I'm starting to think that since not everyone is having these sorts of serious issues (myself included, thankfully) it might not be the game or patches but the hardware (in some cases) or other software such as the OS etc. Just a thought. In saying that it might be the patch that having conflicts with other hardware or software setups etc.

The problem with "unable to launch" is more sinister then it seems. After about two weeks without a resolution from EA support I purchased a second 300GB drive and Window 7 32bit edition and created a dual boot system - dragon age 2 and everything else... but even that hasn't solved the issue... it does seem to indicate a deep hardware problem, perhaps with the pentium D processor against the EA DRM... Now ~$300 to play this game. My wife isn't happy - this may indeed be my last EA game.

EA won't fix the DRM issues. Assuming that EA is aware of the fact that their DRM software stops paying customers from playing their game, they will also be aware that the majority of their customers are able to access the game just fine.
To EA it’s a question of balance; potential lost revenue and bad PR relating to one of their games versus the cost of fixing the problem.
I think those of us suffering from the DRM issues are not numerous enough and our problems not reported in the press enough to have a serious impact.
Since the DRM seems to be such a serious problem the sensible option would seem to be to just get rid of it. However, it’s likely that EA would prefer to aggravate a small number of their customers than to abandon a tool which they feel protects their product from piracy.
In our case the cost of fixing our problem is greater for EA than the risk that they might lose our business in future, or that the gaming press carries a story on this issue.
I really hope I’m talking out of my a**e on this one. Please could someone make me look a fool by pointing out how wrong I am. I know it takes time to put any kind of patch together and I’m sure that Bioware have a perfectly reasonable reason for their silence.

It doesn't protect their product from jack crap. The DRM was hacked before the game officially launched- allowing pirates to play it before paying customers. Many many of those players with DRM issues have simply downloaded the cracked versions of the game (which have DLC & bonus items)...
DRM does diddly squat to actually protect games from piracy- Hackers merely view DRM as a challenge & race each other to see who can crack it first. EA should stop wasting our time & find ways to encourage consumers to purchase their game legally- DRM doesn't encourage it discourages. It t's off loyal customers who *want to play the game legally*

I know! I totally agree with you. Right now I'm only able to play the game I handed over my cash for if I use a pirated version. I've never used a pirated game in my life! I don't want to start now (i'm a sucker).
Trouble is I don't think EA agrees with you, I think they're going to be sticking with their DRM and screw the odd customer who gets unlucky.
Tomorrow I'm going into battle with Amazon's returns department. Wish me luck.
