Mage Hawke, Isabella, Varric, and Anders: Functional party?

Anyway, I was really happy with the party banter and the characters themselves, but I haven't taken them into a situation heavy enough to judge whether or not this party compostion is functional to a sactisfactory degree.
I thought about replacing Anders with a damage dealer, but I can't decide which character I like best. It's a toss up between Merril, Lyrium tattooes guy, and the archer prince that I haven't gotten in my party yet so I don't know how much I like his character.
Anyway, can a party without a designated Healer function fluidly and do so without too much headache?

Any party is viable on Normal, this could work on Hard with enough kiting on PC, but with Armtice and Goad broken on console, you might have a much harder time doing it there.
I can do normal.
Do you know if the loot tables are tied to the difiiculty like Origins or are the loot tables static regardless of difficulty?

Sorry, no idea, but I ddidn't notice any difference in loot quality with my two characters (warrior's on nightmare, mage's on hard) on different difficulty setting, so I think it's safe to assume it's the same as DA:O
I'm not positive, but I thought loot tables changed based on difficulty for Origins. More specificlly I thought that there were armor and weapon drops from bosses that you wouldn't get unless you were on one of the harder difficulties.
It doesn't matter anyway. I like this party and I'm going to just roll with it. I may swap Anders out for someone because he's not half as much fun in the party as he was in Awakening. Now he's a grumpy cermudgeon like Garrus in Mass Effect.

Were there? I thought it was just a urban myth in Origin. Random drop actually...well dropped more easily on easy than nightmare when it comes to the Fade Wall or Warden Commander's Shield in my experience. And I agree about Ander, he's such a stick in the mud during quests, but his banter is still very funny with Isabella.

It may have been one of those hearsay things that just got passed on as truth. I was under the assumption that it was difficulty based and not random number generated.
Oh well. The only loot I really want is the Champion armor set for my Mage. I could care less about the rest of the loot.

I've gone with Hawke Mage with the Fire and Ice tree and a Bit of Force Mage, Varric with mostly Bianca points and some of his other character specifc tree with tons of Cunning for traps and locks, Isabela with auto level up, and Anders with a mix and match of whatever I felt he needed and the party needed when he levels up.
It's worked better than using Hawke for damage, Horse face chick as a tank, Varric as a Controller, and Anders as a Healer. It seems to be more efficient and fun. Granted, this on normal and I'm also on the 360 so I don't know how the encounters differ from the PC to the console versions.

Omg, so much better than having that one angry tank girl being all mean and whatever around. All those minor creeps getting litterally destroyed in seconds while I go around backstabbing and rippin' any tougher guys in half...ahhh...Bioware better not take that away from me if they do decide to patch some of the stuff people are complaining about haha.
