Still having EV#52959 even after attempting the fixes listed in Rob's post.

Since there doesnt appear to even been any help to resolve this on Microsoft's site for Win7, at this point the only thing i think will fix this is a modified "activation" program that does rely on the WMI information before unlocking a valid game.

Which is frustrating.

I downloaded/upgraded the latest Bios for my Gigabyte motherboard and the game is now runnin'''
(my bad) -

The first thing is not to update the WMI or make that repository move -NO-,,, the first thing is to UPDATE Your BIOS

Same problem, same solution. I have a Gigabyte GA-X58A-UD3R (rev. 2.0) motherboard. After reading the sticky about System Properties not reporting the CPU and RAM I went in and checked mine and sure enough, I had that exact problem. I've just finished flashing my BIOS with the latest from Gigabyte and the System Properties is now reporting my CPU and RAM correctly!

I haven't tried running DAII yet because I'm backing up my drive (yeah, I know, AFTER flashing the BIOS!)... long, heart-wrenching story about my backup drive failing... completely non-related. So I'll report back a little later, hopefully with some good news.

I'd dearly love to know how this problem occurred in the first place, however!

Side-issue: Because I could play the game on my main PC (i7 930 with GeForce GTX 460), I installed in on the Home Theatre PC in the living room (much lower specs). It runs beautifully on that setup but I stupidly activated it and got my Black Emporium/Mabari War Hound. So now, when I get the main PC up and running, I've stuffed myself!

Let's all cut a little slack to the guys at Bioware. I'm sure they never anticipated these horrible issues. I know there are many disappointed DA fans out there, but their frustration and disappointment would be nothing compared to that of the Bioware folk, who I know are working frantically on this. Thanks guys, I've been playing it for several hours on my lesser rig and it rocks!

Still having problems with EV#52959 - Windows 7 32-bit. I went into Control Panel -> System and was still able to see my correct hardware components. I went through the steps to fix my repository anyway, just in case it would help, and there was no change.

Hi everyone - to help coordinate the clutter, I'm creating a series of official sticky threads covering major issues.

This is the official thread for any issues that are preventing you from LAUNCHING the game. If you're experiencing such an issue or have a solution to such an issue, please post and discuss it here.

Thanks!

UPDATE [March 11, 10:00pm MST]:
Thanks for your patience everyone. We released a BETA patch this afternoon that fixed a number of these release-control related issues as well as an issue where the game would ask for non-existent drives. Also, we have further updates and workarounds for a number of these issues. Hopefully this will get the bulk of you up and running in time for the weekend. If you are still affected, please continue to post and help each other out and we'll continue to make these blocking issues a priority.

The primary culprits for many of these issues remain out of date video drivers, interference from antivirus software, Windows administration rights, and errors within users' Windows setups. We're continuing to investigate these issues and are identifying fixes and workarounds wherever possible.

:D EV#52959 – Some are getting “The application will not run on a Windows guest account or an account with insufficient privileges” error, regardless of Admin status.

  • We have confirmed internally that this issue is not resolved by the BETA patch.
  • We believe this to be a result of WMI misconfiguration in a user's
system. You can see if this is the case if your Windows is unable to see
your system's hardware components (ie. processor, RAM, etc). You can
verify if you are in this situation by doing the following:

    WinXP:
    1) Right click on My Computer and click on Properties
    2)
Incorrect information will be displayed for your system's Processor and
potentially other hardware components in the bottom right

    Win7/Vista
    1) Go to the Control Panel
    2) Click on System.
    3) You should see something similar to this: http://i.imgur.com/HN86i.jpg

    If
this is what you're seeing, your WMI configuration has been corrupted.
As a result, Windows is unable to determine your Processor and other
hardware components and therefore DA2 is unable to determine your
    hardware components during activation.

To fix this, you will need to rebuild your WMI repository. I
want to stress that this fix is not for users who are not running as
Administrators. You must be logged in as an Administrator. In
addition, if you are at all uncomfortable with the process of touching
your system's WMI files, please wait for a more official fix.

    WinXP:
Download the WMI Diagnosis Utility from Microsoft's site and execute the VBS script within. http://www.microsoft...1E-4C64192AE97D

    Win7/Vista:
    1) Open a Command Prompt (Windows Key + R, then enter 'cmd')
    2) Within the command prompt, execute the following command: ' net stop winmgmt ' without quotations.
    3) Rename your Repository folder (%SystemRoot%System32WBEMRepository) just in case you wish to restore it.
    4) Within the command prompt, execute the following command: 'winmgmt /salvagerepository' without quotations.
    5) The above command will rebuild the repository if it is corrupted and then restart the WMI service.

