Tried this and the FS Dir wont delete says one of the files is being used.  I dont know how but thats what it says.  Tried it anyway and it did not work.

As I said, I used a program called unlocker for getting permission to delete these files in the repository directory. The unlocker program can be found here:
http://www.softpedia.../Unlocker.shtml

1. Install unlocker
2. select all in the repository dir
3. right click and select unlocker
4. and apply to all files (I think there were 6 files in use by the svchost process)
4. then you should be able to delete these files
5. reboot and follow Myra's advices

Hope this helps and good luck...

Seriously BioWare ? No fix yet ? This forum changed into bunch of people desperately trying to help others to just play the god damn game they've paid for. Although I respect users such as Myra2405 for their effort, still these solutions doesn't seem to be working for everyone. And no, the first page of the thread does not fix half of the problems.It came to the point where people have to crack the game to actually play it. Big failure, if its going to be the same with ME 3 and The Old Republic, then I think I'll pass.

Think so, yes. Have you just tried, what Rob Bartel from Bioware wrote about it , for Windows 7 ??

Thing you need to realize is not everyone system is the same. There is no way bioware could possibly test all the combination of components out there and programs installed on said system. They can try to minimize the effect, but some bugs never come out until the release. If everyones system was the same no one would have these issues.

Yes, and still somehow DA2 is the only game that causes problems on my computer. What is more, I understand bugs and I know they don't come out until the release, that's fine, every game contains some minor or major bugs. However.... Not being able to complete a quest is a bug, but not-being-able-to-actually-start-the-game is not a bug; it is a sign of game not being tested properly before official release.

Tried fixing the repository, even though windows shows my hardware correctly.  Predictably it didn't help, even with the configuration bug (which I had in DA Origins also).  Had the game installed since the 8th, never seen the opening credits.  A question I wouldn't mind Bioware answering: why does the error message about administrator rights even exist?  What do you care what kind of account the game is running on?

Hi All,

like most on here i have purchased the game and for some reason or another it will not launch. i was able to install it, put my cd key in, then have it do its little release check over the net. then nothing. no error just a straight up crash and burn. now whenever i hit Play it just goes back to my main windows screen.

I have talked to the reps and they said it was a graphics driver issue so i downloaded the newest driver (ATI HD5800 series), nothing. Then they said i have to get rid of DX11 and put DX9c back on (first of all im not sure i can even find where DX11 is as its not in my list of programs to uninstall). Then they said it was because i did not have administration rights, even though my user account says im an administrator. None of these things have worked which is leading me to think its not my PC but the game itself..

Does anybody know how to fix this yet?

The dx9/11 settings are in the da2 configuration settings from the launch menu change from dx11(if avalible ) to dx9 works for some folks, as for administration rights problem no one seems to have a clue.

Ok, I created another admin account, and installed the game there. Still getting the now hated:

Dragon Age 2 has encountered a problem and needs to close

The mtka_temp folder has 2 .ini files.
lang_mtka.ini still says:

[DEFAULT]
LANGUAGE=0x09
LANGUAGE_SUBIDS=0x01,0x02,0x03,0x04,0x05,0x06,0x07,0x08,0x09,0x0a,0x0b,0x0c,0x0d

# ERRROR DIALOG
ERR_ACCESS_RIGHT_PROBLEM_TITLE=Error
ERR_ACCESS_RIGHT_PROBLEM=To complete the installation and activation you must have Administrator rights.nPlease log in as Administrator and restart this application.

I am the admin. Both of my accounts are admin accounts.

lang_dfa.ini tells me that I should have gotten some kind of dialogue after activation. I didn't get any kind of dialogue in my many tries. Not of success nor of failure. It flashes, the blue line shoots up, the little window disappears, and that's it.

I never saw this:

PROGRESS_TITLE_RC=Release Date Check
PROGRESS_INFO_RC=Please wait until the online release date check has completed.
ACTIVATION_SUCCESSFUL_LABEL_RC=The release date check was successfully completed. Please click FINISH to complete the process.

Nor any other message.

I don't want to start messing around with the BIOS. Heck, the only thing I know about it is that it stands for Basic Input - Output System. I read up a bit on it, and it scared the daylights out of me. I don't want to go messing around in it at all,
I do however, want to play the game I bought legitimately and paid a good chunk of money for.

Yeah, I know, I'm quoting myself. Just trying to make sure that the issue

EV#53095 - Some are getting a "Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error

We have more reports of this but are still trying to identify the cause.[/list]
doesn't get forgotten. It seems the cause is identified. It's a DRM snafu. Some of us get different messages, but the root seems to be that the SECUROM (which has a bad rep anyways) simply doesn't recognize me as the admin of my computer. I am the admin. I always was the admin. My User Account tells me I'm the admin.

I sincerely hope that this protection garbage doesn't do anything else and FURBARs my computer all on its own.

All other games are working without me risking to turn my computer into a useless piece of furniture. I'm not at all computer savy, and going into DOS scares the heck out of me.

I am grateful to Myra, Dancing Diva, and all the others who take their time and give advice, but like others here have said, I paid 55 Euros for this game and shouldn't have to jump through flaming hoops to get it to work.

Because EA has a bug up its asparagus about pirates. Who seem to have had no problems cracking this game wide open already. The illegal players are enjoying the game. The legit customers are hung out to dry.

There is something very wrong with this picture, don't you agree EA/Bioware?

I have now tried reinstalling the game 3 times with and without AVG and Windows Firewall disabled and still nothing. The release date checker goes to 100% and nothing, no error message just shuts down. I don't get the pop-up that I saw someone else report.

When I hit play in the launcher i get a DragonAge2.exe process in the task manager but this shuts down after a few seconds. Have successfully changed the settings in the game setup and I have updated my graphics driver.

Have tried the beta patch as well and still no joy. Bought the game in the EAStore so refund is out of the question.

Anyone having the same problem or any suggestions to what I might try?

Have you tried to manually install directX from DA2 installation disc? I had some errors for missing dll files (something about d3d... etc) but it was fixed when I made manual installation of directX.

I speak to a lot of gamers and we were all excited about the launch of Dragon Age 2. I was the first to purchase it. Even purchased what DLC there was and it doesnt work. Im not a computer techie but i do expect things to at least work. Reading these forums and hearing that everyone else has been having the same issues as i and still no update/patch in order for the game, we spent money on, to work. I will be trying to figure out if a refund is available and when asked "So? How's Dragon Age 2?" as i undoubtedly will be asked, my reply will be "Dont bother, it doesnt work. Hows Rift instead?"
