If you have just done "my solution" try this now:
START - RUN - type CMD
Within Prompt command type: net user administrator /active:yes
Then try to start the game.
If this doesn't work either, repeat 1.) - 7.) (after setting administrator active)

OK guys, here again:

Regarding EV#52959 - the "guest account" trouble, the following solution worked for me (WinXP):
WMI - Misconfiguration repaired and re-registered:

1.) Press START - RUN, type CMD
2.) Within the Command Prompt type: net stop winmgmt
3.) Using Windows Explorer, navigate to: c:\\windows\\system32\\wbem\\repository
4.) Delete everything that's IN the repository directory (= FS Directory and $Winmgmt.cfg)
5.) REBOOT your computer
6.) Press START - RUN, type CMD
7.) Within the Command Prompt type:
winmgmt /clearadap     (Enter)
winmgmt /kill                  (Enter)
winmgmt /unregserver  (Enter)
winmgmt /regserver      (Enter)
winmgmt /resyncperf   (Enter)
Exit
---------------------------
After that I could activate the game and start playing.

If this alone doesn't help:

Okay, I think I've figured out what my problem is! Unfortunately, FIXING it will be another story. Out of curiousity, I went and tried installing DA2 on my mom's computer, just to see if there were any differences. To my surprise, when it finished installing and went to the release date checker, a new window appeared that I had not seen pop up when installing on my computer. When I installed it on mine, the release date checker would get to 100 percent and then crash, saying "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working". Every subsequent attempt at booting up the game would go straight to the same error message, forever preventing me from getting to the final stage of the release date checker/activation thing. On my mom's computer, it was revealed to me that this window never even came up on my computer....

http://i34.photobuck...natorxx/act.png

So it seems the solution to this problem would be to disable the release date checker as a whole, or find some way to bypass it. In my attempt to solve the issue on my computer, I did what the thread recommended. I went and used the built-in administrator account and reinstalled it on there, but unfortunately, it still didn't work! The release date checker still crashes right after getting to 100 percent. So alas, I am in the same boat as before, but now I have discovered what it is that has been plaguing me thus far. I hope this will help someone figure out a solution, as I am hard at work at figuring it out as well.

EDIT: Also, I have installed the BETA patch and all drivers that are necessary. They have not helped resolve this issue.

I have eactly the same problem. (1) My release checker goes up to 80% then "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working" shows up. After that everytime I run the game, it goes straight to the error message.

However if I uninstall and install the game again, (1) repeats again.

Finally. Not enough people around here with the same problem as me. I'm beginning to feel more and more left behind when everyone else's issues are getting resolved and I'm still left in the dust.

Oh yeah, include me in, because that's what happens to me as well. I'm now quite sure it's the activator or checker, or whatever that malware is called.

You see, I was playing some music, when a burst of optimism overcame me, and I clicked on the launcher. I forgot to exchange the music disc for the game disk, however, DA 2 didn't even get to any disk-check, it came up with the dreaded:

"Dragon Age 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close"

message right away. Unless the exe doesn't need to look for the disk. Which I doubt. If they use such intrusive and faulty security malware, I'm quite sure they won't ever get rid of the disk-check.

Edited to add:

That was the only time in my many tries (after trying to resolve the "needs to close" issue) that I forgot to put the game disk in. So please, telling me "you need the game disk in" is unnessesary. I know that, and the game disk was in all the other times.

Exactly the same. I didn't even know that there should have been another popup oO

I can't get this to work, i'm in the "administrator" user, i use "net stop winmgmt" and it stops but when i try to delete the files in repository it says the files are in use by "application experience" and can't be deleted. I found the "application experience" service (with ctrl+alt+del) but it's already stopped. I have windows 7 64-bit.

Well I gotta admit...if the pirates can fix these issues in a few days...yet Bioware seems to struggle getting any patches up for us so we can play the damned game..I think its clear games companies need to start hiring pirates..

On topic wise....tried that work around above and still no joy...though I'm loving my £25 tea coaster ^.^

I agree, bit expensive but stylish =) and at least more useful than game which does not work.
And yes tried everything and I am tired of unofficial solutions "change that command here, hax something there"

Interesting thing, that the only really working thing is downloading a crack. Customers get their asses kicked and illegitimate downloaders are already playing with no disfunction at all.

Nice one -.-

So anything new in relation to the whole Release Date Checker problem?
