Update on previous post above - I now seem to have it workingTamary wrote...
I keep getting the follwing problem:
I install the game from the DVD. The first time I run, the activation thing comes up, appears to do something and disappears (this happens pretty quickly so I can't really see what happens with it). Then I get the screen with the sort of red dragon splash on the RHS and the following message.
"We're sorry, an error has occured
There is a problem with your game's setup. Please reinstall your game"
I am running windows XP sp3. Have tried most things I can think of including installing and doing first run following clean boot with firewall (Zonealarm) and antivirus (AVG) disabled.
Anyone else with the same issues and (please please) a workaround?
This is driving me slightly nuts!
For anyone who has been having the same problem as me, I finally did a search for the damn activation program and found it in C:\\documents and settings\\username\\local settings\\temp\\mtka_tmp
This folder contained a load of files called things like DragonAge2-110311201049. Some were text files and some were executables. By looking at the file date stamps they matched up to all my attempts to install and activate. On a whim, I sent the whole damn lot to the recycle bin, and lo and behold, the game will now launch!!
I have no idea why this has worked! But I am now very happy and don't care...
Hope this helps someone!

* Early
reports suggested that this was due to an outdated version of the
Windows .NET Framework, but we no longer believe that to be the case.
Instead, we now believe it to be related to Admin accounts. Some users
are reporting that the issue is resolved by creating a new user with
Admin rights in the Users control panel, then logging under that account
to install and validate the game. After having done that, they were
able to log back into their regular account to play the game.
(I have tried this several times and I still cant get past this error)......Please help.

It's no wonder piracy is so rampant when it is impossible for many legitimate consumers to play the game.
I hear ya. I get "Dragon Age II has stopped working." Got beta drivers, reinstalled, disabled firewalls, reinstalled, reinstalled and still nothing. Its funny though because I had no problem at all with ME2, AvP, Starcraft 2 on high settings, even the god damn Dragon Age II demo worked fine, what can I say... At least when people download games illegally they are prepared for bugs, errors, crashes... but come on we have bought this game and still can't play it.
Intel® Core2 DUO T5750 2.00 GHz
4GB RAM
GeForce M8600 GT
Win7 64bit.
I'm with you, ChaosEpyon. I've done everything to no avail. I just can't fathom how a demo works fine, but the real game does not, even with everything installed fine.

It seems like there have been very few updates about the "Dragon Age Has Stopped Working" error. Only more people saying they have the problem.
I'm simply at a loss of what to do with this. I've had the game since Tuesday morning, and still nothing.
I know, I know. Every other problem is getting so much more attention, but it seems our problem is more obscure and is apparently back on Bioware's priority list. I feel your pain.

I am so very disappointed with Bioware.
After trying out the demo, and seeing that it seemed to run smoothly even on my laptop, I bought the game straight away. Today it arrived, and it was installed like 10 minutes after the Amazon package dropped in my mailbox.. And here you are, dear paying customer: "Dragon Age II has stopped working", BEX error etc etc..
I think I will fall back ot Magicka: it came out loaded with bugs, but at least it was rapidly patched and now it is a lot of fun =)
(I will not mention that Magicka is from an indie, while DA2 is from the best RPG developers on this planet, and that the former works while the later doesn't..)
Yep. I get the BEX error on the crash as well. I figured I'd quote all of you guys in a single post to draw more attention to the fact that people having this issue are still suffering.

So I have finally gotten my game to work. It turned out that everything wasn't started properly, something which I fixed in the msconfig.
Hope you other guys can get your games working...
Well... would help lots of people if you actually told us what you did :/
The only thing I did was setting "Startup selection" to "Normal Selection".
When you enter the msconfig, under General, there you have 3 options:
* Normal Selection
* Diagnostic Startup
* Selective Starttup
For me it was previously on Selective and all I did was changing it to Normal.
Don't know if it will help you but that what fixed it for me. (apart from trying everything else that had been suggested in this thread...)

Tried and failed, i'm at the point where doing a complete re-compile of the OS Kernel files and isolatings anything that cross flags the file. I have even tried to get the game to work on a stand-alone Iso computer with the same admin error...........
This could all be an ID10T error on EA's anti-piracy group.

Please explain a bit better - I have no appdata/temp on my Windows 7 x64, but I have an username\\Appdata\\Local\\temp - but yet I cannot find anything in that folder that would suggest there are some way of manually activating, or getting past this.
Thanks for any info.

Ok to get to that all you need to do is type %temp% in your search bar and go into the temp file and the location of the dragon age stuff is in the file called "mtka_temp" the activation is in there.
