Had been stuck with the "guest account" error--up and running now following a bios update to F11 on my gigabyte board. Really was quite simple to do, just needed a thumb drive and maybe 2 minutes. Have heard it's similarly easy with asus boards. So, if you're stuck with that error on launch, and you haven't updated the bios recently (or ever), don't be scared to try that option :)

Gigabyte hasn't released a BIOS update for my board in a number of months, now.  Hell, the last one was a beta.  DA2 remains the only software that has ever had trouble detecting my hardware.  The configuration utility has no problem with it, though.  This whole mess is absurd.

I figure I'll give them until the end of the week and then I'll find my own means of fixing the trouble.  My pirating roommate has had no problems playing the game...

Sorry to hear you're still not having much luck, Seifz. My bios is several months old as well, actually--but I hadn't updated it since installing my rev1.0 p55m-ud4 ;-) Figure a lot of folks are probably in the same boat, original bios never caused them trouble with anything but this game('s drm). So, if a little encouraging post nudges someone to a solution, my day's made eh?
Hope they get a patch out that works for you soon! (Or something makes it work for ya anyway.)

Yeah crack works nicely. I posted in here saying so a few days back but a mod deleted it. :(

That's because it's against the Terms of Service of the forum to encourage cracking. EA can terminate your account for doing so if they want. I'm guessing Bioware's mods are going easy on us by just deleting posts considering we've paid for our games and still can't play them via the original .exe.

Yeah I get that, but if they fixed the problem we wouldn't have to. It's obviously the exe launching.

"A required security module can not be activated.
This program can not be executed (13001)."

So what can I do with that?

OK. I'm going to have to be carefull with my words here. I DO NOT endorse downloading a crack to fix DA2, even though those lovely pirates seem to have done such a good job of fixing the problems. But if I was thinking about downloading the crack WHICH I'M NOT what are the risks? Would it create any problems when downloading DLC?

Waiting for a fix and getting impatient. Tried a crack and it works (deleted it, because i don't recommend or partitcipate in piracy). Could it be, that all those issues really just be resolved by changing this whole DRM-thing?

Of course. Still haven't heard anything from Bioware for the last few days though, so I assume they're just going to leave us hanging here, as if this was our fault.

Gotta love the ridiculously over protective copy protection on the game when there are already tons of people out there who have cracked it and are playing it while the people who actually PAY for it cant...

Anyone can point where's that ILLEGAL crack that may allow playing while this is being officially fixed?

Now just may some of the Bioware folk come here and tell me that "illegal cracks are not allowed". Damn it, people who are posting here to ask for a solution have paid for the game, and just can't play it. THIS IS ILLEGAL, having received money for a useless product.

BTW, I run in with:
Windows XP SP3 fully updated
Intel Dual Core 4300 - 1,8 GHz
2 GB RAM DDR3
nVIDIA 9600GT 512 MB updated to latest drivers

This is precisely why DRM is terrible and should be avoided at all costs.  It's more than a week now and I still can't play my legit copy of DA2 because of a failure in the DRM scheme they chose.  That's absolutely not acceptable and no amount of "we're trying" is going to fix it.

BTW, my problem is:
- Installing ok.
- Click PLAY at Launcher and first cheking ok 100%. Then: "Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and needs to close. Send Microsoft this problem... Send problem - Don't send"

This is .....ing annoying. One week with legit game and no play at all.

This is silly now, I've had the game for a few hours shy of a week now and I still haven't started up my game.I appreciate it may be difficult to fix the issue, but some sort of confirmation from Bioware that something is being would be nice,
I'm genuinely regretting this purchase now as I'm currently £25 down, having got nothing in return.

In all honesty, I've been considering actually downloading a pirated copy, since I've bought a license to run and play the game.
I probably won't because it just fuels companies using stupidly heavy DRM, which ends up ruining it for people like us.

The DRM is such crap anyway... it just made more motivated hackers.

Just installed the game, again, and it seems to be stuck in some limbo of having reached 100%, giving me the option to play on EA Download Manager, but it hasn't been installed. Every time I press play, a window comes up saying 'launching Dragon Age 2' then it disappears, minimizes EA Download Manager, and nothing happens.
Since it hasn't been installed, I can't uninstall it, but neither can I get rid of it to try again, anyone that can help me?

I have to agree with everyone, why the hell are all the pirates happily finishing off Dragon Age 2, when all the people who actually support and PAY are still sitting banging their heads against a wall? I figuired out how to fix one problem only for it to be replaced by another before I can even test if the solution works for my previous problem!

EDIT!
The 'play' button is on EA DM, so I guess it's frozen? Tried reinstalling but it didn't work. I'm actually thinking of trying to install the game on another computer, but that is so messed up since THERE IS NOTHING WRONG WITH MINE!
If it doesn't get fixed soon, I want a refund. Oh wait, they don't do REFUNDS! <_<

The only reason I haven't is because I'm worried that all my DLC won't work with an unofficial copy of the game.  Otherwise, I have no moral qualms with playing a "pirated" copy of a game that I legally purchased.
