Whiney stuff and spoilers.

Wrong thread. This is for people who can't even play at all. Don't complain about your silly little problems to us. And please don't post spoilers.

I had the same problem, where it installed fine, but crashed upon hitting play. Going into "configuration" and changing the play setting from Direct X 11 to Direct X 9 resolved the issue. This is after manually running the DirectX installation, as well as the installation allowing it to run.

Okay, I think I've figured out what my problem is! Unfortunately, FIXING it will be another story. Out of curiousity, I went and tried installing DA2 on my mom's computer, just to see if there were any differences. To my surprise, when it finished installing and went to the release date checker, a new window appeared that I had not seen pop up when installing on my computer. When I installed it on mine, the release date checker would get to 100 percent and then crash, saying "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working". Every subsequent attempt at booting up the game would go straight to the same error message, forever preventing me from getting to the final stage of the release date checker/activation thing. On my mom's computer, it was revealed to me that this window never even came up on my computer....

http://i34.photobuck...natorxx/act.png

So it seems the solution to this problem would be to disable the release date checker as a whole, or find some way to bypass it. In my attempt to solve the issue on my computer, I did what the thread recommended. I went and used the built-in administrator account and reinstalled it on there, but unfortunately, it still didn't work! The release date checker still crashes right after getting to 100 percent. So alas, I am in the same boat as before, but now I have discovered what it is that has been plaguing me thus far. I hope this will help someone figure out a solution, as I am hard at work at figuring it out as well.

EDIT: Also, I have installed the BETA patch and all drivers that are necessary. They have not helped resolve this issue.

I have eactly the same problem. (1) My release checker goes up to 80% then "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working" shows up. After that everytime I run the game, it goes straight to the error message.

However if I uninstall and install the game again, (1) repeats again.

Finally. Not enough people around here with the same problem as me. I'm beginning to feel more and more left behind when everyone else's issues are getting resolved and I'm still left in the dust.

Oh yeah, include me in, because that's what happens to me as well. I'm now quite sure it's the activator or checker, or whatever that malware is called.

You see, I was playing some music, when a burst of optimism overcame me, and I clicked on the launcher. I forgot to exchange the music disc for the game disk, however, DA 2 didn't even get to any disk-check, it came up with the dreaded:

"Dragon Age 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close"

message right away. Unless the exe doesn't need to look for the disk. Which I doubt. If they use such intrusive and faulty security malware, I'm quite sure they won't ever get rid of the disk-check.

Edited to add:

That was the only time in my many tries (after trying to resolve the "needs to close" issue) that I forgot to put the game disk in. So please, telling me "you need the game disk in" is unnessesary. I know that, and the game disk was in all the other times.

So I kept getting the ''Dragon Age II has stopped working'' error. I tried almost everything that people suggested in this topic, but nothing worked. Okay, I'm about to share, what finally helped me and got me to Kirkwall (yay!), and no, it wasn't Flemeth. English isn't my main language (and I'm definitely not a computer genious), so explaining all these fancy computer terms might be hard, but bear with me :P
My driver is NVIDIA GeForce GT 130, if that is relevant (also I've got Vista). Anyway, all I had to do was to go into the Device Manager section, right click the NVIDIA, upgrade, let the upgrade run and ta-da, Dragon Age is working!
Now I just feel stupid for not doing that as the first thing when I realized the game isn't working.

Same stupid "Insufficient privileges.
Used the stupid vista "secret administrator account" Failed.
Uninstalled and reinstalled on Vista "Secret Admin Account" Failed.
Uninstalled and reinstalled 3 more times. Failed.
Uninstalled and reinstalled using a different directory (dragon instead of dragon age 2) Failed.
Used forum work around on this thread by Bioware. Failed.
Updated Bios. Failed
Updated Video Card drivers. Failed.
Contacted EA technical support, told me to reinstall, did. Failed.
Contacted EA technical support again, told me "I need to elevate this to a higher level wait 24-48 hours.
Contacted EA phone support to demand refund. Pending.
Seriously, what the hell Bioware, this is idiotic, I might as well have not purchased your game at all if its going to fail to work. Maybe the next time one of your employees buy a car they'll tell you "Sorry, we somehow missed that your entire bloody engine and drive shaft were unusable, we'll get back to you eventually since we've already got your money."

Oh my God that worked for me. Why did Bioware put that as the default setting? Thanks man you save me from a big headache.

I think most people who get the silent treatment when pressing play, are actually failing the activation test. It just goes to 100% then closes. Quote me if i'm wrong. I have tried most things like a lot of people have. We need an activation fix at least now as the game is out in all regions. Ty :)

Regarding EV#52959 - the "guest account" trouble, the following solution worked for me (WinXP):
WMI - Misconfiguration repaired and re-registered:

1.) Press START - RUN, type CMD
2.) Within the Command Prompt type: net stop winmgmt
3.) Using Windows Explorer, navigate to: c:\\windows\\system32\\wbem\\repository
4.) Delete everything that's IN the repository directory (= FS Directory and $Winmgmt.cfg)
5.) REBOOT your computer
6.) Press START - RUN, type CMD
7.) Within the Command Prompt type:
winmgmt /clearadap     (Enter)
winmgmt /kill                  (Enter)
winmgmt /unregserver  (Enter)
winmgmt /regserver      (Enter)
winmgmt /resyncperf   (Enter)
Exit

---------------------------
After that I could activate the game and start playing.
I hope it helps others too :)

OK I have fixed the WMI misconfiguration problem, sort of.
Updated the BIOS. Boot into Windows 7 (64) and System Properties reports RAM and Processor correctly.
All good.
Start DAII. Works beautifully.
Quit DAII and check System Properties. No RAM or Processor info. Can't start DAII again until I reboot.

DAII MUST BE STOPPING WMI.

It's not your WMI settings, it's the game itself.
The game works fine once you get past the admin stuff, they need to pull drm out.

I'd almost put money on the log in error being caused by the SecuROM DRM as I've only encountered it twice and both times the fix for me was simply to restart my PC, run the game then re-enter my BioWare Network email address and password (again!), which validates successfully and then finally loads the game and allows me to play it.

Exactly. I have EV#52957 crash on my PC and demo version works like a charm. There are also reports that cracked version is working without any problems. Only difference I can see between those two and legal version is built-in SecuROM DRM check.

You know what's funny?

I've finished the game and there still isn't a patch for the "guest account" error.

I'm glad I didn't wait. My heart goes out to those who have. :/

Lol. What a tease.
Damn it, if nothing is up by tonight I am gonna go pull some illegal crap off the net and at least get a decent gaming time until EA/Bioware solves their stupid admin ****.
