On a scale of 1 to 5, how do you rate DA2?

-1/2 for linear story
-1/2 for neutered romance system
-1/2 for shalow companions
-1/2 for complete lack of depth
-1/2 for cut paste areas
-1/2 for the lack of interactable world npcs
-1/2 for quests that were nothing more than fetch this
-1/2 for the total lack of "peacefull resolution" options in most cases
-1/2 for the narative style
So overall, not at all impressed. I am francly offended to have this palmed off as a sequal. Stoped playing 8 hours in at a friends place and have no inclination to buy the game and start again on my own PC. This isn't even a time waster game for me and thats saying a lot.

Much has already been said. Recycled enivorments confused me at first, but this is one game I couldn't put down. The pace of both the story telling and the combat are IMO perfect and I am finding that I am doing alot less pausing that I was in DA:O.
Just finished the second act and it reminded me of the second act of BG:SOA where you can really get lost doing every side quest available before moving on. Some of the characters reminded me of that game as well (without going into spoiler details).
It's not linear which is a HUGE bonus. Nothing annoys me more than an "RPG" that just kill a set of bad guys and then watch a short movie that tells a little bit more of the story, rinse, repeat. However, how the main plot started, confused me. Why do they want to go into the deep roads? At first I thought it was to escape, but it doesn't seem to be the case.
So I'd rate it higher than FF13 (2.5) but just slightly lower than ME2(4).

At the risk of being called a moronic, casual console ******, I'm going to give it a 5/5 and go right ahead and say that I like it better than Origins. The characterizations of the companions are stronger across the board, all of the quests actually have dialogue (none of that incessant job board crap), the moral choices feel more nuanced (in origins, if you sided with the templars, it was basically because you were a jerk. now there are very solid pros and cons to each faction), and the framed narrative creates consequences for your choices over time, within the same game, which is something Origins didn't really have.
You described it perfectly. I completely agree with all of it.

I'd give it a 4 (Maybe 3.75, not sure yet.) out of 5.
And the great RPG maker did say: "Never was a nerf a good thing"

Tell that to the rejoicing WoW community when frost mages finally get nerfed.

DA2 is pretty much better than Orgins in every way. Haters going be haters.
Better graphics, better combat, companions are at least equal if not better, Alistair on a wheel, much better inventory, and bunch of other things I don't wanna spoil.
So far game is an easy 4.5 - for lack of environments, Carver

3.5 stars
Not horrible but way below average for a Bioware game.

Of course, BG2 was better
Of course DAO was better
But these are different games, developed in a different time.
DA2 is just something new, and that's not a pure rpg, but if you expected it to be like its predecessors, you were just fooling yourselves.
edit : and 4 on 5 to stay on topic.

Really? You can't be serious! It's just sad to see Bioware make a dumbed down piece of trash. It's not an rpg...it's a terrible button masher that requires no brain cells.

To rate this game properly you'd need a scale that would reflect "shedding tears of disappointment", "rage over dumbing down games for console players" and "contempt for mediocrity as a result of rushing out the release".
Hopefully they'll do better next time.

Then again, maybe I'm just easily impressed. Or maybe it's because I haven't played DA:O cause the gameplay and dialogue mechanic was so boring it pissed me off.
