Unable to Install the Main Game

Operating System: Windows 7 64bit
Issue: Error in Installation, please reinstall, occuring after online verification
Solution: I chose custom installation and changed the directory from Program Files(x86) to "C:\\users\\public\\games". Because of Windows 7 permissions, this is the better place to install a game.
As a result, the game was able to see that I did not have the latest version of direct x. It automatically installed the new version, and now the game works fine.
Hope this helps somebody. I did not check the rest of the thread, so this solution may have already been posted.

@ sightless_rain - Can you provide me with the exact wording of the error message?
Thanks!
"Setup is missing critical files in order to run."
"Please check to make sure that you are running Setup from the original package."
Sometimes it'll actually work for awhile then I'll get a generic "installation has failed" message with no explanation though I think they're related. I can generally get through the campaign.rar but when it gets to campaign movies it freaks out.

OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
PC is a 2.0GHz Athlon X2 laptop with 4.00GB RAM, 500 GB HDD. and a nVidia Geforce 9100M
Tried installing both Typical (c:\\program files\\) and custom (c:\\games\\), stops at Extracting core_audio.rar at 39.0%. Tried uninstalling the DA2 demo, same. Tried the above suggestion of installing to c:\\public\\users\\games\\, stopped at the same file, but at 45.6%. Noticed one thing each time. The disk stops spinning at this file while the game is still installing. The last time (when it got to 45.6%) it restarted spinning and stopped again.

There's an odd discolored patch on my disk. I'd wonder if that was the problem if I hadn't already installed it successfully on my old XP machine.

My system:
Windows XP SP3 (all the latest updates) with DirectX 9.0c, Asus Striker Extreme motherboard, MSI Radeon R4890 Cyclone (also latest drivers), 2GB RAM, Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 2.4 GHz and with 21GB of space left on the partition I'm installing on.
Does anyone have any idea how to stop the rebooting? Or is there an alternative method to get the files installed (like manually extracting them or something like that?)

And I don't think my dvd drives are the problem here. I tried installing from both... same thing.
But just to be sure: I have a Samsung DVD-RW SH-S182D and a Plextor PX-130A

hard to say what could be causing that because it could be almost anything from hardware to something in windows. It could be a virus, it could even be your Anti-virus doing it. but my suggestion is make a new user account (admin), turn off your AV for the iinstallation, and try to install it under that new account ...See if it reboots then.

All failed installations were before the UK release date. When I came home and tried installing it Friday night I worked without any problem whatsover.
Could this be DRM related? Heard EA failed to disclose SecuRom on Dragon Age 2. Wouldn't be the first time that DRM has made installations wonky

"We are sorry an error has occured. There is a problem with your games setup. Please reinstall the game".
I've had this exact same BS message... it seems that when installing when you're prompted to install DirextX 10 - do it even if, like me, you're running a Win7 64 SP1 system with DX11 installed.
If you don't want to do a full re-install of the game, try this (it seems to have worked for me):
1: make sure you're logged in with an administrator account
2: create a system restore point (I'm paranoid an generally do this before installing any system files)
3: right-click on your DVD drive icon in "Computer" (the one with the DA2 disk in if you have more than one) and select "open" from the context-sensitive menu.
4: You should see a load of folders and files on the disk; there will be a folder called "DirectX" - open it,
5: In that folder is a file called "DXSETUP.exe" - run that and it should check your system and see if there are any DirectX updates required (for whichever version of DirectX you're using).
Once it's completed the DirectX update you _should_ be able to run the game without having to reinstall.
Hope that helps.
Thank you so much, I had the same problem and this worked like a charm!

As an important addition to what's been written (and if this is repeat news, I apologize; I haven't read this thread as extensively as another "Install Issues" thread that had been posted before), I just want to offer what may be an extremely simple remedy. I, too, was having the problem of my disc-copy of the Signature Edition just crashing halfway through with the generic, unspecified error message of "Installation has failed." I called Tech Support today, and they told me that my registration key works on the EA downloader. Just type it in and the game will start downloading all on its own; the physical disc is totally unnecessary, it seems.
My download progress of the game is well beyond where it would normally crash, let's hope that everything works out well, God willing. So, give that a try- just type in your CD Key in the EA Downloader and give it a shot!

I can't check the exact specs right now, but it's a LITE-ON DVD-RW on sata.
It's not the drive though. I installed the game successfully using the same drive on my XP machine before I upgraded it to w7.
Guess I'll try the DL work-around and hope they sort this out by mass effect 3.

... got a feeling i'll have the same problem with shogun 2 total war when i buy it on wednesday
I suspect it's possibly a DRM issue - odds are Shogun 2 will use Steam for DRM (like Napolean before it) so as long as you meet the minimum specs you should be ok. *fingers crossed as I've got Shogun 2 on pre-order*
