to the new graphics card not being updated.

My MBP fan is not noisy at all. I've played the game for hours.

But I have owned Alienware and Clevo gaming notebooks in the past, so maybe I have a higher pain threshold.

This is to confirm that I am having the same issue, either when quitting or exiting to desktop with the game running (Command-Tab). I am also on a new 2011 MacBook Pro 15" with the big AMD card. The issue is not 100% reproductible, though. It quits correctly like 40% of the time, the rest of the time it forces me to do a hard reset and I have to agree that this sucks bigtime.

This clearly seems to be an issue affecting all 2011 MacBook Pro machines with Dragon Age 2, perhaps with all Cider ports. I don't know wether Apple or Bioware can do something about it, or both, but let's hope they do it — FAST!

I have had zero issues since changing to windowed mode at 13xx resolution. Makes no damn sense to me.

I've been having this problem on my new 15" Macbook Pro (2011), as well. It happens both when trying to quit, as well as when I try to switch out of the application via Command-Tab.

I ssh'd into my machine when it things had hung up, and each time WindowServer was pegging the system, while cider sat in the background not doing all the much. Killing cider doesn't get things going again; WindowServer stays pegged and that's about it.

I can't see anything in any logs anywhere that suggest what's going on. OSX 10.6.7 was released and supposedly fixes some graphics stuff, but I'd feel very lucky if that solved the problem.

Just tried things out after upgrading to 10.6.7, and I could be nuts, but it hasn't hung up, yet. I've opened and closed DA2 six times, Command-Tab'ng in and out, and haven't had things hang up, yet. Those having problems may want to try upgrading 10.6.7 and see if that helps out.

Apple released a software update today, and according to it, a graphics update is included. Will post back to see if any changes are made.

EDIT

I've tried and tested it with the new update (Version 10.6.7), and it works perfectly. Though the fan still runs like we're about to take off (quoting Disemvowel).

Command+Tab in and out of DA2 works perfectly. And so does quitting from the in-game menu.

Currently running it on 1440x900, 8x AA, graphics set to high.

A question though: is there a "Very High" for Mac yet? I've seen the High Resolution Texture pack for Windows, but has it been released for Mac?

More information for the update: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4472 & http://reviews.cnet....045613-263.html

My Starcraft problems were solved by the update. Will try DA2 later.

I'm downloading the update right now. Apple has moved quickly on this one, thankfully.

Oh that's good. My new 2011' MBP 15" was delivered yesterday, but I still hadn't chance to play DA2 yet. (I'm still migrating from my older Mac... 16h left :~~~), but if Apple already released an update that solves these issues, I don't need to worry anymore :D

I sure hope the 10.6.7 update fixes this issue. Haven't tried to play anything since updating to 10.6.7, but everything else seems to be fine.
