My weekly re-post of this PhysX issue I'm still getting:

SteveGarbage wrote...

Since this appears to be the launch-issue HQ, we've been trying to deal with a launching PhysX Error. The game runs the first time configuration without issue, but when you attempt to start it, it gives an "Error initializing PhysX" and then shuts down. The program never gets off the desktop.

Myself and others with this issue have extensively tried to troubleshoot the problem with no luck. We tried the current Beta Patch release with no success. We've tried all the "typical" fixes from updating and uninstalling/reinstalling drivers (BIOS/video/sound, you name it, just about all of them) as well as uninstalling/reinstalling and/or updated the PhysX package from the Nvidia site, making us believe this is a software issue beyond our grasp to handle.

For more information we have a substantial thread on this issue in the demo forum, as well as one I started on this issue here in the PC Techncial Self Help Forum:
Error Initializing PhysX (demo forum thread, 8 pages): http://social.biowar...index/6150178/1
and Error Initializing PhysX - Game Unplayable (PC support forum thread: http://social.biowar...14339/1#6562917

Here's the problem in a nutshell:

Just continuing to hope this issue is being looked into for a possible resolution. I did receive some feedback from some BioWare staff earlier and sent in a couple requested logs, but have since seen nothing on this. Just keeping it at the forefront with gentle reminders from time to time.

Another poster brought it to my attention in one of the threads related to this issue and I have to concur with him - Dragon Age 2 utilizes PhysX 2.8.4.4 package. That PhysX package utilizes SSE2 instructions, which makes it incompatible with older processors, namely, the Athlon XP processor that myself and others experienced this problem have.

So I have to ask - can you guys, BioWare, issue a patch that would allow for a "legacy" PhysX support that would allow non SSE2 processors to play the game? Because it appears in the current state if the game uses this PhysX build, that it will never be playable on my system or any other system with a non SSE2 instruction-capable processor.

Yes, I realize that the old Athlon XP processor is well below the game's minimum specs. I suppose it would be easy to just neglect the problem and chalk it up to a "that's what you get for trying to operate below the minimum" but I would hope that this could be an issue that would be supportable.

A quick Google search shows that such a "legacy" fix has been made for the game "Dogfighter" so I'm hopeful that a similar patch could be released for Dragon Age 2.

I'm not really surprised that nothing is happening here. Just checking in to see that nothing has been said/done/attempted.

Well, off to my 3rd (and last, for now) play-through. Thanks for making me turn to solutions I don't care for at all. I absolutely hate it, I bought the game dammit, I want to play it the way it should be played. But it was either that or not play the game I paid a lot of money for.

Ditto.

Including the third playthrough bit. :P

Since they seem to always link THIS forum in their mails, i assume that they WANT us to use the cracked.exe. Since this seems to be the only solution that really helped most of the people out there. Am I correct?

Yep. Nothing I did ever fixed the issue of the release date checker permanently crashing after hitting 100 percent. Once I downloaded the crack exe file, everything works just fine. Sad how the one and only thing preventing me from playing the game I payed for was EA's stupid anti-piracy activation app. Solved, of course, by piracy.

Will at least I was able to play through Dragon Age II once on the XP pro OS I had.  On Friday I Upgraded to Windows 7 (perhaps a mistake) and went about restoring my machine to do what I love most, play games.

After a few bumps and grinds I finally got around to installing Dragon Age II think I'd play it through again as a different avatar and maybe taking a different road.

And to my suprise it didn't work on the new Window 7 OS.  I've tryed all the fixes in this forums to no avail (haven't used the crack as I just can't make myself do it).

Hit the Play button (after runing the Beta.patch) and it goes to the Config Utility which stops after a few seconds like it hit a brick wall. Everything looks fine according to the first fix as mentioned in the first post (see below).

lazarusl.com/DAII01.jpg

lazarusl.com/DAII02.jpg

But alas it still stops at the config utility that's built into game .. and bypassing the launcher exe and going to the DAII exe just gets the same ol error message that I'm not authorized to play the game even as Admin and Hidden Admin .. all kinds of other accounts with full rights .. it just doesn't work.

Oh well maybe a year from now BioWare will come up with a fix for the Windows 7 platform .. I guess I'll keep checking back.

Has anyone tried raging at the people on the support line yet? I'm considering doing that since they seem to be treating us like morons. If it doesn't help, it'll at least relieve some stress :P

Its absolutely ridiculous that there isn't a fix yet, as well as no response from Bioware or EA since this thread was created. Horrible customer service.

I've honestly lost a good portion of my motivation to buy ME3 on launch, because I'm afraid that this crap will happen again.

I was just BARELY able to finish a full playthrough. The entire time I played the game was constantly crashing, I was constantly resetting my PC, I had to mess with my settings every time I launched the game, etc.

