Don't read if you don't want to know something major about Bethany in the late part of Act I...
Wow. I was genuinely shocked at the outcome of that one. She was developing into a very solid - and relied upon - component of my party, so of course I was going to bring her along (should've known something was imminent when Mother Hawke panicked so much, lol).
It just sort of happens, too. One moment everything's great and the Deep Roads have been conquered, and then she's dead. You get a couple of lines, get to watch several cutscenes, watch 3 years pass, and then have to figure out who your new mage will be (Anders wasn't my choice for this playthrough, and he's been pretty amibvalent toward me so far).
Anyone else thrown for a loop by the whole Bethany situation? Anyone decide against to bring her along for the expedition after Mama Hawke voiced her protest so vehemently?

Yea i was surprised and redid deep roads to see if you could change the effect of the story. Had Anders in my party and Bethany becomes a Grey warden but you still lose the ability to use her. Her portrait still shows when choosing your character, but as of the start of A2 she's not usable.
From what i read no matter what you lose Bethany at the end of A1. What happens to her depends on if u take her or not and who else is in your party.

You can fight alongside her at the end of Act 2 if she is a Grey Warden.
Then again at the end of the game I believe.

@Sinvx and atheelogos Yes I left her at home, so if you take her she dies? How does she join the Grey Wardens.

I took Anders, myself, Merrill, and Varric. When I came back she was being taken to the Circle by Templars. I'm not sure how I replied.
Carver is dead. I guess if your a mage Carver lives?

you need to have Bethany and Anders go to deep roads for her to become a Grey Warden

For them to become a Warden both Anders and your sibling have to be in your party in the deeproads otherwise they join the circle/templars if left at home or die without Anders in the party.

If you bring Anders with you, If Bethany/Carver are with you, then they
won't die & Ander's leads you to a some Grey Wardens(he explains how
he knows). They take them & they become a Grey Warden & live.
If you leave either at home, Carver joins Kirkwall Templars & Bethany is taken by & forced into the Kirkwall Circle.

If you do the Anders/Bethany thing, does your Bethany still go away or can you use her form the rest of the game?

How they treat Bethany/Carver during/after the DR expedition totally sucks.
If I had know I was going to lose Bethany I wouldn't have bothered getting to know her or bringing her along on missions.
I was going to replay the DR expedition to try and get her to stay in the party, looks like that is out.

Well, it sounds better for her to become a Grey Warden then to become forced into the Circle.

I need confirmation that Bethany/Carver rejoins if you dont take her on the Deep Roads exped. My Bethany's turned into a valuable asset in my nightmare game, and without her I'm pretty much up a certain creek without a certain paddle unless I push down my difficulty, which is not an option.

After the Deep Roads expedition, there is no option for Bethany/Carver to rejoin your party. You are up a certain creek without a certain paddle, either lower your difficulty setting, start over, or make do with what you got.

If left behind, Circle!Bethany does not rejoin your party until the endgame, ie. final battle(s).

This has to be the only thing that I hate about Dragon Age 2, and it's a good hate. It get ts me in an emotional state of RAGE! Either way, the Darkspawn taint kills my sister, forces her to become a Grey Warden (Hawke will be proud but very pissed off), or taken by the Templer's. Either millions of Darkspawn will die, or I will destroy every Templar I get a chance at killing. Take your pick.
