Allrighty, I was having the issue where you hit play and nothing. After doing something apparently fatal to my system trying to make it work, I have used a system restore and black magic to get the game to work.
The steps I took went something like this (sorry, little drunk from failure rage, and then more from success celebration)
*downloaded beta drivers from Nvidia
*in a fit of rage, completely uninstalling AVG free
*windows security alert began to taunt me that I might be at risk, so to spite it I turned off Windows Firewall as well.
*after that I went into msconfig, turned off all start-up programs and did a clean boot
*only after the computer booted back did I install Dragon Age 2
*instead of installing it to c/program files/Dragon Age 2 as is the default I installed it into G\\program files\\Dragon2
*after that installed, I went into configuration and smashed everything back to minimum, turned off all online options and wept bitter tears at the heartbreak that is human hope.
*after waking up naked in the backyard I went into the Dragon age to files, into bin_ship and used the executable there
that kicked me to a prompt looking for the release time, then asking me to register, and then the game itself loaded. Better yet, it lets me save.
I'll try to look back later and see if that helped or was in any way coherent.
