Hi everyone. Sorry for the long wait. We believe we may have a preliminary solution for the Admin error. To be specific, the issue where users are seeing this image when attempting to activate the game:

http://i352.photobuc.../shaoel/da2.jpg

We believe this to be a result of WMI misconfiguration in a user's system. You can see if this is the case if your Windows is unable to see your system's hardware components (ie. processor, RAM, etc). You can verify if you are in this situation by doing the following:

WinXP:
1) Right click on My Computer and click on Properties
2) Incorrect information will be displayed for your system's Processor and potentially other hardware components in the bottom right

Win7/Vista
1) Go to the Control Panel
2) Click on System.
3) You should see something similar to this: http://i.imgur.com/HN86i.jpg

If this is what you're seeing, your WMI configuration has been corrupted. As a result, Windows is unable to determine your Processor and other hardware components and therefore DA2 is unable to determine your hardware components during activation.

To fix this, you will need to rebuild your WMI repository. I want to stress that this fix is not for users who are not running as Administrators. You must be logged in as an Administrator. In addition, if you are at all uncomfortable with the process of touching your system's WMI files, please wait for a more official fix.

WinXP:
Download the WMI Diagnosis Utility from Microsoft's site and execute the VBS script within. http://www.microsoft...1E-4C64192AE97D

Win7/Vista:
1) Open a Command Prompt (Windows Key + R, then enter 'cmd')
2) Within the command prompt, execute the following command: ' net stop winmgmt ' without quotations.
3) Backup your Repository folder (%SystemRoot%System32WBEMRepository) just in case you wish to restore it
4) Within the command prompt, execute the following command: 'winmgmt /salvagerepository' without quotations.
5) The above command will rebuild the repository if it is corrupted and then restart the WMI service.

After your WMI repository has been rebuilt, please try and activate DA2.

Hot fix this weekend?? Please I dont want to go outside.  I hate that idea.  Me want cave and DA2

SO what happens if i can see my system ram ,cores

^-- this.

I tried it, eventhough WMI was not a problem. I appreciate the help, but a true hotfix would be nice

NO Solution for me! ...
Still get the error:The application will not run on a Windows guest account or an account with insufficient privileges... blablabla
I tried the WMI repository solution, and after this: c:\\>net localgroup administrators NetworkService /ADD

Still nothing, still the same problem. I can't play. Now what?

Is the System Information dialog still showing the symptom of no CPU or memory info? Can you confirm that you're renaming/destroying their current repository folder before running the 'winmgmt
/salvagerepository' command?

Thanks!

A BETA patch is available to non-Steam-users and should fix any issues specifically related to the Release Control DRM. Other issues remain, however, and I'm keeping to opening post of this thread up-to-date with the latest issues, fixes and workarounds. Hopefully we can have most of you up and running in time for the weekend.

Thanks!

THANK YOU! Finally... This fixes the issue where nothing would happen after pressing play.

EV#52957 – Some are getting a “Dragon Age II has stopped working” error3. Install (and reinstall twice) with windows firewall and uac off and antivirus disabled
Vista 64
Geforce 8600m gt 512mb
t7500 2.20ghz core 2 duo

I've already tried (not necessarily in order):
1. Running in dx9
2. Installing (and then reinstalling multiple times) with windows firewall, uac, and symantec off.
3. Clean install of newest beta drivers (linked to from one of the other stickied threads here) for my video card
4. clearing all temp files
5. running in compatability mode
6. run as admin
7. Other miscellaneous (general) fixes that EA's useless level 1 tech support gave
(patch isn't supposed to be applicable so I didn't touch it)

I had finally begun to trust bioware. I loved me2 and da:o, so I finally shelled out the money for one of Bioware's games. at least I'd be up 50$...

I've been patient thus far, I can wait a few more hours/days, ja?
And though your quick-fix for the admin. problem may not work for me, I am at the very least thankful that you're still trying to fix the problem.
I'll wait for the official fix patch!
I look forward to FINALLY play Dragon Age 2 ~_^
Keep it up Bioware!

this beta patch is not suppose to fix the administrator error problem right?

Because i applied it and no go.

It does indeed NOT fix the admin. problem.
Don't worry, I read the post that said it wasn't going to, and I did it anyway, out of sheer curiosity, and to possbily fix any other problems I might not have picked up on (ya never know) and it doesn't.
Ah well, at least they put something out, eh?

JuggyGales - right. I tried the patch for grins, and it didn't fix the admin error problem for me, either. And I've already tried all the other WMI fixes listed here (and some others on the 'net).

For those still experiencing the Admin error (EV#52959), are you still exhibiting the out-of-game symptoms described here:

"You can verify if you are in this situation by doing the following:

WinXP:
1) Right click on My Computer and click on Properties
2) Incorrect information will be displayed for your system's Processor and potentially other hardware components in the bottom right

Win7/Vista

Thanks chris2c2 - and just to be triple-sure can you confirm that you...
  • ...renamed/destroyed your current repository folder before running the 'winmgmt/salvagerepository' command?
  • ...ran the “net localgroup administrators NetworkService /ADD” command prompt?
Sorry - still trying to hammer this out with the engineers.

I've gone through all the steps that you posted, and I even tried the “net localgroup administrators NetworkService /ADD”
Not entirely sure what else to do other than just wait for y'all to put out a patch.
Or pray that a miracle happens and somehow DA2 just magically starts working.
I think the first is a bit more likely ...

Not a problem Rob. No thanks or sorry required. You guys are working your asses off to get us playing. We should be thanking you instead of whining about not playing. But I digress.

I'd be happy to try those things if I knew how to do it, lol. Sorry, kind of a techtard about this. Could you explain how? Is this downloading that Microsoft WMI thing?

I'm getting this error:
Posted Image
"There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game."

I have reinstalled twice -- installation completes fine, with no apparent errors or warnings. The launcher runs fine, and I can open up the config program. But as soon as I press "Play" I get the above error. I have added the game directory and DRM directory as exceptions for my antivirus (Avast) and firewall, and have installed the beta, but my game still isn't working.

I am using Win7 Pro 64-bit SP1 / core i7 processor / nVidia GTX 260 (latest drivers -- updated yesterday)

Any help would be very much appreciated!

Regarding the Admin problem, I've had another user reporting success with the following:

"Hi, i'm running Vista x64. I tried your fix, but it didn't work. You were right, that it is a winmgmt problem as in computer properties i had unavailible information for cpu and memory.

In my case your fix didn't work because the winmgmt service was disabled. I ran msconfig and enabled it. Then started winmgmt from comand promt. Than It worked. Hope this will help others."
