I am also getting the "unable to run on a guest account" error despite being the admin on my win7 pc. It is clearly the EA drm check activation program which is crapping out.

 Okay
**Edit -- As a side note I have the Signature Edition

Problem: Game installed fine. After clicking play on the Launch screen, the release check supposedly finished, the screen went black for about 3~4 seconds and returned to the desktop

****SOLUTION (Windows 7 and probably vista)*******
1.) BETA UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! Either ATI or Nvidia. I have ati so im not 100% sure about nvidia, but if you do not have BETA 11.4 DA2 will not work!!!!! When installing the CCC (catalyst control center, turn off any virus programs and run in admin just in case, really shouldnt be a big deal)

1b)Make sure you have either DX 9, 10, 11

2.)Install game with virus protection off, and with an account that HAS ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES, "run as administrator" is not the same thing. Check if your account has the privileges. (Control Panel\\User Accounts and Family Safety\\User Accounts, --> if your account doesnt say administrator under it, make an account that does, or do the following to enable defualt admin accoun (if your account is admin goto 3):
Right Click on "My Computer"
-->"manage"
When the computer management screen comes up  click on "Local Users and Groups" in the left tab pane.
Click on "Users"
Right Click on "Administator"
Un-check (if it is checked) "Account is disabled"
Create a password (i think the defualt password is "admin")
Re-start
Log on as adminstrator

3.)Install DA2 (make sure virus protection is off, preferably UAC as well (User Account Controls), but not as critcal as turning off virus protection)
4.) Manually Add firewall exception( Even though the installer will do it)

5.) Re-start

6.)Log back on as administrator

7.)Make sure you have an active internet connection. (Release date check for some reason check some server on the web, instead of checking your pc clock???)

8.)Run Launcher (Click on cd drive, desktop icon, etc....)

9.)click "play"

---At this point for those who had errors with starting the game(as in it would not start at all) after an possibly succsesfull release date check, should be ok and good to go. Just complete the EA activation and youre golden

*****NOTE****** I CANT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE THE MOST RECENT VIDEO DRIVERS IS. It has gotten to the point where im almost sure that if you dont have the beta drivers (at least for ati) then DA2 will not launch no matter what DX version you have.

After fixing 8 of my friends issues that were exactly just like this, I felt it was time to throw this out here.

Hope this helps, good luck

Working on release date crash fix.....

Does your account have admin rights, and what are your system specs?

You know what's worse? Being Australian and paying $90 for a game that doesn't work.

I don't understand how the game could be shipped in this state.

I hope a fix comes ASAP.

Well, when I try to run the game from the launcher, absolutely nothing happens.

I got into the bin_ship folder and try to run the executable, and it says "This version of windows is not supported" etc. I'm running Windows Vista 64bit.

if I try to run the file as an admin, it says it can't find it.

AMD quad core phenom II
8GB RAM
Win 7 Ultimate x64
Radeon 5700 Series

All my patches are up to date.  I grabbed the preview drivers for the ATI card that have the DX11 enhancements for the game.  I used both my user account with admin rights as well as the built in admin account.  No luck on either.  I was getting the message about running the game on a guest account.

I can't belive this wasn't tested on a Win 7 x64 box.  My setup is pretty normal.

Is your version of windows legit? So it has a real serial key, and not a crack?

Your setup is very similiar to mine. One issue that I keep running into is do you have ATI beta driver 11.4 downloaded from here;

This is my previous post.  I have listed pretty much every bit of essential data in regards to the error message I receive and the computer in which I am using.  Any and all help would be very much appreciated.  Thanks a bunch in advance.

My game will not run. I install the game, I click launch, a white splash screen with the red blood dragon image comes up with an empty white "loading" box with a spinning dial like design and after some time the top of the image says "Error" and I receive a pop up which tells me I must uninstall and reinstall the game. I have done this twice now and no luck. I am on Windows 7 home premium edition. I am sole adminstrator. My computer is clean and up to date. I have registered all my products, and can not figure out why I can not launch the game. Please assist me!

ETA: I have ati and I updated that catalyst driver someone posted a few posts before me, and still no luck, still receiving the same error. I also have signature edition of dragon age 2, which seems to be the common trend in this thread. I am getting angry. :o:pinched:

I have tried so far...reinstalling, setting admin rights on exe. files (and other related files), turning off all firewalls/virus programs, and setting ports.

I am est U.S. time, and have a hard copy of the game from amazon.com. Comp specs also meet and exceed all min requirements.

I second this...

I got that exact error myself yesterday.  I figured I could get around that by using the exe in the bin_ship folder.

Yeah, I'd already tried that but it didn't work. After 12 hours, incorrect activation keys and a delayed launch, I've given up waiting.

Alright, I uninstalled the game, disabled my User Account Control and restarted my computer.

I turned off my anti-virus and installed the game.

Same issues again. When I hit play, nothing happens. When I try to run the .exe, it says my version of windows isn't supported.

these are my specs:
Geforce 8800 GTX
e6600 Quad Core 2.4ghz
4 gigs of ram
Windows Vista 64bit

I know my rig isn't the best out there, but it's reliable. This is the first time I've ever had an issue of this magnitude.