EA needs to get out of the picture. Bioware was much better off without them slapping their name on everything.

Don't waste your time. Typically yelling at people doesn't solve anything. Besides, the tech support people likely don't have the means to get a solution to complex, internal problems anyway. Essentially it would be the same as asking David Gaider to fix your crashing problems. He's a writer, not a programmer. He may be able to offer some simple solutions, but it's not like he'd be able to whip up a patch for you to use.

Tech support people usually are only trained to fix problems caused by the user and not the actual product.

Will I came to the conclusion that Windows 7 pretty much sucks and I restored back to Xp pro.

Dragon Age II now runs once again -- perhaps in the future I'll go back to the 64bit system but not today.

Best of luck to you all that are still having problems.

"Dragon Age II has stopped working" solution

System: Win 7 64bit. Playing via STEAM. Driver NVIDIA GeForce 8800 GTS 512.
Problem: After opening the game in steam the launch pad appears. When pressing play on the launch pad the game does not start. The following error message appears: "Dragon Age II has stopped working".

Did not work: Running steam as administrator.
Did not work: Turning off antivirus.

Worked: Updated graphics driver. Game now plays.

Thanks.

Still my problem:
EV#52959 – Some are getting “The application will not run on a Windows guest account or an account with insufficient privileges” error, regardless of Admin status.

Signature Edition, DVD, Windows 7 64bit

Tried everything - several Re-Installs, launching via EA-Download-Manager, reset WMI-Configuration several times (though consistent and showing correct Processor/Memory etc. initially), activated Administrator-Account and installed from there / tried to run game from there, updated 1.01.
Still doesn´t work.

Is there any hope of a solution anytime soon ?
Nothing new on this topic since March 12 as I see it !?!?

My problem is with this godforsaken Date Release Check thingy. I got this game today, and I must add, fully paid for my PC copy. Installed the game, then when I wanted to play (obviously...) It ran this DRC. I clicked accept, this check went up to 80%, then disspeared, like nothing happend. After that, when I reclicked on Play, nothing seemed to happen.
What is wrong with Bioware and EA? I've paid for my copy. Don't I deserve to play? Why is it asking to check the release date when the game was released on March 11th, and today is April 1st?? I checked online and no one seem to have an answer for it. I'm very annoyed with the situation, and start to regret buying it....

Last update was 12th of March. Come on, -_-

The only reason I purchased the retail copy of the game was so I don't have to crack it to get through the DRM.

It seems like I have to anyway.

Still getting the guest account error.

Give us a freaking update please!

The only fix is to crack the game.  Google it.  We can't give you details here.  :(

Same here, the configuration crashes and the main exe says that I need to login as a user that isn't the guest account.

Beta patch and others don't work.

Response #3, when I pointed out that the thread they referenced actually stated the patch DOES NOT fix the admin/guest account issue and perhaps they should read the fine print themselves before directing people to it:

Hello Fellow Gamer,

Thank you for contacting EA Support regarding your issue. As a gamer myself, I completely understand your frustration, and I will do everything I can to assist you further.

1. Right-click on the "Command Prompt" under Start > All Programs > Accessories
2. Select "Run as Administrator:
3. A black box should appear. Type in "net user administrator /active:yes" (minus the quotes)
4. Press the enter key. It then should say "The command completed successfully"
5. Close out of the command prompt and log out of the current user account
6. There should now be a new user named "Administrator"; click on it to log in.
7. Try running the game
8. To disable the account do steps 1-4, but for step 3, type in "net user administrator /active:no" (minus the quotes)

Should you require further assistance about this or any Electronic Arts game in the future, please visit our web site and review our extensive Self Help Knowledge base (http://support.ea.com).

Sincerely,

Angel R.

Do you understand that if you have a computer, you're most likely the administrator? With Windows 7 and Vista, EVEN IF you are the only person on that account and your user has admin rights... it doesn't.

Using the command prompt unlocks the route admin account. With this account, you basically have access to EVERYTHING. It's a step that not many people know, and I'm suprised the agent knew how to do it.

Kudos to her.

THIS is gold. I appreciate that others understand that just because I do technical support, doesn't mean that I coded the game. I'm sure this is for the people at EA and Bioware

Actually, since the method they provided had already been suggested in this thread (they seem to be rehashing everything posted in here rather than suggesting ideas of their own), I was aware.

Since I'm on WinXP it doesn't matter. ;) Apparently they were not aware it *doesn't* work for my OS.

Don't worry.  It doesn't work in Windows 7, either.  In fact, it's not going to work for anybody.  I seriously doubt that anyone is trying to play DA2 on the guest account (which most people don't even know about).  Normal users should be able to play the game.  That we can't play as normal users or as administrators points to a bug in the DRM software itself.

There is no legal solution to this problem 27 days after release.  It's ****ing ridiculous.
