Hi everyone - to help coordinate the clutter, I'm creating a series of official sticky threads covering major issues.

This is the official thread for any issues that are preventing you from INSTALLING THE MAIN GAME (for DLC installation issues, go to http://social.biowar...0/index/6445619 instead). If you're experiencing such an issue or have a solution to such an issue, please post and discuss it here.

Thanks!

I am trying to install the Australian signature edition version of dragon age 2. My OS is Windows 7 Home premium 64bit.

The error i am getting is "We're sorry, an error has occurred - There is a problem with your game setup. Please reinstall your game".

I got this after trying to verify my game (after the release date check was successful). I have uninstalled and reinstalled my game, and it has had ZERO effect. I disabled my firewall, and ran the game in administrator mode, and i still get this error.

Thanks in advance.

EDIT: Progress!

I managed to get the game running. I uninstalled the game completely for the second time, then installed it to the default location (program files (x86)) with no DLC added on beforehand, disabled my firewall and ran the launcher.

Almost forgot, i ran the autorun.exe on the dvd as administrator. Maybe that contributed.

EDIT2: Added dlc, re-enabled firewall. game still works. So somewhere in that process above is the solution.

Please tell us what version and what region dragon age you are trying to install, and what your operating system is.

for example: Standard edition North america Dragon age 2 on windows 7 home premium 64 bit
or another example: Signature Edition UK Dragon age 2 on windows vista 32bit

or whatever you have. This will help narrow down options.

just bought my Dragon age 2 PC version (retail box version), when I tried to install after I click accept license agreement and clicked next then this pop out came which says:

'Gameplay Feedback
To improve product quality and user experience, this product may send your usage information such as game stats, settings, incident or event data to EA.... You can Modify the this setting in the game option at any time.'
When I clicked ok, it says the installation failed.

Any ideas of how can I fix in order so that I install the game properly??????????

My game version is: standard edition Country: Australia OS: Window Vista Home Premium

Amazon digital download version, trying to install on Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit.   Installation fails at 98.9% while extracting core_audio.rar every time (packages\\core\\audio\\sound\\wwisestreams_core.erf).  Tried to manually unrar this file as a test and get the message that the archive is corrupted.  I've completely re-downloaded all the install files 3 times now to be sure.

I have been unable to install the game from disk. Both my drives refuse to recognise the disk and just continually try to access it. I did exchange it just in case it was a bad disk but got the same problem with the new disk. Dragon Age II for PC/Mac - North American retail.

Both disk drives are LG Electronics models - one a couple of years old and one bought just a week or so ago.

(NOTE-I am playing the game since EA Support gave me access to download it though the issue of why the disks themselves are not even being read is unresolved)

I have the same edition of the game, but am running Win7 Ultimate 64bit.  I have the same problem.  I can't try installing it to the default location, though, because I don't have enough space on that partition.

(The caption of the error box is AWC.DLL.)

I'm having the same problem.  UK Signature Edition, retail running in Windows 7 64bit.  Installation will start and then I get the "installation failed" message.  I seem to get different completion percentages before the failure message (anywhere from instant failure to 30% installed).

running windows 7 64 bit, have matched or exceeded all recomended  requirments.

my issue is not confined to dragon age 2 but rather all games i try and install from disk, which fail at various point.

in regards to dragon age 2 i have tried running as administrator and all that but im still having problems. up to now ive sort of put up with this but i really want to be playing the game at midnight like the rest of the UK people will be.

hope a solution is forthcoming and if there is any info you need to be able to help let me know. Thanks

mark5500, if ALL games installing from disk are having an issue, and not just DA, you might want to look at replacing your disk drive...

Has anyone tried installing the game to the default directory? aka, not hitting "Custom install" and choosing one of your own? I was having the "Install failed" near the end of all of my attempts until I just left it on default path and it installed properly. Strange, but, it worked for me :/

An update on my continuing install trials and tribulations:
I still get the install fail regardless of which options I choose for the install.  There is a notepad file in my documents which contains details of all my install attempts.  The installs fail at different places each time but the error message is always:

Rar error: error 12 RAR process file failed: File CRC error.
Rar Details: 12 A Data error occured.
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=- |           FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED FAILED          | -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-Removing CD Key from registryCalling BWCustomAbort after ProcessInstallManifestBWCustomAbort calledCancelling while installing files; starting roll back...

Clearly some sort of error unpacking the files but interesting that it occurs at a different file each time.

I have just got my DVD of the game and can not install it...it fails without error at 63% through campaign_movies1.rar...
Like DA:O I have tried to copy the DVD to HDD to then install from there, but the copy is failing on the same file that the install is failing on.
I assume therefore that the DVD is corrupt...?!?

An update on the "We're sorry, an error has occurred - There is a problem with your game setup. Please reinstall your game" problem -- I had a chat to someone at EA Support and they suggested creating a completely new admin account and installing and validating the game using that. It worked (although it made me enter the product key twice, making this about ten times I've had to type that thing in). And I can run the game from my regular account now too.

It's still a stupid DRM bug and whoever wrote the thing needs a big slap on the head (creating a new account just to install a game? seriously?), but maybe this will help some other people.

Situation with game installation and BioWare gets really annoying.

Every BioWare game I bought was troublesome to install: DAO, DAO:A, ME, ME2 and now DA2.
Nearly every time problem occured when installation reached movie.rar files(of the games above, not only DA2). It is often connected with disk, copying files often shows errors. Installation was both annoying and time consuming to find a way, trick, to get it installed.

What I noticed with DA2 is that sometimes when I try to run disk computer stops responding in range of the disk, all else works fine. When I remove the disk suddenly I receive information to insert it and flood of strange errors appear on my screen, something with autorun application and each language version.
When getting through this and actually starting an installation message comes up "installation failed" when reaching MOVIE.RAR files. It is the same in both normal and safe mode.
I deicided to copy files and in normal mode I got message at VO files that said : "incorrect ms dos function", while trying to copy in safe mod I got "unable to read from source disk" at MOVIE.RAR files.

My first installation attempt was in safe mode, I though "knowing BioWafre installer there might be a problem". The fact that such though came to me speaks for itself.

I got Signature Edition. My PC meets the minimum requirements. Graphic drivers are updated.

I also find it somewhat strange that this forum is called "selfhelp", like BioWare counts on the community to work on ways around problems.
