Just to keep it fresh out there - the "Error initializing PhysX" problem is still out there. While I suspected as much, the 1.01 patch (which didn't seem to address it in the brief release notes) did not alleviate the problem.

Demo Support thread (more detailed) on this issue: http://social.biowar...50178/8#6682773

Just keeping it out there. Thanks!

I'm starting to think that since not everyone is having these sorts of serious issues (myself included, thankfully) it might not be the game or patches but the hardware (in some cases) or other software such as the OS etc. Just a thought. In saying that it might be the patch that having conflicts with other hardware or software setups etc.

The problem with "unable to launch" is more sinister then it seems. After about two weeks without a resolution from EA support I purchased a second 300GB drive and Window 7 32bit edition and created a dual boot system - dragon age 2 and everything else... but even that hasn't solved the issue... it does seem to indicate a deep hardware problem, perhaps with the pentium D processor against the EA DRM... Now ~$300 to play this game. My wife isn't happy - this may indeed be my last EA game.

Not true :) My DA2 crashes after launching and patch is not helping. Demo works like a charm and there are confirmed reports that cracked versions also works on my hardware/system configuration. So in that case there is a problem with buggy DragonAge2.exe file (DRM highly suspected).

The problem with the "guest account" error is 100% in the EA DRM.  I've run hundreds of other programs on this machine, dozens of which wanted my hardware specs, and none of them had this prolem.  Further, my hardware and OS exceed the minimum and recommended specs.  Finally, the game itself works just fine if you bypass the DRM with a crack.

Thus, it's EA's fault.  Period.

i just want to let you know im having the same problem and picked up my reserved game from best buy 3-9-11 and it is now the 21st and still get the dragonage.exe has stopped working as soon as i click play from launcher. i have vista, cpu is intel pentium 4 3.00 1 core 2 logical processors, 2 gb ddr2 sdram, have over 2 terrabytes of hard drive space and it only calls for 7 gb (just to let you know upgrading your hard drive spave does nothing but give you more room for data and programs it does not help performance), and my video card is nvidia GeForce 9800 GT OC (OC which means it is overclocked our of the bos to deliver better performance over standard models) with 1 gb gddr3, of course my realtek sound card is directx 9.0c compatible.  so i meet or exceed all standards and have been doing everthing me or what ea thinks i should do to get it to work and has not changed at all.  I dont think it is a hardware problem at all if you meet or exceed system requirements and microsoft who i have also talked to says it is ea but if you or anyone finds a solution that works for my problem please let me know ; )

So. Tried a cracked.exe (I definitely don't support piracy) and it works. Definitely NO hardware or software issue. The only thing that isn't working, is the whole DRM ****. Since I can even play on High Resolution on my laptop now (I read, that laptops aren't supported...) i suggest that BioWare should do something about SecuROM, because that's the whole problem...

It's not SecuROM. That was patched out with v1.01. The problem we're having is with EA's DRM.

So, I've gotten past most of the problems already reported. The game launches and as I get to the menu, it wants to log me into my EA account. On the first letter I type in, I get "Dragon Age 2 stopped working". Feeling a bit scammed and a whole lot disappointed. GG EA.

Comp specs.
OS: Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit
Motherboard: XFX Nforce 680 Sli
CPU: Intel Q6600
Ram: 6Gb
GFX: NVidia GTX 460 SOC, 1Gb
Driver: 267.24 Beta (Version: 8.17.12.6724)

I am still getting the error dragon age 2 has stopped working after talking to level 1 support and them saying that everything is up to date on my rig, then getting an email from level 2 support with a list of things to try, and after that they told me to post on here so the dev's could see how many people are having this problem. We're now 2 weeks out from release date, luckily i got my game a few day's ago or by now i might be nerd-raging if i got it on release. i just hope they learn from this DRM issue (or so it seems to be) and don't make the same mistake later on.

I am still getting the "guest account" problem no response from EA games , have tried drivers , new administrator account , loading without firewall , patching. Im at a loss have never been unable to get a game to even the intro before!!!. I know my PC is ok as I buy lots of games and Shogun 2 etc are all ok this is the only thing I cant get to work at all
Totally shocked that nothing is being done and I have basically been duped out of £30 for something that doesnt work. Does anyone have a solution that doesnt rely on piracy.

