EV#52973 – Some are getting a AWC.dll error
- This appears to be due to computers having an outdated version of the Windows .NET Framework. If you perform a Windows Update, there should be an update to upgrade to .NET Framework 4. Grab that, and we believe that this issue will correct itself.
I had nothing available in Windows Update. So I manually downloaded the .NET installer and ran it, but still got the AWC.dll error afterward.
I saw someone else's note about admin and firewalls. I didn't mess with my firewall, but I tried running elevated (right-click the DA2 icon, choose "Run as administrator"). Note that my user is already in the administrators group, but you have to do this step to get the UAC prompt and force it elevated. Then, lo and behold, it finally activated and launched the game! Then I quit the game, launched again without elevation, and it all looks good now.

3) You should see something similar to this: http://i.imgur.com/HN86i.jpg
If this is what you're seeing, your WMI configuration has been corrupted. As a result, Windows is unable to determine your Processor and other hardware components and therefore DA2 is unable to determine your hardware components during activation.
3 is not true for my system, I see what processor and RAM I have on that screen.
Thanks for your hard work though James, much appreciated.

- Some are getting a "Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error
This is happening to me when trying to run the Configuration tool from the launcher (trying to run the game launches the config tool, so no joy there).
I'm running Windows XP.
Updating to the latest NVIDIA driver hasn't helped.
Another clue? EasyInfo doesn't work. Instead it provides an error dialog:
EasyInfo crashed with error: Provider load failure
Please restart the executable.
OK
eta
If I run Dragon Age II.exe directly from the bin_ship folder, I get the fancy graphical dialog box (see screenshots ad nauseam) with the error saying I need to be an admin to run this. Yes, I'm an admin.

same here james, appreciate your work, but system (which is vista) didn't give sh** about the things i was typing in the command prompt -.-.
But keep up the good work(sorry just a bit frustrated)
You've gotta run the cmd on admin mode.
Search in start-up, right click on the cmd icon and run it as admin then you will be able to configure.
But my comp only let me go as far as shutting down the programmes dependent on WMI, it failed to properly shut down WMI thus I couldn't salvage it.
Sigh.
I just want to play man.

I don't know what "one off" means, but I sure would appreciate some suggestions. I have no problems at all running the demo, and "can you run it" assures me that DA 2 should be quite comfortable on my computer.

I've been having the admin/guest account error on my Windows Vista Ultimate box, and so I followed the advice below.
I looked in Control Panel - System, and indeed the memory and processor are shown as "not availble."
So, from my Admin account, I entered the commands suggested, after backing up my repository:
net stop minmgmt (which successfully shut down a bunch of services)
winmgmt /salvagerepository (which replied "WMI repository is consistent")
This sounded like it thinks the repository is already consistent and didn't need fixing. So, I went to the System info panel again, and it still said "not available" for processor and memory. I rebooted, checked again, and it still said "not available." I started DA2 anyway, and not surprisingly got the admin/guest error again.
So, it sounds like this is on the right track, but for some reason the suggested fix had no effect (either on the System info panel or on the DA2 launch). Good to see it worked for some people.
Anyone else having the issue I'm having?
Thanks

Hi everyone. Sorry for the long wait. We believe we may have a preliminary solution for the Admin error. To be specific, the issue where users are seeing this image when attempting to activate the game:
http://i352.photobuc.../shaoel/da2.jpg
We believe this to be a result of WMI misconfiguration in a user's system. You can see if this is the case if your Windows is unable to see your system's hardware components (ie. processor, RAM, etc). You can verify if you are in this situation by doing the following:
Win7/Vista
1) Go to the Control Panel
2) Click on System.
To fix this, you will need to rebuild your WMI repository. I want to stress that this fix is not for users who are not running as Administrators. You must be logged in as an Administrator. In addition, if you are at all uncomfortable with the process of touching your system's WMI files, please wait for a more official fix.
Win7/Vista:
1) Open a Command Prompt (Windows Key + R, then enter 'cmd')
2) Within the command prompt, execute the following command: ' net stop winmgmt ' without quotations.
3) Backup your Repository folder (%SystemRoot%System32WBEMRepository) just in case you wish to restore it
4) Within the command prompt, execute the following command: 'winmgmt /salvagerepository' without quotations.
5) The above command will rebuild the repository if it is corrupted and then restart the WMI service.
After your WMI repository has been rebuilt, please try and activate DA2.
