No there has been no fix other than downloading a crack.

Which is what most people have done, after almost a month of waiting.

Steam user here, mine stopped working at the first load screen early this last week, (it wouldnt load past the screen where you have to hit the play button to start it). After reading some of the comments about running it as an adminstrator, i found something odd in that my dragonage2 exe file was setup to run as an administrator.  I went into into the dragon age ii directory folder, then into the bin_ship folder, and checked the properties on the DragonAge2.exe.  I found that under the compatibility tab, the run as an administrator was checked.  I unchecked it, and it started working again.

Hope that helps.:o

That was a good idea Buggy, but their was no run as an administrator in my version of dragonage2.exe

It is funny but I have tried so many different ideas on how to get the game running since dragon age 2 was release 2 weeks ago that I corrupted windows xp and had to do a fresh install only to have the game still not work.  <_<  If you are wondering if I meet the minimum requirements for the game to run...  well I do meet and exceed them which just makes this situation even more frustrating

My dragon age 2 game doesn't see that I have a dedicated ultra high speed internet connection which has allowed me to play any online game in real time.  It has decided that I am off line and will not see that I have already registered my game and as a result I can not even play the game without  being connected to the bioware/EA servers.  :crying:

It is funny but in the old days... ok a couple of years ago it was not a requirement to be connected to the developers servers for a non-MMO game.  I know it is nice to not be required to have the DVD in your computer to play the game but if we go back 10+ years you didn't need the DVD or CD in the drive to play the game either.  It just seems to me that the more security that the developers put into their games to prevent people from stealing them the more bugs and problems players have playing them.

I guess until the developer fixes this issue or tells me what I can do to fix it to play the game I will just have too much time on my hands and will either complain more about not being able to play this game or find another game to play...  does anyone know of a cool game that actually runs? :P

Nothing official yet? almost three weeks since release and nothing? It's getting kind of sad around here...and quiet. Seems that a lot of costumers are now trying the "alternative" way...it still would be nice to hear something from ea or bioware for all the people round here that won't try any other alternatives than play their game the way that's meant to be because they paid for it...(don't wanna offend anyone, I just want my game to work without using something that everybody can use to play it without buying the game. That's not the idea behind "buying games"! Plus: No DLC work, at least as far as I now)
Something like that never(!!!) happend to me!I Never bought a game that I couldn't play at least with the first patch...that's sad...the people who screwed up this, screwed up big time....

There is a vcredist.exe or something like that in one of the directories on the disc...try executing it and try the game again

@chi0080
some vid cards don't work well with DX11... sometimes its other programming/coding issues with DX11. Its always a good idea to try games at a lower DX setting if they aren't working properly. (Along with all the other fixes, drivers, firewalls/antivirus blocking the game/screwing it up, etc etc etc) Its just something quick to try & really easy to switch back (to DX11) if that doesn't seem to work.

I am also unable to launch the game but not for any of the reasons that are listed in the initial post.
I get the message
There is a problem with your game's setup. Please re-install your game.

Which doesn't fix if I re-install, or do a clean boot and then re-install or anything.
I have Windows Vista x64 SP2
NVidia GeForce GTX285 (1GB)
4GB RAM

I am really at loss and seriously considering asking for a refund from EA or Bioware.

Now I know the thing is out to ****** me off. It says I'm missing d3dcompiler_43.dll, so I root around in the game files and there it is, a file of that exact name, two versions of it in fact, sitting in the dragon age file.

I have absolutely no idea what I'm doing wrong. ME2 ran like a dream and I got that through steam too.

I saw something like this when I tried to get the game working, I was able to fix this missing d3d... error by installing DirectX manually from the game disc (DriveLetter:\\DirectX\\DXSETUP).

Hope it helps.

You know whats sad. Bioware could easily fix several of these problems by using a cracked version of their own exe. And it wouldn't even be out of sync with what several of the largest game developing corporations in the world have done.

Rockstar & Ubisoft have both used illegally hacked versions of their software to make porting games to the PC easier & cheaper.

Link here at PC Gamer showing twp large instances (Rockstar & Ubi with Rainbow Six Vegas 2) & one small instance in which two major dev companies used hacked code to make porting/shipping their games easier/more effective

http://www.pcgamer.c...igital-edition/

I still can't play the version of the game I legally paid for. I've been told (4 times now) that EA Senior Support staff would contact me personally and have yet to hear from them. I've been contacting EA support frequently since launch & gotten nowhere.

Dear Bioware, download a cracked version of you're game. Figure out why it works & then apply it to a patch so we can play the damn game already.

The helpful people at EA have provided these responses so far.

Response #1

Hi,

Thank you for contacting EA Online Support. I apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

If you are getting the error (“The application will not run on a Windows guest account or an account with insufficient privileges”) then make sure that you are logged in Administrative Account as guest account is not having all the privilege for installation of the game. Login as Administrator and then install the game.

If you are unable to get it working with the Administrative account or you are not sure about  Admin Account then you have to follow the below given instruction which  will help you for installation of game.

•Go to Game Setup Folder
•Right Click on Setup.exe file
•Select Run As Option
•Click on Run As Administrator
•Enter Password if it prompts for same.

