The only news is that you pretty much have to be a pirate to play now.

Well, it's been two weeks since launch, and still no fix for the admin issue. I want to believe that Bioware is working on a patch, and since it seems that EA's DRM is the problem, that would take some back-and-forth communication, which takes time. I could understand this, even if I would like faster progress.

But without any word from Bioware, no acknowledgement that they still consider this an issue and are working on a way for us to play the game legitimately, I fear that we have been thrown under the bus. Which is a shame, because I believe that Bioware takes a lot of pride in their projects and would like for us to be able to see the fruits of their labor. For them to buckle to pressure from EA telling them not to touch their entirely ineffectual and malfunctioning DRM (if that is in fact the situation preventing any updates), well, that is just inexcusable and disheartening.

If you still read this forum, Bioware devs, please stop in and let us know if there is anything being done to address our issue, even if it is just one sentence. The active posters in this thread can't be the only users affected by this problem. I would like to continue to buy and enjoy your games.

The old Bioware wouldn't do this to us :/

But yes, I can't do anything but wait because I'm not downloading anything illegal.

EV#53094 – Some are failing silently after pressing Play.
User reports suggest this is resolved with the 1.01 BETA patch.

For
Steam users unable to access the BETA patch, previous reports suggested
that it might be tied to interference from AVG or other anti-virus
software. Other reports suggest it might be related to graphics drivers.

[/list]As a Steam user, I have downloaded the game through Steam. The Steam community has still not heard anything from neither EA or BioWare (whichever, they are the same people say).
I just now called EA support - just for fun (call from Europe to US...) - and they had no date for me, no info about the problem, other than the general support crap that we had dealt with time and time again.

I have a whole lot of games - and ALL of them are working as expected - DA2 is the only one that has a problem.
Had I not known my way around a computer  - and known how to do all these things that has been suggested - what then?

I just hoping that we can expect something news like... This forum has not been updated by any official messages either.

I'm not sure how many of you know about this, but there's a workaround the "Dragon-Age-II-has-stopped-working as soon as you hit Play" thing. That crash is DRM related.

Apparently, EA's crappy DRM conflicts with some pieces of hardware/software and make you unable to launch the game even though your computer can run it. I found the solution to be... well, crack the game. Yes, that does feel wrong and I DON'T like that solution, but it's not really pirating since I actually paid for the game. Just install the game normally via EA Download Manager, then apply a crack to the bin_ship folder in your DA2 directory. After that the game worked like a charm for me since cracks skip the DRM thing when launching the game (for obvious reasons), thus skipping the crash.

This should be useful for you who can't wait to play the game until EA actually works on this bug. This could be also useful to help EA diagnose what exactly is wrong with their game, in case they care.

On another note, it's outright hilarious and outraging that paying customers have to pirate a game they own to be able to play it. Good job, EA.

This is my error.. I have windows xp it is a cracked version. I have
tried everything that people have suggested here so far, and still
nothing. My brother has the game, but he didn't have this problem. We do
run under the same wireless network, could it have something to do with
that?

I spent $80 for this game so I wouldn't have to use my
brothers computer to play, and so I wouldn't have to stop playing when
he wanted it back. But this is just annoying now lol

I noticed the Steam version was updated with the first patch, it just didn't do squat for the silent fail.

Two weeks in I'm starting to loose faith. Not just in Bioware, in computers generally. I swear, the things hate me. Imma go read a book.

I actually have done just that. The severe depression of waiting two weeks from release and still not being able to play has driven me to read more. Serious problem here people!

Is anyone else nerd raging about waiting so long to play something you can physically hold in your hands? I understand they are working on a fix, and I won't fault them for the time it takes to do it properly. Bioware certainly has had plenty of complaints about it being broken to begin with, no need to complain about the time for a proper fix. Yet it is still very depressing waiting this long, with very minimal updates :(.

EA/Bioware not the same people. Bioware doesn't have its own in house tech support team- that all goes through EA.

