Thank you for the reply Nathan. I am a software developer myself and certainly can appreciate bugs and the process required for addressing them. I've also been a huge Bioware fan from the beginning. I have to strongly disagree with your statement "Would you guys be happier if someone stopped into every thread every day saying 'Still working on it'? It doesn't really accomplish anything." With my company, any time we have an issue with a product our first priority is keeping an open dialog with our clients. Not doing so leaves them wondering if we care that there is an issue. In this case I am very relieved and happy to know that a fix is coming and will include single core users. Now that I know that I am happy to wait for it. Until now all we knew is that there was a problem but were left in the dark as to whether or not the fix would include single core users and were also in the dark as to whether or not Bioware was paying attention. Popping in each day just to say "We are working on it" makes us, the paying customer, feel better. That should be very much considered accomplishing something.

Thanks again for the update.

-E

I'm of the mind that no news is good news, and when they're getting close we'll get more updates.

Also, honestly I know the minimum spec says duo. But I still play a few games that have that as their min and still play and save just fine, so of course people thought they'd still be fine, especially after playing the demo. If you're going to make a game that can only be played on a PC with more than one core, it's probably best to be a little more clear on that sentiment.

That being said, I'm sure all of us single core users appreciate BioWare working on a fix for us to play, and we'll probably be more wary about PC game specs in the future. :/

That's my biggest gripe with the system requirements. Developers give computer users too much credit (sorry to say), so listing the type of processor doesn't do much, and people will many times ignore the "X2" or "Duo" part. But, most computer users know "single-core" from "multi-core" so a statement on min system reqs stating that single-core processors do not meet the sytem requirements goes a very long way and avoiding these kidns of problems.

Of course, as you said above, people will ignore my suggestion above anyway, so in the end until single-core computers come entirely off the market and/or no one buys them anymore, disregarding them is just bad for business.

Thanks for responding Nathan. I totally understand how you feel you are in a no win scenario. My apologies for ventingbmy anger the way I did but is frustrating not having ANY information. By all means no need for you to repeat yourself but just update us on the progress and you'll see every frown turn upside down on this thread

I thought I had a duo core machine, guess not. But as my computer ran origins with no issues I assumed this would be the same. As much as I appreciate the fact they're working on the issue we have a right to be upset, I paid for a game I can't play and there are people WITH duo core processors who can't play the game, they followed the rules and still can't enjoy a product they paid for.

As G.I. Joe always said "Knowing is half the battle" And knowing whether or not I need to tell the person that gave this game as a gift that I need the reciept to try and fight with the store to get a trade-in or something versus just waiting for the patch helps clarify things a bunch. THANKS

I'm another victim of this, but whic test this game? Mickey mouse? This is not a minor error!

Well when they test games, they use high end multi core computers. Most people use mid range gaming PCs (including me). They should test out the game on minimum specs though.

Actually, we test from out MIN SPEC through to relatively recent... with the majority of our hardware being roughly the Reccommended.   My personal machine is a Core2 Duo @2.66ghz.  I have a single geforce 8800 GTS, one 24" monitor (which I got recently, when my old 17 broke), and 17" as my secondary screen.   There's a great misconception that we have stockpiles of the shiniest, newest, awesomest machines around.   We don't.   Machines cost money, and much like most users, we replace them when they become badly outdated, or they break.

And the Min Spec is a dual-core.   There is no equivalent single-core to a dual core.   They can have similar process speeds/memory/etc... but they never have multiple cores.   Most games these days will use multiple cores - any game that is launched on the consoles simultaneously/before the PC HAS to use multiple cores, or they wont function on the consoles - and most games these days are multi-platform.

Most users have multi-core machines, and are unaffected by this issue.

That said, we don't want people with single core machines to be unable to play the game except in ironman mode, so we're going to fix it.

We're working on it.  We know what the problem is, and we're fixing it.

Sending anything out to the public involves several steps which are out
of our control.  If  we say we will have a patch on Day X, kick it into
the pipe on schedule, and there's a problem downstream from us... we get
the flak for it.

You're never going to get any ETA out of us other than "we're working on it", because if it's off by even a little bit, everyone freaks out even more.   We've been through that dance in the past.  You are either angry because we're not telling you much... or you're really angry because "we lied about putting something out on X date".  We can't win.

Would you guys be happier if someone stopped into every thread every day saying "Still working on it"?  It doesn't really accomplish anything.

"I dunno, WOULD I?!?" says the petulant customer with a legitimate issue who honestly doesn't give a toss about your problems.

Your kung-fu is weak, son.  The entire response should have been this:

We are working on the problem for single core machines as well.  We've identified the problem and remain confident that it will be resolved but cannot give an ETA just yet.  We are working right now to resolve this as quickly as we can and will keep you updated.  As gamers ourselves, we understand how inconvient this is and appreciate your patience.

Every three days or so you pipe in with something like this:

We are continuing to address this problem and others currently faced by our users.  Progress is made daily and resolution to these issues is our top priority.  We apologize for the inconvience this has caused and thank you for your continued patience.

Also toss in a comment in response to something someone wrote so they know you're actually reading what they're writing and not just giving canned robo-responses.  Give them only what they need, keep it short, stay polite, don't fish for sympathy, and don't let your own frustration color what you say.  And yeah, it's a load of BS.  But so was yours and any response you give that isn't "here's where you download the patch."

Well, I finally wiped about 30 hours in.

This is enough to make me rethink my moderate response to this issue.

I'm refusing the play the game until the save game issue gets fixed. :P I don't want to go ironman through the entire thing only to have nothing to show for it.

I appreciate the response, Nathan. Although I would have liked an ETA, I really just wanted to know if single-core processor users were going to get a bone tossed to them. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll just have to be patient now and hope that my Spring Break doesn't end before the fix comes out.

Nathan,

Can we at least get an idea of the sort of time frame we can expect on this? Are we talking days, weeks, or months?

I'd really like to get a playthrough done before everyone assumes everything that happens in-game is common knowledge, making it much more difficult to avoid spoilers.

Nathan talks about not being able to win when it comes to giving some sort of guidance as to when a patch/workaround will be available. We're not seeking a definitive time, Nathan - just some sort of guidance. The E in ETA stands for "estimated". That's what we want, an estimate. Today-ish? Tomorrow? Next week? Next month? Just a rough idea would be nice.

Personally, I've been waiting since the announcement of DA2, and I don't think another week or another month tacked on will make a difference. Besides, after a while you get used to freshly-released games having some sort of issue. I don't regret my purchase in the slightest. Thumbs up to Bioware for working on a fix when, according to the recommended specs, they don't have to.

They don't have to provide a fix? Of course they do. The product DOES NOT WORK properly, irrespective of the recommended specs. The argument that you waited a while and are prepared to wait longer doesn't fly. Ther reality is they promoted and shipped a product with a critical problem. That's not good enough.

"We're working on it" is the equivalent to swimming in the millions of money made from DA2.

I'll believe the "we're working on it" bull**** once the fix comes out.

Okay, this confuses me. I do not have the specs to the play the game (I thought I did, but I don't), I apparently only have a single processor. EVERYTHING but saving works perfectly, graphics, game play, music, everything. The only thing that it won't let me do is save. It seems a little bit weird that the only reason they need a duo processor is so that you can save the game.
