Would anyone trade in their boyfriend/husband for Alistair?

As much as I enjoy in game romances I would never trade them in for what I have.
Why?
1) what I have is real (not pixels)
2) The choice have been much bigger (much more guys to choose from in real world - the game only has 2)
3) I've known him for years, Alistair I've known for like oh... less than 90h of gameplay. And I'd never trade someone I love for someone I've known for few days.
No... just... no...

That sounds an awfull lot like 'maybe'
Do women practice stuff like this.
If Alistair was real. You eye him over and he would see that and see the interest.
(as would i he is an interesting person and such are rare in real world tho i see the 'gestalt' while women might be allowed more basic desires
and you then either (a)go 'without a backwards glance'
or (b)hang in range.
? a or b?

You're just reading into things. It's not a maybe - it's a definite no.
If I met hin IRL it would still be a no (it would take a LOT for a guy to make me choose him instead of the one I have).
Do I look at other men? yes. Do I flirt? Sometimes, but I don't let it go further than this. I'm not made of stone, and I still get attracted to other men. I just know the difference between attraction and love. Considering that I work with men daily and meet more men than women, I'm used to it. And yes, I feel attracted to some of them.
Now to answer your question. Would I give Alistair a 2nd glance? Probably. Would I "hang in range"? No clue what you mean by that. But I wouldn't stay around if there was no real reason to do so. <_<

*wistful sigh* Why cant Alistair be real?
If it's any consolation, he was totally based upon me but downgraded a little so as not to overwhelm.
ha! nice
and i agree with Memengwa - the point of this was not that you're ACTUALLY going to trade someone in, but are the good character romance option. yes, yes, alistair is. with that said, ANY game romance is ultimately cheesy because
1. real romance is about 2 unique people finding one another out of all the world and being better together than apart
and
2. if you're writing a game, at least 1 of those "people" is going to be a PC that is totally role-playable any way you like it. thus the npc will always "like" the pc for pretty superficial reasons instead of anything truly resembling real personality, choices, etc. alistair's point about how he likes you "because you've gone through so much together" perfectly illustrates this. that's not really a terribly solid basis for a relationship, but its the best the game can do since the game is responding not to you, personally, the pc, but to a blank pc "slot"
so, anyhow, if you really want to get something out of the romances, i think you just have to supply a lot with your imagination. some peeps are total romantics and love to do so. but hey, if you're not a romantic, then just forget about it, ignore those dialogs, and don't go dissing on those people who are.

uh.... a cautious answer? a realistic answer? morrigan is a hottie and look where THAT gets you. wanting more than just sex makes him a more realistic character - and to some people, more appealing.

I'd trade my wife for Alistair. It's not that I find him desireous or sexy, it's just that after being married so long, I'd rather have someone that cooks.
Good one!
But does he cook well?

Anyone who turns down sex is either bad at it or can tell the offerer has a disease.
THAT'S realistic

Not really. Someone in my family, a guy, had a prom date who wanted to jump him on prom night and he turned her down. He now has an adorable girlfriend and they seem quite happy together.
What can I say? 1% of the male population acutally has some standards and are actually atractive to women with standards.
I don't know if I'd actually want an Alistair IRL, but if it was a choice between him and having a sexist moron like most of the men I meet and who seem to populate the internet, I know who I'd choose. And yes, that would be the fictional character.

Yes I would take him over my husband. We're married almost 9 years now and I STILL have to ask him to kiss me. *grumbles* At least Alistair would give an entertaining show of it.

We mature much faster nowadays in such aspects, so I can see why people would find him appealing.

I ask because I was listening to the gamers with jobs podcast, and one of the guys in the discussion was talking about his wife who was also playing the game, and she told him about Alistair - "I think he's the one"
and then all the guys were like oh no
left in the dust by a game char.
So who out there would ditch who you were with for Alistair?
Alistair.. NO

Here's a reality check. No man can go at it for a week straight, he'd be dead. Be happy with the few hours and occassional all-nighter we give you. But no, they read these books about Celctic Warrior Space Vampires and want every other man to be like that. I've known a fair-few women who read that disgusting sh*t and they are exactly how I just described.
My point is: No man is perfect. Alistair is a FICTIONAL character, and thus can be perfect because he was created and is not real.
There are funny romantic guys out there. Stop complaining how you'll never find one and go look.
It's just as sad as the men demanding female nudity in the game and demanding every girl be as sweet and caring as Leliana or as 'forbidden' and beautiful as Morrigan. No woman is perfect either. They're going to have this thing called a 'flaw'. Quite a few of them in fact, just like us.
