I am also having an issue with msvcr80.dll

I have updated everything possible to update. Beta drivers, etc etc. Installs with AVG off, click play --> "Dragon age has stopped working."

This is the error message I receive. Been like this since Tuesday morning now, and its rather infuriating. Any help is greatly appreciated. I have already tried to reinstall using an administrator account even though my account has those rights, to no avail.

I resolved the problem with the release date authenticator getting stuck at 30% and then giving you a random error.  It seems that for some reason or another, some kinda bug or permission problem in dragon age 2 was not letting dragon age 2 or the securom release date authenticator see the internet.  So the solution is, if you are running windows 7. (I'm not sure for other versions of windows if this will work.)  Run an elevated command prompt (basically run cmd.exe as administrator)  Then you have to enable the hidden built in Administrator account for windows 7.  In the command prompt you will type something like this

C:\\windows\\system32>net user administrator active:yes

the command prompt will tell you that the command was successfully executed.

Log off of your account and log in to the built in administrator account.

Run your Da2 again and it should get through the release control.

If you need more detailed instructions on the built in administrator go here.

I'm still working on how to get it working with my normal account.

For those with this problem  as I had this is what I did to fix it.

Problem: Game installed fine. After clicking play on the Launch screen, the release check supposedly finished, the screen went black for about 3~4 seconds and returned to the desktop

****SOLUTION (Windows 7 and probably vista)*******
1.) BETA UPDATE!!!!!!!!!! Either ATI or Nvidia. I have ati so im not 100% sure about nvidia, but if you do not have BETA 11.4 DA2 will not work!!!!! When installing the CCC (catalyst control center, turn off any virus programs and run in admin just in case, really shouldnt be a big deal)

1b)Make sure you have either DX 9, 10, 11

2.)Install game with virus protection off, and with an account that HAS ADMINISTRATOR PRIVILEGES, "run as administrator" is not the same thing. Check if your account has the privileges. (Control PanelUser Accounts and Family SafetyUser Accounts, --> if your account doesnt say administrator under it, make an account that does, or do the following to enable defualt admin accoun (if your account is admin goto 3):
Right Click on "My Computer"
-->"manage"
When the computer management screen comes up  click on "Local Users and Groups" in the left tab pane.
Click on "Users"
Right Click on "Administator"
Un-check (if it is checked) "Account is disabled"
Create a password (i think the defualt password is "admin")
Re-start
Log on as adminstrator

3.)Install DA2 (make sure virus protection is off, preferably UAC as well (User Account Controls), but not as critcal as turning off virus protection)
4.) Manually Add firewall exception( Even though the installer will do it)

5.) Re-start

6.)Log back on as administrator

7.)Make sure you have an active internet connection. (Release date check for some reason check some server on the web, instead of checking your pc clock???)

8.)Run Launcher (Click on cd drive, desktop icon, etc....)

9.)click "play"

---At this point for those who had errors with starting the game(as in it would not start at all) after an possibly succsesfull release date check, should be ok and good to go. Just complete the EA activation and youre golden

*****NOTE****** I CANT STRESS HOW IMPORTANT IT IS TO HAVE THE MOST RECENT VIDEO DRIVERS IS. It has gotten to the point where im almost sure that if you dont have the beta drivers (at least for ati) then DA2 will not launch no matter what DX version you have.

I'm able to play now, adding firewall and antivirus exceptions to the D2 exe's was my solution.

Those who turned off AVG before doing a complete reinstall (and had the DRM, date checker problem), did you turn off windows firewall on your comp as well (or other lingering ones)?

Thanx Bioware/EA. I always pay for games I like, since more money (hopefully) generate more good/fun games. But after all the screw ups with both DAO and now DA2 I wonder if it´s really worth the time and money. I can´t get the game running at all - although I´ve tried all the solutions posted on this forum.
It´s more than crap that you don´t even manage to release a game that even starts - Pathetic!
Maybe you should have worked on testing the game instead of all these promo-stuff that you did. Maybe then more of us, the customers, would be happy and satisfied with the product we´ve paid for. As of now - me and many more are wondering what the hell you are doing releasing this unplayable crap.
I did exactly this multiple times.  When it didn't work, I also uninstalled my antivirus (AVG, known to cause problems) and completely disabled the firewall.  I also tried installing in different locations.  Nothing has worked.  The Release Date check goes through, but I don't even get a black screen or a window when the game attempts to start.  The window containing the executable is deselected for a few seconds, then re-selected.  According to the task manager, DA2 starts for a few seconds, only to abort, leaving behind Werfault, "Windows Problem Reporting."

My system fulfills all the requirements, though I only have an 8600M GT video card, on the low end, with the latest driver.  The only other pertinent detail would be that I run Windows 7 64-bit.

I did the live chat with EA to no avail.  They recommended that I try a clean boot to troubleshoot.  I stopped all non-Microsoft services, no go.  Has anyone actually gone through and done troubleshooting with the Windows services?  I'm not confident enough to try without knowing that I won't ireparrably screw something up.

Very sad about this whole thing.  Had no problems at all with DA:O.  Not sure that I'm ever going to bother preordering again.

OMFG!!!!!!! What are you doing about this administrator error problem. 2 more hrs till work is over and going home AGAIN knowing i wont be playing with the $60 broken toy you sold me. What an F-in threat to tolerance!
I dont beleieve for one second that they never saw this error. Just grab the money and we will deal with it later. Typical corporate revenue generating BS tactics from this industry.
I know this is not constructive but I would rather vent at Bioware EA atm than the wall next to me.

People who cant play at all should be priority one over any other issue with the game right now. DirX11 lag...at least you can go to 9 and play the damm game.

I should have just bought DCUO which was in the other hand at the store.

No point in keep posting the same " that's <xx> my error, and this is my system <xxxx>"

I understand that people are getting frustrated, but i think Bioware's working hard on fixing the issue, it's not like they get customers / good PR by "discovering the mysteries in the depths of their belly buttons" :3

I get to the "splash" screen and can push the play button. But after pushing it nothing happens I have tried the whole ****SOLUTION (Windows 7 and probably vista)*******... Uninstalled my virus program, reinstalled the game. I have updated my video card to the beta edition Nvdia 8600gt. Also tried a lot of things suggested on this subject. Don't know what more to do. =(

I'm still working on how to get it working with my normal account.

Bledthru you are a god!!! :wizard:

This worked for me and after doing it I can launch on both the build in admin account and my normal admin account. I'm also running windows 7. Here is a link for windows vista people (it's pretty much the same as windows 7)

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/555910

Kinda funny though, now I have the problem where I cannot log into my EA account on my normal account from in-game, it is saying that I need internet connection, but I can log in on the build in admin account (hopefully just need to pass some admin priveledges). Well off to another thread. lol
At least this problem is fixed. Thanks!!

(Signature edition) I can get past the installation and the release date checker just fine. When I click play, "Dragon Age 2 has stopped working" pops up instantly. I am not able to play the game at all, whatsoever. I played the demo just fine. Windows 7 Ultimate 32bit, ATI Mobility Radeon HD4650, 512MB VRAM, Intel® Core™2 Duo CPU T6500 @ 2.10GHz

EDIT: To be more specific, this is pretty much the same problem I have. Except under "Problem Event Name" instead of saying "APPCRASH", mine says "BEX". Whatever that means...
