Crap computer or not, I can run this game perfectly. I don't think I need to spend $100 for a dual core to get a whopping 3 FPS increase!

im sure u can until the game tries to use the second core which you dont have to save the game and you get stuck in the save loop.

Who's talking about saving right now? I'm talking pure FPS in gameplay.

Fair enough, Though I like to think my 3.6 Ghz un-clocked comes close though. *shurgs* When you pre-order you just kind of have to play the system requirement lottery.

some are, but that is because thier computers are only allocating one cpu towards the game instead of two. there is a manual fix for those people.

If that's the case then this whole dual core vs. single core descusion is pretty much useless. ^_^

(edit: this assumes that the fixes really aren't working)

There's a similar line of talk on the other thread as well concerning the ACTUAL minimum requirements:

Ok, I have the same problem and heres my take on this:

I am running a top spec system which is full AMD/ATI. I have 6 cores, but AMD have a nifty little thing which gives each program such as a game or photoshop its own core. This makes things go a bit smoother when multitasking massive amounts of crap at the same time, obviously. If what you guys are saying is true, then this obviously explains why I am having the same problem and also why some other people with multi core systems are also having the problem. Just for reference you can turn off the individual cores (It is called 'unlocking' by AMD) in BIOS.

Are there any multi core intel problems?

Actually I am still waiting for it to be fixed. They will need to patch it in. I reckon most people here have a factory setup or software program which is forcing the game onto one core.

I did just run a test which confirmed that AMD multi core with the 'unlocking' feature do dump the game onto a single core.

Perhaps that is it... who knows... I'm sure there is some intel software out there which does something similar also, or maybe it is just AMD? Either way, I am also updating my ATI drivers, since they are also crap-tastic for this game... they should have done more testing.

Anyone else just thinking of buying a new dual core processor? I could probably get one for my 7-year-old motherboard (ancient, I know, but it runs fine!) for about fifty-five dollars. That means I'd be paying about double for my DAII experience, but I really would like to play soon...I'm just wondering if shipping a new part off eBay would be quicker than a fix?

Yea FPS is no problem. default settings and getting 50+ fps is great but the whole "need the other core to save" thing is kind of important haha.

Yea i was looking at new ones. But if i'm going to upgrade im going for a quad core. If i'm going to upgrade im going to make sure i dont need to do it again for a few years.

I am having the same problem as everyone else here, this was a late birthday present from my hubby (game only came out today here in the uk)... suffice to say i am not a happy teddy bear grrrr, i do have a new pc coming in the next couple of weeks which is specifically built for gaming but that doesn't help with the frustration of not being able to play a much anticipated game now. i do hope this is fixed sooner (much sooner) rather than later or i may just have to go cry lol

I've been following the posts from the beginning and it looks to me like no matter how we feel about this mess up one thing is clear WE WOULD LIKE TO AT LEAST HAVE 1 UPDATE A DAY SAYING WE ARE WORKING ON IT, WERE CLOSE TO SOLVING THE PROBLEM OR IT WILL BE A FEW DAYS (HOURS HOPEFULLY BUT WERE NOT THAT LUCKY). Anything to keep us feeling like bioware feels our pain. I mean these guys are gamers they have to understand our fustration. Show me some LOVE.

They did post an update on the issue 23 hours ago saying they were working on it and succesfully managed to make the game run on a single CPU at the core level of the game. ETA is none. That means between now and eternity. Considering the ME version of the problem took a month and the fallout 3 version took 3 months. I'm guessing at best a week or two.

This post is also stickied and here is a quote from it.

This is currently occurring because the game is only
utilizing one CPU - either because your machine only has one (single
core machines) or your machine is only attempting to use one (multicore
machines).  The game saves asynchonously (ie, on a seperate core) to
allow you to keep playing while it saves, which it cannot do with only
one core.

Programming is working on the problem now. I don't have an ETA on a fix, but we have been able to
recreate
the issue by telling the game to only utilize a single core at the code
level, which means we can work on fixing it now.

Good news: The "unable to save/load" and "infinite load on entering Kirkwall" issues are both addressed by the 1.01 BETA patch, as are any issues where the game requests an unexpected drive.

Get it now. :wizard:

I'm honestly trying to figure out why anyone would expect a new game like this to run on a 7 year old motherboard in the first place.

That said, my BF's running an Intel E2200 CPU and it's running fine.. it's not a true dual core, but instead simulates it, from what I remember.

Initially unable to reach Kirkwall as the game crashes at cutscences. The more "classical animation" parts about the darkspores/the battle about 10seconds in it freezes and the crashes and I haven't had time to save. It can be avioded by skipping the scene the moment it commences but it's not a stand a long issue. I've had this with the witch of the wilds/ship scence (this has also continued into Act 2 scences in this style).

I have a Sony Vaio laptop, Windows 7-64bit, GeForce 310M, 4Gb RAM, 300+Gb free space.

Oki get stuck on Kirkwall loading screen, everthing runs fine.. you get the took 2 weeks to get there , blah blah.. and the goes to the loading screen.. would try more options...tried updating win xp s3,turning sound off, updating graphics drivers ..same thing everytime.. but as u cant save it on way to kirkwall , 5 times creating a char and the playing through it is enough ( first 2 where oh , that must be a hic-up and then trying a lets see if it occurs again test). I wonder if its the same batch of games, bought mine from Play (should have the neck, but no code inbox, uless u get it at the emporium),

The Weary Mad one...by the way have single core.. have a new quad that arrived tyoday.. but wanted to play it now.. will take a few days to sort software out on the new base.. if works on that i post it.
