Edit: That wont stop me from trying. Ill probably just map my controller for movement and a few hotkeys, but Ill still have my keyboard and mouse in front of me.

Would your machine acknowledge the controller commands? yes.
Would they translate to the gameplay mechanics you would like them to imply, similar to 360 functionality? No.
Would you like what happens when you try that? No.
What should YOU do? Get the 360 version as it appears you are hung up with that play scheme.

I have played Dungeons and Dragons Online for 3 years utilizing an xbox 360 controller mapped to control the movement, camera rotation, hoy key and hot bar rotation, item focus and enemy focus on my PC. These 2 games actually have a number of similarities. I see absolutely no reason why we shouldn't pursue the use of the 360 controller on a PC version of Dragon Age. In DDO i also combine the use of the keyboard and mouse for complete functionality. Sometimes its nice to just lean back and play.
I purchased the PC version of this game as I had researched reviews that pointed out graphical differences and limitations of the Xbox 360 version respectfully.
Long and short of it, i'm going to use 3rd party software to emulate the keystrokes if i can, however i would love it if Bioware would add support in the next patch. i'll update my progress here.

Yes, it would be. The game was first designed for PC's and got ported to consoles, which went through at least 1 year of attempting to configure the platforms to run the game using a gamepad. It would NOT be an easy thing to just "patch" in. It would require a complete rework of the PC platform as well.Joel171 wrote...
I don't suppose it would be hard to patch it in. I don't know I'm not a developer. It could be patched in and have an option in the game to switch between UIs. If they had Xbox controller function, I'd use it, for sure. Just for a change of pace.

I was just wondering if anyone knew if DA:O will let you use a 360 controller on the PC, or any gamepad for that matter? Mostly just curious cause sometimes its easier on the eyes to be able to sit back from the screen a bit, and I can't really balance a keyboard and mouse on my lap.
I am currently using my PS3 sixaxis controller on the PC version of DAO so the answer is YES YES YES.
Yes I also have the PS3 version of DAO ce. The controller is not as smooth as playing on the PS3 but functional. Look for the sixaxisdriver package. It contains the windows Game Controller driver and a XBOX keymapper program called ControlMK.
I map the left stick to be a mouse and the right stick to keys Q W E S. The X to left click and O to right click.
The L1, L2 to camera panning A and D keys. It can get cumbersome at times but I am adaptable.
Hope that answers your quest.......
Oh I forgot I connect using the USB cable and not BT to close to the PS3 might pick up the signal. Or you could do the BT with an unpaired controller to your PS3.
Sorry I was not online a month ago to help you with this... but it should help others or at lest your next origin quest.
