As Bioware appears to be having trouble, here's a radical suggestion for them: pirate the pirates.  Take the crack, sanitize if of any malware, roll it into a patch with some cosmetic other features and don't mention that it bypasses the DRM.  Nobody who's still waiting is going to distribute pirate copies as a result (or we'd be playing the damn game already) and there'll be one less problem to fix.

Oh, and wherever EA has their customer support, they clearly don't read your actual queries - I've had two responses telling me to do something I've already told them I've done.

I'm pretty sure that the lack of response has more to do with the EA higher-ups preventing them from doing something like the pirates did: completely eliminate the date release checker. This problem results from EA's attempt to wipe out piracy and was crowbarred in, probably at the last moment. I have high expectations for bioware, so I adamantly believe that they had no choice and weren't given an opportunity to test THIS specific aspect of the game.

In conclusion: F*ck you EA. I give you guys until the weekend, then I find alternative means to play a game that I already bought.

Any hints on how to resolve this one? I've reinstalled about 5 times now, without virus scanners or firewalls running, installed as Administrator, have latest beta ATI drivers, and I have applied the beta DA2 1.01 patch with no effect.
Running on Win7 x64,
4GB RAM, Intel 3.2GHz Quad-Core
ATI 5970

Like most everyone else, my system far exceeds the specs required for this game, and this is the only game on my system, out of about 100, that doesn't work.

You're telling me, I'm giving them until monday and if I can't get past this launcher keeps reloading problem I'll start working and funding people who can get those DLCs to work on the pirated copies so I never have to deal with EAioware games ever again officially. If the product doesn't even play you are a thieves simple as that, either fix it or start paying me interest on the $70 loan you have.

EV#53095 - Some are getting a "Dragon Age II has encountered a problem and needs
to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience." error

--------

This. And the answer is easy: DRM.
Install goes fine, nothing wrong with the computer, but after pressing play the release date check goes to 75% and then it pops up. After that it just pops up every time after pressing play.

It´s a sad day. Had to check to be sure, but the problem is easily passed by underhanded methods. I´ve bought a legit copy and registered it, intended to buy some DLC´s, too, in addition to those entitled to my account. Don´t want to play it aside of testing by these methods, but the fact stands: the only way to make the game launch right now is to use 2 mins of your time by doing the dirty thing.

Not urging anyone to do it, hells, I want to play the legit version myself with all the DLC and stuff, but it really makes one wonder; if it´s that easy to bypass, why is it there in the first place? And why it´s so bloody hard to have an official way to make the game actually work?

This whole mess is very disheartening.

The Play button is mocking me... I know that the game is just one click away, yet that click isn't working...

Am I truly the only one that the work around for the AWC.dll error is not work. I have tried wiping everything several time, updated all drivers, have tried making a new admin account and installing it from there, downloaded the newest adobe air, installed the newest net framwork. All things that EA and Bioware have told me to try and NONE of these work for me. I get no feedback from other players or Bioware........Someone please help.

I keep checking in from time to time. It plays at 1024x600 (or so) on my laptop and not on my desktop. What gets me soo irked is they could allow a prompt line fix of "-f" for force execution beyond the fail point. Hurry up. This delay encourages us to find alternate operations!!! I want my high resolution gaming EA!

We can't tell you on this forum because it's against the ToS.  I'm sure that you know how to Google, though.  It even works with the DLC and patch 1.01 beta now.

I'm not sure if I should just reinstall (which I'm about to try), but the 1.01 patch that was just released does not fix the "Dragon Age has stopped working" issue after clicking play. I will try again with a fresh install of everything... but I'm sad.

Same error after fresh install. I've checked everything over many many times. This is utterly ridiculous and depressing.

EV#52957 – Some are getting a “Dragon Age II has stopped working” error

yes i do get it. patch applied and i still get it.
the interesting part i only get it when i try to start in dx11 mode. BUT when i start it in dx11 in windows mode it doesnt crash. it starts and looks fine.
it doesnt matter what changes i do to the grafic settings. same on every detail lvl /resolution.
dx11 in fullscreen ---> application stopped working
dx9 fullscreen and dx11 windowed work fine. good fps and so on. 50+

i have eah 4870x2 2gb 10.1 rdy
vista 64 premium s2 updated
phenom II 3.2 ghz quadcore.
k8n-e deluxe motherboard
8gb kingston ram 1333hz

i have the newest ati driver, all windows updates inclusive platform ones and .net 4.0

since it seems to be a fullscreen problem i played around with settings without any result tough.

atidxx32.dll is the faulting module.
now when i google for this i get all kind of old gamer forums who have atidxx32.dll crashes.
the interesting part is, its mostly crysis forums. from ppl who crashed on startup trying to play crysis in dx10
that was back then with the ati 8.9 drivers and then new drivers fixed the problem. back in 2008^^

so i guess i will have to wait on new drivers-.- or what do you think? the 4870 worked bad in many games until special patches for it came out so it would not surprise me ;/

http://forum.1cpubli...read.php?t=6711
the interesting part for me is he has the same grafic card. he had the problem on vista. back then older drivers worked. tried it didnt help. gonna try to place it into the folder manually now...

