Hello, Thank you for contacting Steam Support. Patches for third party games can only be distributed through Steam once the following two actions have occurred:
(1) The Publisher has provided us with the necessary files
(2) The Publisher has given us permission to release the update
The latest patches will be released as soon as possible, and will be downloaded automatically when available. If you have questions about the availability of a specific patch, please contact the support department for the game in question. Your patience is appreciated, please let us know if you have any other questions.
So I guess that Bioware has been silent in Steam's directions aswell???
BAH! I hate this. Sorry BIOWARE, but you just lost my support.
Chron.

The only reason I haven't is because I'm worried that all my DLC won't work with an unofficial copy of the game. Otherwise, I have no moral qualms with playing a "pirated" copy of a game that I legally purchased.
Your DLC wont work no...as you need to be logged in generally or the account needs to be activated sort of stuff..
You should be able to play it..just at the very basic level offline mode. Untill Bioware wake up and give us some info or patches atleast. At the point now were I may just give up waiting and go play sometthing entirely different and ignore bioware games for abit.

Well, that's no good. No sense playing without all the DLC that I'm entitled to and then restarting when they finally fix the problem. This sucks.

Well my case is probably related to bios, for some reason when i click play it says the program has stopped working; one thing I noticed in the report it says that my system is a windows NT 5.0, when is a windows xp (WTF), I never had problems with other games, also even the updated version of my bios is pertty old which may be causing the problem here.
You should never have to update your BIOS to play a game. EA's terrible DRM software is at fault here and they need to fix it. While it's possible that updating your BIOS might fix the problem, it's unlikely and doing so is risky and might void your warranty if you bought your PC from a major retailer such as HP or Dell.
Anyway, NT 5.0 is the kernel that Windows XP uses. Don't worry about that.

All other games work well, I even disabled the firewall (both router and software) to no avail.

Yeah that's a point. Forgot I had the signature edition.
I suppose that's it then, we're going to have to wait for an official fix, which at this rate, doesn't look like it's coming at all

Willing to bet that most of the pirated software is of Signature Editions honestly. Why crack an inferior product?
I haven't made it past the guest account error, but I'm willing to bet that there is no difference between the SE DVD and the normal DVD. I think we need to download the bonus content after registering the extra key to our accounts.
Anyway, all I've found so far are some DVD clones. The crack I've heard mentioned here isn't available where I thought it might be, but I'm sure it's still around. Still, it doesn't solve the DLC problem yet. Here's hoping that BioWare figures it out before the pirates do so that I can use the legit copy that I purchased.
The simple solution, of course, is patching out the ****ty DRM.
EDIT: Well, nevermind that. Looks like there's already cracks for all the DLC, including the pre-order items and signature edition content. Oh, well. Guess I'll give BioWare until the weekend and then see about just fixing the problem myself.

I'm going to do that as well. This is just stupid. No status reports or anything in many days now from Bioware.

I am one of those who had to read:
Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and has to close"
I can't believe that I had to resort to this. I am a legitimate customer, with a legitimate key, with a legitimete disk, and a legitimate sales receipt. Yet, the only way I can play is through means that this terrible malware of a DRM is failing to cicumventet. There is nothing wrong with my computer. Nothing at all. 10 mb of a download makes the game play beautifully. My PC is fine, my graphic card is fine, my audio is fine, everything is fine.
The fault lies not in the computers, it is the malware SECUROM that is causing this.
No, I didn't download the pirate game. I don't have to. I bought a copy legitimately. But the only way I can play it is with the help of the very people EA/Bioware tried thwart, and failed, miserably.
Shame on you, I am never going to trust you again. Never.
Edit to add: DLC will not show up. However, I don't have any DLC. Except the "Black Emporium". I really don't care about that. Mostly because there is no way I'll ever buy anything from EA/Bioware again. I'll put a wreath down next to the graves of Maxis, Westwood, etc. I am mourning.

Anyways, .. I read in many post that there is no possibility of refund. What about EA store return policy, is there no such thing?
If not, Bioware, hello! I would like a +20 fire dmg sword against Darkspawn as compensation for this gruesome delay. (With a pink hilt. No, I'm not kidding, I'm feeling pretty peeved about this delay and feeling I'm due something special as compensation.). I selected to buy DAII instead of Civ5 and now find myself without any game to play in the evening to relax after hectic long stressful day. I could be steamrolling over Russia or some other ex communist regime right now. And I'm poor and all as well after buying the game (hmmm ..although the game was at 40% discount) but I got 2 kids so I'm still poor! The upcoming official patch better have some super sword....you can name it .."The DRM slayer".
Honestly, just think about it.

