So I was trucking along in the game and then ran into the large Profane in the vault of the deep roads and it seems to be getting a kick out of wiping my group when it gets down to about a third health. Did anyone get through this well enough to pass on a strategy? I think it may be hurting me on who i have with me as well. Thanks for the comments and help in advance

well i did two tries first time i got trashed second time i had my tank using both turn the blade and shield defense to give a good boost to def good equipment is a major need here. keep using taunt especially when it summons the minions and when it does summon them take them out fast dont worry about the big guy keep using potions and if you have anders with you and have his heal spells use them if you dont have anders then your in for one hell of a fight. i wish you good luck i did it on normal and it was a pain to deal with

On Nightmare I pretty much got it down completely on my third try.

Pretty much forced everyone but my tank to be ranged for the fight (if you're using two warriors I guess you're screwed on that part and it'll just take longer)

For the first phase just have your tank taunt and kite him around the pillars while your ranged attack him, only taunt with the tank and keep from being in his view so he can't shoot lasers at you.

When he's about to explode put everyone behind a pillar to avoid damage, preferably the same. Micro-manage each person to take down different smaller profanes quickly and then take down as much health as possible.

For the second phase at the start just before he enters it put each ranged in a different corner of the map as well as your tank; whoever he rolls towards micro-manage to dodge it and then run away to make him take the maximum amount of time before he hits you and rolls again. Takes forever but it's pretty easy otherwise.

Repeat the explode phase

Last phase is easy, put all your ranged on one side again and pretty much attempt to do the same thing as phase 1 while running away and trying to get behind pillars when he teleports to the middle and tries to pull you in.

Repeat explode phase and last phase.

You may not need to avoid as much damage as I did if you're not on Nightmare, but he was destroying my tank so I kept it minimal.

Used a Melee Rogue Hawke with a bow, Aveline, Bethany and Varric.

You have no idea how many times I tried that sequence before realizing that if you hide behind the pillars you don't get damaged by the lightning attack. This idea that Bioware has a certain way of playing and punishing you for not doing that has bugged me for the entirety of the 17hrs I've played. I had the same feeling playing the poison gas mission. Also, last gripe, I hate their use of Monster closets. It's just lazy.

Lol yeah, on harder difficulties it feels like youre playing a CoD campaign mission on veteran. Actually..fighting geth would apply too, how many people were crammed in that room? Like you walked into the middle of a reunion hahaha

I thought this battle was easy O.o
My Hawke was a a mage and I upgraded both Fireball and Fire Storm so using both when the Wraith summoned the extras pretty much killed them all. I had Fenris tank and had me and Varric both target the Wraith. Anders did his heal thing, activated Panacea and used Aid Allies when the Wraith did that electricity thing.
Easy kill. XD

Edit: I play on Normal....so I don't know if it's much of an achievement, but there's a strategy. :P
