So, anyone have any ideas on why Sandal is and looks so creepy now? I used to smile every time I spoke to Sandal in DA:O. Now, I'm a little freaked. On a happy note though, at least he says more than "Enchantment" and the things the Bodahn tells him to say. Also, I don't understand Sandal's new look, I can understand Bodahn's because he's getting older, but Sandal?

Bodahn's voice is now incredibly grating.

"Not enchantment!!!"
Easily one of the funniest lines so far.

I think they lost Sandal's original VA. The new one is pretty lifeless.

His new look is probably from whatever he did to all those darkspawn in Origins. Remember when you walk into that room and there are dozens of dead darkspawn all around and you go up and ask Sandal what happened. He just gets this goofy grin on his fan (or it's just there all the time heh) and says "Enchantment!"

he has lost some innocence

Possibly some kind of taint or something?
Could be he isn't a complete tranquil and because of that something is happening in him? He is a dwarf isn't he?
I don't know but I have to agree I loved him in origins and it made me go "
" every time he said enchantment. But indeed he does look creepy.

I think it's just because everyone got a little revamped from DA:O. No real plot reason, just a bit of fiddling with the 3D art designs.

Honestly, the new 'streamlined' art design sucked. Everything looks painted on and faces (eyes especially) are just not as lifelike, even if it is easier to make a hot, albeit slightly cookie-cut, PC. "Yeah, I said it."
I really realised this when encountering a Desire Demon close up and could only think "eeerrrk, that's not good - her nose looks so painted on". Bodhain and Sandal look atrocious. But then again, at least they bear some vague resemblance to their originals.
Alistair and Zevran, I weep for you.

Those two were definitely let downs.
I chalk Isabela's....erm..."enhancements" and face lift to Varric's story "embellishments".

If Sandal didn't look or sound creepy, then he would have failed his purpose.

I disagree. It was way more of a surprise when we first found him standing around, covered in blood, surrounded by dead darkspawn, when he looked vaguely normal. A little bit special, yes, but otherwise unremarkable seeming, with just one particular obsessive talent - like you sometimes get savant kids being incredible at music or maths in real life.
His new look isn't a deal breaker, but I do think it lessons his impact. (His eyes are like made of lyrium now.... of course he does weird stuff!)

I think he is supposed to be disturbed. There was a scene that encapsulated it (that I can't find on youtube) where Bodahn asks him to thank you for saving him in the deep roads and he then stares at you, lips quivering for about 3-5 seconds and says "thank you" in a very sad kind of way. The music if I recall also changed slightly or was emphasised to make it sound darker.

I'm really curious to see what happens to Bodahn and Sandal later on. For my part, I really like Bodahn. It feelt so real for me when he was concerned about what would happen to Sandal when he gets older. I'm really happy that they keept them in the game.

I love Bodhans voice actor, i like how he overplays his role and makes Bodhan sound so extreme.
"Hopefully this mess with the templarrs will be sorted oout soon, i worrii about yu messarre"
As for Sandal... I've gotten used to him, but i did prefer the old voice actor.
I think it is excellent that there are more supernatural hints to him this time around.

Does anyone remember that weird moment where Sandal starts talking really prophetically? What was that all about o_0

It was so cute/sad when Sandal thanks you, but his lower lip is quivering. It made me go, "AWWWWWWWWWWW"

Some speculate that it's a sign about dwarven mages "retuning"Teecat wrote...

It's the eyes. For some reason, Sandal and many of the other dwarves now have these eery shining eyes. It looks incredibly out of place.

I kind of like sandal's new VA. At first I almost hated it, but it grew on me. As for his new look, I can live with it though he does look older (even more lyrium-addled?), as for Bodahn if he dies from old age or something before DA3 he better go out accompanying someone important or helping in another world-saving conflict.

He's not bad. You can't not like his "Can I have some salamanders, please?" line.

I was so sad there wasn't an option for me to say, "I didn't save him, he was just fine!" And I want to ask, "Where the heck were you when Sandal was climbing a tower crawling with Darkspawn in Denerim?" except Hawke wouldn't know about that.JesterPsychotica wrote...

I don't really care about Sandhal, but for some reason I liked that Bodahn was around the estate and would comment on recent events whenever you got home.