After your WMI repository has been rebuilt, please try and activate DA2. If you're still seeing the same symptoms, it could be that you're running on an older BIOS that needs to be updated. We've also had user reports of having to enter "c:>net localgroup administrators NetworkService /ADD" in the command prompt as a final step. Another user reports that their winmgmt service was disabled. They were able to run msconfig and enable it, then start winmgmt from the command prompt, which finally fixed it for them.
:wizard: EV#52957 – Some are getting a “Dragon Age II has stopped working” error
  • Users have confirmed that this issue is not resolved by the BETA patch.
  • Some (but not all) users have been able to resolve this issue by installing the latest ATI or Nvidia beta drivers. For more
info about graphics drivers, see the DX11 thread -
    http://social.biowar...0/index/6420212
:wizard: EV#52973 – Some are getting a AWC.dll error
  • Early reports suggested that this was due to an outdated version of the Windows .NET Framework, but we no longer believe that to be the case. Instead, we now believe it to be related to Admin accounts. Some users are reporting that the issue is resolved by creating a new user with Admin rights in the Users control panel, then logging under that account to install and validate the game. After having done that, they were able to log back into their regular account to play the game.
:wizard: EV#53092 – Some are getting a black popup that disappears immediately.
  • We believe this is related to interference from anti-virus software.
Users are reporting that the issue resolves if you turn off all
anti-virus software as well as your Windows firewall and then reinstall.
:wizard: EV#53093 – Some are gettting partway through the release check progress bar, then crashing.
  • User reports suggest that this has to do with Administration privileges. Under Windows 7, you will need to run an elevated command prompt (basically run cmd.exe as administrator). Then you have to enable the hidden built-ina dministrator account for Windows 7 using the following command prompt: "C:windowssystem32>net user administrator active:yes"  ...Then log off of your account and log into the built-in administrator account where Dragon Age II should now run successfully. If you need more detailed instructions on the built in administrator go here - http://www.sevenforu...le-disable.html ...Windows Vista is essentially the same process - see http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555910
:wizard: EV#53094 – Some are failing silently after pressing Play.
  • User reports suggest this is resolved with the 1.01 BETA patch.
  • For Steam users unable to access the BETA patch, previous reports suggested that it might be tied to interference from AVG or other anti-virus software. Other reports suggest it might be related to graphics drivers.
 EV#53095 - Some are getting a "Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error

  • We have more reports of this but are still trying to identify the cause.
 EV#53198 - Some are getting a "The version of the file is not compatible with the version of windows your running" error
  • User reports suggest that it might be tied to interference from AVG or other anti-virus software. We're continuing to investigate.
:wizard: Some are successfully getting through release control but hitting the DX11 issues immediately upon launch. Some can’t access the launcher, however, and therefore can’t drop their settings down to DX9.

  • Definitely grab the latest ATI and Nvidia beta drivers, as described in the DX11 thread - http://social.biowar...0/index/6420212 ...Turn your settings down to DirectX9 if you can. If you can't run the launcher or config utility, there is a DX11 line in the DragonAge.ini file which you can set to UseDirectX11Renderer=0 - it doesn't exist until you run the game, however. Depending on when you're failing, you may not have an *.ini file

[*]I am still downloading the patch, does it address this issue? After the Release check and every time we click play (regardless of video settings?)

I'm getting the silent faliure after pressing play on through steam, so I bypassed steam to run the launcher and get an error saying I'm missing a .dll. Is anyone else getting the same result?

Another thing is that I can seem to run dxwebsteup, it gets about 3/4 of the way through then ballses up. I'm on a Vaio, if that affects the matter at all.

This is all very good but I have  a Nvidia NForce 4 motherboard and Windows 7. For some reason Nvidia haven't released Win7 drivers for this motherboard so I don;t have the manufacturer's software to flash the BIOS and I don't trust my skills enough to get it right without this, especially as I am loath to take such drastic measures when every other Bioware game from Mass Effect 2 back to Baldur's Gate runs fine.

Just adding my name to the list of people who have tried everything and are still getting the error

EV#52959 – Some are getting “The application will not run on a Windows guest account or an account with insufficient privileges” error, regardless of Admin status.

