How to start the Deep Roads expidition?

It still says he is making preparations for the expidition, I did all of the side quests, but all I get is Varric and his brother saying we'll be gone a few weeks and should maybe finish up things in Kirkwall then check back home. I go home, but I can't talk to Carver or Mother, so... What do I do..? I can't start the Deep Roads quest... Am I missing something?

One about mages, it said something like Varric can't get any information on it at this time.