EA won't fix the DRM issues. Assuming that EA is aware of the fact that their DRM software stops paying customers from playing their game, they will also be aware that the majority of their customers are able to access the game just fine.

To EA it’s a question of balance; potential lost revenue and bad PR relating to one of their games versus the cost of fixing the problem.

I think those of us suffering from the DRM issues are not numerous enough and our problems not reported in the press enough to have a serious impact.

Since the DRM seems to be such a serious problem the sensible option would seem to be to just get rid of it. However, it’s likely that EA would prefer to aggravate a small number of their customers than to abandon a tool which they feel protects their product from piracy.

In our case the cost of fixing our problem is greater for EA than the risk that they might lose our business in future, or that the gaming press carries a story on this issue.

I really hope I’m talking out of my a**e on this one. Please could someone make me look a fool by pointing out how wrong I am. I know it takes time to put any kind of patch together and I’m sure that Bioware have a perfectly reasonable reason for their silence.

i don't see why EA does not send those of us with the "admin error" orginating from its DRM a patch that will fix the error, or a method to allow us to point where their DRM is failing, as this will allow them to fix the problem that may have come up due someone not checking the coding form a new programmer that has caused this problem......Image IPB

It doesn't protect their product from jack crap. The DRM was hacked before the game officially launched- allowing pirates to play it before paying customers. Many many of those players with DRM issues have simply downloaded the cracked versions of the game (which have DLC & bonus items)...

DRM does diddly squat to actually protect games from piracy- Hackers merely view DRM as a challenge & race each other to see who can crack it first. EA should stop wasting our time & find ways to encourage consumers to purchase their game legally- DRM doesn't encourage it discourages. It t's off loyal customers who *want to play the game legally*

I know! I totally agree with you. Right now  I'm only able to play the game I handed over my cash for if I use a pirated version. I've never used a pirated game in my life! I don't want to start now (i'm a sucker).

Trouble is I don't think EA agrees with you, I think they're going to be sticking with their DRM and screw the odd customer who gets unlucky.

Tomorrow I'm going into battle with Amazon's returns department. Wish me luck.

May the Force be with you :) :bandit:

It's really stupid. Steam is basically one giant DRM, but it *works* (imo) its user friendly, you don't *have* to b e online 100% of the time.... They're protecting their games *by being gamer friendly*... I'm not buying retail versions of games ever again. (Bioware/EA allowed Steam to handle DAIIs DRM which is why Steam users had 0 DRM issues on launch day)

Has anyone had the admin error from the steam version?  By the two week anniversary I am considering ditching my direct2drive signature edition (whether or not they'll refund) and getting a version that will work.

@ Magor

I'm not playing a pirated game. I'm playing the game I bought and paid for, including the DLC that was bundled with that said game. I installed it, and couldn't play it, patches and all. This bought and paid for game is installed on my machine, and now it works. I'd rather have a different work-around, but I'll not have the game sitting on a shelf being useless. I paid a lot of money for it, and I have the sales receipt to prove it.

There is one file in the (bought and paid for) game that prevented me from playing. I got that fixed, and now can play. Logged in, with the purchased DLC (came with game) and nothing else. I'm not interested in pirated games, or pirated DLC. I never before even looked at the pirate scene, I was more or less forced to do that by a pirate prevention program that's worth squat. Ironic, isn't it?

I couldn't believe my eyes, let me tell you. To see what's out there, stolen and for the taking, blew me away. I wasn't tempted to get anything, heck, I wouldn't know how to run a pirated game on my machine, and I'm not interested to even learn how do so.

If I see a game I like, I buy it. That's who I am, I believe firmly in paying for what I use/wear/eat/etc. But looking around in the priate scene made one thing very clear to me: DRM's/copy protections are useless and worthless. The only thing they present is an open challenge to the hackers and crackers. And it seems they are on the winning side.

FYI, I'm one of the people with the "Dragon Age 2 has encountered a problem, and needs to close" upon launch.

I am totally out of resources... brought two DA2, install one without any problem; but the other one I am still not able to launch the game at all! Similar config on hardware, both running on WinXP SP3. Had followed up on almost all the options listed in this forum! Done the v1.01 patch... latest video drivers, install/uninstall... now what??

Always get error message while running "Config". If launch DA2 direct, it will get error message as well. Activation also didn't work. This is really frustrating...