Control PanelSystem happily shows  my processor and RAM.
I've done all of the command prompt fixes suggested over the previous 19 pages and the other thread that preceded it.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the game multiple times.
I have switched off Windows Firewall, all antivirus software and User Account COntrol
I have enabled the 'secret' admin account and installed the game from there
I have installed to c:DA2 and left the default install path.
I have tried skipping the configuration screen and launching straight from the executable.
I have installed the beta patch

I am located in the UK and my game is retail, boxed and bought from Amazon.
My system is as follows:
Windows 7 home Premium
AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core 4200+ @2.20GHz
5GB RAM
Nvidia GEForce GTX 275
Driver version 8.17.12.5896 (windows 7 insists this version is up to date)
Realtek AC'97 Audio
Driver Version 60.1.6293

I am going to go play something else now. Bioware, it is half past 3 on Saturday afternoon here in the UK, I will be returning the game to Amazon on Monday morning UK time. You have until then to fix this issue or lose a sale, and my potential future custom for ME3 and SW:TOR.
I really failed to see any security holes in the DRM for Mass Effect 2 and Dragon Age which both run perfectly on my machine. Why did this have to be changed for Dragon Age 2? Also if it is the date authenticator causing this and the game has now been released in Europe, the need for the authenticator has disappeared, so you could always issue a patch to skip the step completely.

I'm off to turn all of my security settings back on now and go play something else. Hope the above information will help you fix this issue.

*EDIT* Just for completeness I have upgraded the Video drivers to the latest beta version from Nvidia. Unsurprisingly that did not rectify the issue. I draw the line at flashing the BIOS though. If you want me to do that to run your game I'll do without thank you.

Update: I have bitten the bullet and updated the BIOS to the latest version from the motherboard manufacturer's website. I then re-installed and this did NOT resolve the issue.

Bioware, while upgrading the BIOS is solving this for many users, I am not one of them. Please keep working on a resolution, preferably one that scales down the DRM to a less pointlessly invasive level. Do you really need to know things about my PC that even administrators do not? I question whether the infomation this DRM utility appears to be trying to gather counts as 'relavent' under the Data Protection Act.

This is exactly the situation I am in. However I have flashed the BIOS and the Windows Experience Index still does not work but the rest of the information on the system screen is fine.

http://i756.photobuc...eoff/system.jpg

My motherboard is an ECS NForce4M-A V3.0

The most up to Date BIOS for this on the ECS website is
BIOS ID: -N****804-6A61FE1EC-00
Build Date: 05/26/2008
Flash Type: PMC Pm49FL004T LPC/FWH

I must admit I have no idea what those numbers mean, they are just what comes up when I click View/BIOS Information in the WinFlash Utility I downloaded from the ECS website.

Oh and like the above poster, I have been playing computer games for 20+ years (27 for me) right back to typing in the code to play Asteroids on my BBC Micro. I also remember the days of DOS gaming, making boot disks with 530K+ of base memory, manually setting IRQs etc. and this is the first time ever a game has beaten me when run on an OS that is contemporary with it. The only other games I struggle to run in Win7 are from the DOS era.

I know, it does not make any sense to update the bios to play a game. But it did work for me. And every little piece of info that might solve it, is best shared between us.

Goodluck and I hope this gets resolved for all of us asap. And let this be a lesson to any Developer.

Ok, I created another admin account, and installed the game there. Still getting the now hated:

The mtka_temp folder has 2 .ini files.
lang_mtka.ini still says:

# ERRROR DIALOG
ERR_ACCESS_RIGHT_PROBLEM_TITLE=Error
ERR_ACCESS_RIGHT_PROBLEM=To complete the installation and activation you must have Administrator rights.\\nPlease log in as Administrator and restart this application.

I am the admin. Both of my accounts are admin accounts.

lang_dfa.ini tells me that I should have gotten some kind of dialogue after activation. I didn't get any kind of dialogue in my many tries. Not of success nor of failure. It flashes, the blue line shoots up, the little window disappears, and that's it.

I never saw this:

PROGRESS_TITLE_RC=Release Date Check
PROGRESS_INFO_RC=Please wait until the online release date check has completed.
ACTIVATION_SUCCESSFUL_LABEL_RC=The release date check was successfully completed. Please click FINISH to complete the process.

Nor any other message.

I don't want to start messing around with the BIOS. Heck, the only thing I know about it is that it stands for Basic Input - Output System. I read up a bit on it, and it scared the daylights out of me. I don't want to go messing around in it at all,
I do however, want to play the game I bought legitimately and paid a good chunk of money for.

o Dragon Age 2 EADM
o Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bit fully patched
o NVidia 8800GT

- Reinstalling the game does not help
- Updating NVidia drivers does not help - tried WHQL and BETA
- Running as Administrator does not help
- Installing beta patch does not help
- Deleting mtka_tmp does not help. Matroshka? Really? You can add the expletives yourselves.
- Chicken blood and incense does not help.

Well that's pretty much it - I'll give it a few more days before I demand a refund (or contest the CC charges, whichever EA prefers).