If there is anything else, we may assist you with, please contact us  again. For any further questions or concern, you may visit our extensive knowledge base online at http://support.ea.com.

Thank you,

Andre

Response #2 when I reminded them, per my first post, I already WAS the Administrator so this process did not help:

Hello Fellow Gamer,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts Customer Support regarding Dragon Age II. I do apologize for any delay in my response. I have been assigned to your issue and would be happy to assist you in this matter. As a gamer myself, I understand how frustrating this issue can be.

This issue has been addressed with the first Beta Patch that has been released for the game.

Please review the following social bioware forum post for more information on what's been patched with the Beta Patch:
http://social.biowar...0/index/6442590

If you need further assistance please reply to this e-mail or contact us at the number below. Also a good link for some additional troubleshooting steps can be found at www.support.ea.com.

Best Regards,
Gabe F.
Electronic Arts Customer Support.

Response #3, when I pointed out that the thread they referenced actually stated the patch DOES NOT fix the admin/guest account issue and perhaps they should read the fine print themselves before directing people to it:

Hello Fellow Gamer,

Thank you for contacting EA Support regarding your issue. As a gamer myself, I completely understand your frustration, and I will do everything I can to assist you further.

1. Right-click on the "Command Prompt" under Start > All Programs > Accessories
2. Select "Run as Administrator:
3. A black box should appear. Type in "net user administrator /active:yes" (minus the quotes)
4. Press the enter key. It then should say "The command completed successfully"
5. Close out of the command prompt and log out of the current user account
6. There should now be a new user named "Administrator"; click on it to log in.
7. Try running the game
8. To disable the account do steps 1-4, but for step 3, type in "net user administrator /active:no" (minus the quotes)

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game in the future, please visit our web site and review our extensive Self Help Knowledge base (http://support.ea.com).

Sincerely,

Angel R.
Electronic Arts Tier-3 Customer Support

Response #4 when I AGAIN pointed out I was the Admin, this being the SOLE account on my computer:

Hello Gamer,

Thank you for contacting Electronic Arts.

I do apologize for the issues you have been experiencing with Dragon Age 2. As a gamer myself, I can understand how frustrating this issue can be. I have been assigned to your issue, and would be happy to assist you in this matter. At this time this is a known issue that our developers are looking into. Please keep track of the following forum topic as this is where they are updating this issue. http://social.biowar...index/6409370/5

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game in the future, please visit our web site and review our extensive Self Help Knowledge base (http://support.ea.com). Your reference number is 110310-004768

Best Regards,
Brandan C..
Electronic Arts Tier 3 Customer Support.

Guess what thread they directed me to that time? The OLD 'Administrative Issues' thread, which was closed almost three weeks ago and replaced with this one! Do these guys even research their solutions and advice before throwing them at us?

Also, the automated, artificial repetition of 'fellow gamer' is making me sick.

My weekly re-post of this PhysX issue I'm still getting:

SteveGarbage wrote...

Since this appears to be the launch-issue HQ, we've been trying to deal with a launching PhysX Error. The game runs the first time configuration without issue, but when you attempt to start it, it gives an "Error initializing PhysX" and then shuts down. The program never gets off the desktop.

Myself and others with this issue have extensively tried to troubleshoot the problem with no luck. We tried the current Beta Patch release with no success. We've tried all the "typical" fixes from updating and uninstalling/reinstalling drivers (BIOS/video/sound, you name it, just about all of them) as well as uninstalling/reinstalling and/or updated the PhysX package from the Nvidia site, making us believe this is a software issue beyond our grasp to handle.

For more information we have a substantial thread on this issue in the demo forum, as well as one I started on this issue here in the PC Techncial Self Help Forum:
Error Initializing PhysX (demo forum thread, 8 pages): http://social.biowar...index/6150178/1
and Error Initializing PhysX - Game Unplayable (PC support forum thread: http://social.biowar...14339/1#6562917

Here's the problem in a nutshell:

Just continuing to hope this issue is being looked into for a possible resolution. I did receive some feedback from some BioWare staff earlier and sent in a couple requested logs, but have since seen nothing on this. Just keeping it at the forefront with gentle reminders from time to time.

Does anyone have the fix for the unauthorized account problem? It was posted on the original thread but it looks like EA has removed any reference to it. Thanks EA!!! The fix was a bin file that created a new icon and actually ran the game. Worked very well until I was dumb enough to download the patch.....so much for being able to play the game!

The only solution to the guest account problem right now is a cracked executable. Obviously, we can't post those here. Google it.

Does anyone know if not having SP3 on my XP has any effect on this issue:

EA needs to do something about this mess they call a game.  I spent 2 hours with an EA tech last night and tried everything that's listed on this forum, including reinstalling four times.  Got the same result each time, hit play, config utility screen came on and progressed about 1/3 of the way, and screen went to desktop.  Finally got the message from the tech that it was going to be turned over to the "second tier" and they would contact me by email.  After reading the forum, what are the chances??? I don't want to use a crack.exe cause I don't trust them.  Where does that leave me?

You should be able to download SP3 from Microsoft's website without any trouble.

Anyway, this problem pops up in Vista and Win7, too, so I doubt that running SP3 will fix it.