Patch 1.01 is out of beta so you can download (Via Steam) the full patch. Not sure if that will solve all of your issues but it will help.

Bioware is almost definitely working on another patch as we speak... But that takes time.

Just picked it up today (I no longer purchase PC games until at least one patch is out). System is MacPro 1,1 running XP sp3 in bootcamp. 10gb ram (only 2 availble to XP grrrrrrrr...), 10k raptor, sapphire new edition 4890. Windows bit used solely for games, and is trim and clean. No craplets, no malware. All other games work not only perfectly but exceedingly well (and usually with maxed settings). DA2, however, immediately spit-up the "administration account" error and refused to boot. I spent 2 hours performing various suggestions here and elsewhere. No luck. I then did one of the other things suggested in this thread and *bam* it worked like a charm. You've got busted DRM here guys, and it's your job to fix it. Every time I buy a game and have problems with it because of the DRM it reduces the chance that I'll buy a game in the future. If you are going to include DRM, then make sure it does what it is supposed to do instead of torturing legit owners. It's inexcusable. Either make it work properly or don't use it...

I think most of us have probably resorted to alternative methods to access a game we payed for at this point. I don't see anything wrong with it since they are being so slack about any form of response other then blaming us. The version I am running is just a work around the exe, I only have access to content I legally own already so no guilt at all from me.

Oh, I agree. I don't feel guilty at all. I paid for the game, after all. They have my money, but I didn't get the working merchandise. Merchandise I couldn't even return, so it was either: be swindled by the distributor, or take alternate routes to get what I paid for.

Their tech dept. had nothing better to do than telling me it was

a) me, the dumb customer
B) my inadequate machine
c) all my fault somehow or other

They suggest BIOS flashing, WMIdiag, driver updates (that one is understandable though), this site (ironic, ain't it?), and all kinds of other computer stuff I know squad about. I bought the game, and it should work by being popped into the drive. Period.
After all that yammering about how I'm too stupid, and my machine too inadequate, it took me all of 30 mins to find alternate means.

The game plays like a charm. There is something on my computer the DRM takes exception to, and it simply blocks the legit game from launching. There is nothing illegit on my computer, nothing at all. The stupid and useless DRM shouldn't even be allowed to snoop around my computer. It should see the game, it's legitimacy, and let it launch. What the heck is it doing waltzing around my machine? It has no business there, and wasn't even invited in by me.

Thank you, Bioware. Thank you for AGAIN doing the exact same thing you did with Mass Effect 1 and Mass Effect 2 (you somehow managed to get DAO right) - thank you for forcing me to play a pirate release of a game I bought.

It's great knowing our continued support and willingness to pay for the exact same care the pirates are getting from you (that is, none) isn't changing anything.

And yes, I will continue to buy your games, but I will feel like an idiot doing so.

*raises hand*

And I've finished the game once, and have almost finished a second playthrough. :P

Still back-and-forthing with EA's customer service, who keep telling me to do stuff in this thread, despite me telling them I already have. They really are clueless.

According to my knowledge, the game has not been updated by Steam yet, and I got that confirmed through Steam techs - they are missing info from EA/Bioware - as far as I know - but, it might have changed the last few days.

Anyways - if it is updated - it did not do anything.
I still press play - and nothing happens......

He/she is using the alternative method: "Another .exe file" as hundreds of people here without official assistance
from game developer/distributor. There is no another solution (except new patch, which does not exist) for us...

BioWare is EA.  Of course BioWare doesn't have its own tech support team.  BioWare is a game design studio.  A different team handles tech support.  They're all part of EA.  BioWare is EA.

Patch 1.01 is out of beta so you can download (Via Steam) the full patch. Not sure if that will solve all of your issues but it will help.

Does nothing to address the "guest account" issue, but I guess that's not an issue with the Steam version anyway since the Steam version doesn't use EA's ****ty DRM.

Bioware is almost definitely working on another patch as we speak... But that takes time.

Pirates fixed the DRM problems before the game was even released.  You're saying that BioWare can't do it in two weeks?  Laughable.
