I was just wondering if anyone knew if DA:O will let you use a 360 controller on the PC, or any gamepad for that matter?  Mostly just curious cause sometimes its easier on the eyes to be able to sit back from the screen a bit, and I can't really balance a keyboard and mouse on my lap.

Well considering it's not going to have the UI that's been designed for the gamepad I'm not sure whether it'll be successful or not. I say go for it and see what happens :)

Don't know I'm afraid one for the devs will have to answer,  personally I wouldn't want to do this...but wouldn't be hard for them to allow this.

They didn't add in support for ME, so I doubt we'll see it in DA:O either, it would be nice though.

Does anyone know the answer? This determines if I buy the PC or 360 version.

PC and console versions have different ui, so even if you could get a controller working it would be way too clunky to use it with the pc interface

You can theoretically, but it won't be good. The interface for PC relies heavily on the mouse and is very different from the controller-friendly console interface. That is, you will be frustrated trying to use your 360 controller like a mouse and keyboard without all the features that make it slick for the console versions.

You will have to use 3rd party programs to map the 360 controller. There is sadly no support for it like there is in say Fallout 3, which blows IMO.

Edit: That wont stop me from trying. Ill probably just map my controller for movement and a few hotkeys, but Ill still have my keyboard and mouse in front of me.

I just still don't get why you want ot use a 360 controller on a game designed for Keyboard/Mouse...it's just akward and doesn't play as intended? So why would they make the controller supported? That's why there is a console version.

Anyways..you can use the 3rd party programs and it will work just fine.

I don't suppose it would be hard to patch it in. I don't know I'm not a developer. It could be patched in and have an option in the game to switch between UIs. If they had Xbox controller function, I'd use it, for sure. Just for a change of pace.

Quick Answer? No.

Would your machine acknowledge the controller commands? yes.

Would they translate to the gameplay mechanics you would like them to imply, similar to 360 functionality? No.

Would you like what happens when you try that? No.

What should YOU do? Get the 360 version as it appears you are hung up with that play scheme.

Well, I'm getting the PC version regardless, already pre-ordered and such. It was just a nice touch in some games to have built in 360 controller maps (eg: Fallout 3, Operation Flashpoint: Dragon Rising, Borderlands). As I basically said, the controller is nice to have for comfort reasons more than anything else. If it did work, I'd still have atleast the keyboard in reach, but if it doesn't work, its no major loss to me.

I have played Dungeons and Dragons Online for 3 years utilizing an xbox 360 controller mapped to control the movement, camera rotation, hoy key and hot bar rotation, item focus and enemy focus  on my PC.  These 2 games actually have a number of similarities.  I see absolutely no reason why we shouldn't pursue the use of the 360 controller on a PC version of Dragon Age.  In DDO i also combine the use of the keyboard and mouse for complete functionality.  Sometimes its nice to just lean back and play.

I purchased the PC version of this game as I had researched reviews that pointed out graphical differences and limitations of the Xbox 360 version respectfully.

Long and short of it, i'm going to use 3rd party software to emulate the keystrokes if i can, however i would love it if Bioware would add support in the next patch.  i'll update my progress here.

Yes, it would be. The game was first designed for PC's and got ported to consoles, which went through at least 1 year of attempting to configure the platforms to run the game using a gamepad. It would NOT be an easy thing to just "patch" in. It would require a complete rework of the PC platform as well.

I am currently using my PS3 sixaxis controller on the PC version of DAO so the answer is YES YES YES.
Yes I also have the PS3 version of DAO ce.  The controller is not as smooth as playing on the PS3 but functional.  Look for the sixaxisdriver package.  It contains the windows Game Controller driver and a XBOX keymapper program called ControlMK.
I map the left stick to be a mouse and the right stick to keys  Q W E S.  The X to left click and O to right click.
The L1, L2 to camera panning A and D keys.  It can get cumbersome at times but  I am adaptable.

Hope that answers your quest.......

Oh I forgot I connect using the USB cable and not BT to close to the PS3 might pick up the signal.  Or you could do the BT with an unpaired controller to your PS3.

Sorry I was not online a month ago to help you with this... but it should help others or at lest your next origin quest.

I don't own a 360 and have no intention to purchase one. However, Microsoft did release a driver to use a 360 controller on your computer. As far as any game is concerned, it is another gaming device. If the game allows you to map controls to a gamepad, then you should be in business.

it amazes me how many self entitled trolls on on these forum. Here is what to do ... reward their lack of foresight and customer service by not buying anyone more EA or bio-ware products.very simple Gamers play the way they like unless you are a mindless fan boy. they know better and should have made better choices.
