Okay, I think I've figured out what my problem is! Unfortunately, FIXING it will be another story. Out of curiousity, I went and tried installing DA2 on my mom's computer, just to see if there were any differences. To my surprise, when it finished installing and went to the release date checker, a new window appeared that I had not seen pop up when installing on my computer. When I installed it on mine, the release date checker would get to 100 percent and then crash, saying "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working". Every subsequent attempt at booting up the game would go straight to the same error message, forever preventing me from getting to the final stage of the release date checker/activation thing. On my mom's computer, it was revealed to me that this window never even came up on my computer....

http://i34.photobuck...natorxx/act.png

So it seems the solution to this problem would be to disable the release date checker as a whole, or find some way to bypass it. In my attempt to solve the issue on my computer, I did what the thread recommended. I went and used the built-in administrator account and reinstalled it on there, but unfortunately, it still didn't work! The release date checker still crashes right after getting to 100 percent. So alas, I am in the same boat as before, but now I have discovered what it is that has been plaguing me thus far. I hope this will help someone figure out a solution, as I am hard at work at figuring it out as well.

EDIT: Also, I have installed the BETA patch and all drivers that are necessary. They have not helped resolve this issue.

I know I've posted this before, but does someone want to explain to me what BEX is? and what the hell MSVCR80.dll is?

BEX=Buffer overflow exception, BEX indicates a buffer overflow or DEP exception. In this case DragonAge2 executable crash down caused by MSVCR80.dll. It is dynamic library (Microsoft C Runtime Library and is required to run programs written using Microsoft Visual Studio 2005 / 2008). There is problem in this file (dragonage2.exe) on some system configurations. They must provide new executable in patch which will work correctly... I dont know when, because they must find what is causing this exception and why. I am waiting too for Patch.

Edit: I have the same problem as you have. I try install everything (C Runtime 2008 SP1, Beta patch, newest beta driver from Nvidia, Bios i have latest, ...) I hope that they patch the game in next few day...

Okay concerning the "dragon age II configuration utility has stopped working".

I just tried to launch the DA:O configuration tool and the same thing happens as it does with DA II and the DA II demo. The message"[...]stopped working" pops up.

I guess it has something to do with my system? Which is weird because I've installed the newest drivers, I've uninstalled AVG and deactivated my firewalls. Maybe it has something to do with Steam?

Bioware, in DA:O and the DA 2 demo you gave us the ability to launch the game directly, why do we need to go through the configuration screen to even launch the game? When the configuration tool crashes, we can't play the game and that produces a lot of sad pandas.

I just want to play the game by now:)

Do you have the problem as well with the dragon age origins configuration utility and the dragon age 2 demo configuration utility?

Haha, I've never seen that screen yet either, and I've installed this POS like 3 times already. Hard to tell tech support about something that I don't see if they don't ask me about it first. Does Bioware know that this is part of the problem?

Edit: Just reported this on my continuingly one-sided email conversation with EA Tech Support. Let's see if they ever get back to me, lol.

Maybe even with massive bugs in their program, they're still maintaining a weekday only, 9-5 workweek? Ah well, considering we're a tiny minority, and we've ALREADY PAID, our only choice is to wait patiently, in silence.<_<

Hm, the Mass Effect 2 configuration utility crashes as well. Is this a steam related issue?

Same error here too, although it has only happened twice in the 18 hours I've been playing (I've loaded the game over two dozen times in that period too).

Repeatedly loading the game after the error occurs produces the same message each time but a PC restart fixes it after I'm prompted to (again!) enter my email address and password; the account is verified and the game proceeds to load.

Seems to be a bug with the DRM at a guess as My Computer > System shows my system specs and the WMI Repositary is intact as it certainly doesn't break any other games, including others from EA that use online DRM such as Bulletstorm and Dead Space 2.

Windows 7 Service Pack 1 64-bit
UK retail boxed Signature Edition from GAME
Logged in as administrator (i.e. the hidden administrator account). Only account on system.

Lol. I'm in the same situation. I had a pretty mundane conversation with tech support too, with them just prescribing me the cookie-cutter fix-all solutions like deleting your temporary files, cancelling background tasts, reboot, etc. I updated my question on the DA2 support page with the same message I posted, so hopefully I'll be able to bypass this release-date DRM bullcrap.

same has any one found a anwser?

As I said above, the fix for me is restart the PC then re-run the game at which point I'm asked to enter my email address and password which I initially used to sign into the game. That then validates the account successfully then loads the game.

This is an annoying issue for sure but fortunately it hasn't happened very often for me which suggests a bug with SecuROM (or whatever the DRM is) or perhaps EA's validation servers rather than my system or the game itself.

Exactly my issue here.. Did not know about that screen either. I just saw the release date checker going to 100% and closing. The launcher works and the program won't run (manually or via the launcher). Even force ran the checker from %USERDIR%\\AppData\\Local\\Temp\\mtka_tmp\\dragonage2_activation.exe via the command prompt various times and ways.

Thanks to your post.. hopefully Bioware can get this fixed up for those of us holding a $60 DRM paper weight.

All this time I thought the release date checker worked fine and that it was the da2.exe that had the problem. I thought once it got to 100 percent, it was done. But apparently this whole time it has been crashing before I can even get to that screen, preventing me from ever being knowledgable of its existance. Now I know that it's the EA activation.exe in Dragon Age 2\\bin_ship\\core that won't run. It just does nothing when I click on it. All I need to do is run that so I can activate my game through this DRM hogwash, THAT way the dragonage2.exe will finally work.

It's so sad that we can just pirate the game in order to get around the anti-piracy issues preventing paying customers from playing.

I have eactly the same problem. (1) My release checker goes up to 80% then "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working" shows up. After that everytime I run the game, it goes straight to the error message.

However if I uninstall and install the game again, (1) repeats again.

I will tell you something very strange. Pirate crack eliminates that privileges problem. I DIDN`T USE IT AND I WILL NOT. But I heard from some guys from my country that game is working with it.

great <_<
anti-piracy politics in action.
maybe Bioware should ask for help from the pirates?

Indeed, it's realy sad, that people who have illegal copy of game is playing it, and those who have bought that game are still trying to launch it.
it's already passed 4 days.

we can only wait.
sadness.

When I start up DA2 I can get all the way to the end of the first part, right after the dwarf tells the fake story, and my game will try to auto save but can't. I can still play all the way through to the part where Flemeth agrees to help you, but the next area will not load (kirkwall). There is a constant circle spinning on the right side like it's trying to save, but can't. Then I take off auto save and try to manually save and it does the same thing. Does anyone know how to fix this? Thanks!

Oh, yeah. I also can not level up unless i select for them to automatically upgrade. When I try to select attributes it works. When I try to select my powers it won't let me press confirm or back so I have to press esc and just select for them to automatically level up.