BTW, my problem is:
- Installing ok.
- Click PLAY at Launcher and first cheking ok 100%. Then: "Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and needs to close. Send Microsoft this problem... Send problem - Don't send"
This is .....ing annoying. One week with legit game and no play at all.
same problem here, really annoying. i dont even know if a crack would fix it, but i dont even want to go there.

thats a SOLUTION which will perhaps cost you 1 min of your life xD
so it seems a lot of frustrated ppl are turning their backs on you BW/EA...and i can understand them.
the worst thing right now is not the long time it takes to get rid of our problems...i know you are not just working for US alone and you may got a lot of other work/projects to do...BUT we are given the feeling of beeing abandoned right now
and the only logical possibility for not answering since last weekend might be that your company has its seat in east japan (yeah shame on me...i should better get my ass there and help some ppl...instead of trying to get my computer game started ~.~ )
*packs bags...waves* see ya in a few days...hopefully with a fix before the topic hits 50 pages^^

This image is haunting me!
I am the admin account for this computer.
I am in the UK.
I have the Bioware Signature Edition.
This was bought from Game.co.uk as a hard copy.
I run Win7 64bit.
This is all sounding rather familiar...
What the flip is going on? I've been chatting to a live support person over on the EA website, who suggested I create a new admin account on this computer and try running the game there, once again this popped up.
Bioware, I love you! Why are you doing this to me?
I've searched all these forums, the solution given at http://social.biowar...42590/1#6442590 for this message is no good to me, but got my hopes up right until the point:
3) You should see something similar to this: http://i.imgur.com/HN86i.jpg
Which I don't see. I see everything normal.
Everything seems normal! The game installed with no error, registered fine...
But I can't play it. And seems like many, many other people are in this same position.
And all my mates who have been playing it (be it on console, or luckier PCs) are nagging me, telling me how good it is!
I know pleas will get nowhere, but seriously... so many people having this issue, what went wrong?
How do I make it better?
;o;
EDIT: So I spoke to a couple of people on the EA website support. Second one reccomended following the steps detailed at the start of this thread, linking me to it, even though I do not have the conditions in step 3.
So I get to it, I 'Download the WMI Diagnosis Utility from Microsoft's site and execute the VBS script within', but it doesn't work.
Get the message:
(Main) : Unsupported OS version or build #.
What's going on here, can anybody advise? I suspect in may be something to do with the fact I am, as recently discovered, running a counterfeit version of Win7 (don't trust eBay, what can I say)
I don't want to procede with the latter steps as I don't fully understand them, and am wary of breaking things if I haven't really completed the first!
Could somebody maybe guide me through those steps in more simpletons terms? Or somebody from Bioware give word on when this 'more official fix' will be coming about? I really, really want to play this game =/

The workaround for me is that I just run the: "net stop winmgmt" in the command prompt before i launch the game. When the service stops, i launch the game and get in.
It always asks me to reactivate the game everytime I launch AND I have to fix my video settings everytime, but I've been able to play this way.
When I'm done playing i start the service back up. Not the most secure method, but at least I can play until they resolve this.
And just in case anyone is interested, I'm running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit

Software piratism is like shoplifting...it ups the price of the product and makes companies invest time and effort in trying to prevent it and ultimately the cost of this is transferred to the customers. If you use products that come from piratism you support this cycle and no longer have a moral ground to stand on when complaining about the DRM issues as you are now the part of the process of why it's here to begin with.
No, it's not. When you steal something from a store, the merchant is out the cost of that item in addition to a potential sale. When you pirate software, the merchant is only out a potential sale. You are copying something, not taking something. That's an important difference.
Regardless, we already paid for the damn game. Hell, I ordered mine back in October. Now I can't play my legitimate copy while my pirating friends can play their copies? That's crap. This is precisely why DRM is a terrible idea and I fully intent to bypass any and all DRM in the future. If BioWare pulls this same stunt with ME3, you better believe I won't be purchasing it. The free version works better.

Don't want to risk changing such things until I'm sure I know what I'm doing!