So tell me, how does THAT helping you to fight with pirates?

c'mon, Bioware genius, I believe in you
i'm about to play in DAO right now, and i hope that when i finally end it, there will be a patch, that will fix all of this sh*t.

So im guessing there is no fix yet? i have talked to 2 different customer support people who both have told me at least 3 different reasons each why my computer is at fault for not being able to launch the game. cmon Bioware, fix the problem or at least acknowledge there was a problem with the game and update us on whats happening.

Everyone realizes this is a technical SELF help forum right? Bioware can't come in here & comment on all your problems.

I've been having the same problems with DRM as everyone & I'm ticked.

EA you violated a court order by packaging your DRM into DAII & then NOT informing us in the EULA/TOS. You do realize that don't you?

I've been a loyal Bioware customer since KOTOR & that may end because you put glorified malware & install it onto my computer.

I understand you want to cut piracy down, but what EA did here only increases & encourages piracy! There has to be a better way. One that actually SERVES your customer while protecting your intellectual property.

It's been over a week now & all EA keeps telling me is that "A fix is coming"... Did you guys even bother to do any QA testing on this before the game went gold?

That would be a lot more reasonable to say if their tech support wasn't useless. I've been through three rounds already with no results and the exact same instructions. Its obvious both Bioware and EA have no freaking idea how to fix this or that they're unwilling to just get rid of the DRM that is currently only preventing paying customers from playing.

That's the standard EA tech stanza: It's your computer you dumb paying customer, because it can't possibly be our     software/malware!

In my case it certainly isn't . My computer is fine. Works like a charm. No need to mess with BIOS, VMIDiag, or anything else. They had us jump through hoops, when in reality it's their malware that's stopping the game from launching. How do I know? Well, let's just say that the pirates came out on top once again. And no, I didn't download a pirated game. No need. You see, I own a legit copy of it. I just couldn't play it until I was forced into measures that I never, ever thought I needed to turn to.

It is utter and complete failure on the manufacturers/contributers side. I'm glad I didn't do all this BIOS flashing, VMI-messing and in the process turn my computer into a rock. Because it never was the fault of my machine.

Azimaith, I've been talking to EA since Wed morning of last week (3/9/11) and they still haven't fixed the DRM problem blocking thousands of PC consumers from playing the game.

It's frustrating & ridiculous, but you can't come onto the "Self Help" forum & actually expect Bioware to respond to very much.

Part of the problem is this:
Bioware designed the game
EA provides the Tech Support
Sony provides the DRM

So if there is any problem you have to work with three organizations in order to find & solve the problem.

This is a similar nightmare to what occurred with Dead Space 2 & other games using Sony's Securom DRM.

I don´t get it. It´s day 7 since release in germany and nothing changed. new patch 1.01 doesnt help. still "stopped working" crap. Why do you guys still hold on to this DRM-bull? The game is already cracked as everybody can read in this and other DA2 related forums, and the only ones who cant play are the loyal costumers that dont consider using a crack as a alternative and payed a lot of money for this, in my POV useless piece of software (because I´m not able to start the game)!!! So remove that DRM. ist´s useless. Im pretty sure that this DRM ist not keeping one pirate away from playing the game without paying for it, and so many people just like me, cant play even they payed a lot of money for it.

So at this moment the DRM it´s failing its purpose:
--->pirates=playing; laughing butts off, because of the idiots who bought the game and are not able to play
--->honest costumers=writing posts in forums, knowing that this wont change anything...oh and...not playing

Maybe you guys ( I dont know if its bioware's fault or ea's, honestly I don't care) won't change anything in this issue, or maybe you'll need 2-4 more weeks (maybe sometime it get's quite enough so nothing needs to be done anymore; or "we have other more impotant issues to care about now! we are very sorry for the last few costumers, but if you buy ME 3 you'll get a free bonus helmet, but only if you pre-order, of course")to fix this problem, but you should consider that normaly bioware games are trusted and people buy it without considering that something may go wrong. But this will change if this goes on like this and the next time (see ME3) people will not blindly buy your games. And honestly: in this moment I would not, too. And I would not recomend any bioware/ea game to a friend.

I thought this game was about "yeah man! you push a button and something awesome happens!"
I push a button and only thing happening is an error :pinched:
awesome!

Already tried a crack.exe and game works perfectly.
Can't Bioware turn that pirate patch into "official" and pack it into a download? Damn it...
