I somehow got through most her quests say for one. "A New Way" Whenever I got to her...er...shack she just repeats the generic statement for Act III. Or maybe there is something I need to do.

I'm really torn. I am tempted to actually start the game over and hope the glitch doesn't take this time around. But not knowing exactly what caused it (I suspect it may be pushing Merrill's friendship too high prior to the Deep Roads) there's no guarantee I won't end up in the same situation.

Heh...that's a lot less shallow then why I want to start over. I messed up on the relationship thing so I didn't get to nibble on Merrill's ears. I MUST NIBBLE THEM!!

Admitedly, if the glitch does affect her romance, that would be my second reason for starting over!

Had the same problem. Merrill talking about thinks we didn't discuss. But I was able to complete her questline and was able to romance her completly. However in the end it said I was with Isabela.

Isabela left and never returned, and when she left I gained 20 friendship with her. I'm thinking that perhaps there is a second glitch here. Or the same, and it is causing problems to both Merrill and Isabela quests/ending.

I refused to give Merrill the tool after her first companion quest. We quickly became rivals. However, I still romanced her at the very beginning of Act 3. We had several fights (where I flirted ceaselessly, mostly because my Hawke can be a bit of an ass). I honestly did not think she would fall for my character because of our rivalry--so I figured, why not flirt? Then she shows up at my house one day and... well... romance...

My problem was when I went to her house, she started talking about how I was always right, then she shattered the mirror... and I had NO idea what half the things she was saying were all about. We never released any demons or anything... I still haven't gotten another quest from her. I'm not sure if they got my save flag right or not, because I couldn't decode what she was saying.

Has anyone had problems after finishing her Act 3 quest? I can't get her follow up "Friend of Foe" quest to appear.

She can shatter that think!?!? I'll antagonize her on my next playthrought. Perhaps what she said to you is meant like that. Without revealing her plan and all.

I just did her "A New Path" quest, and now I'm supposed to talk to her (as per the "Questioning Beliefs" companion quest for her), yet the conversation won't trigger. She just complains about holes still in her roof.

Great, it's Sigrun all over again. Hopefully someone will figure out what quest or action triggers this particular glitch so that it can be avoided until a proper patch it made, if ever. Hopefully it's a minor quest like the one that screwed with Sigrun's and not something huge like which decision you make in one of the main quests.

New Glitch: After I did questioning beliefs with Merril, I talked to her again and it triggered the END of her quest, where she destroys her mirror! So I have to complete the Pride Fall quest, and when I do, she's stuck in my party! Locked in, I can't remove her! The ****ty thing is that I can't do Zevran's quest now! I HATE MERRIL!!!

I'm having the same issue on PC.  She's locked in my party, which is extremely frustrating because I don't like her and never use her :P

I'm having another issue altogether. I got through the pride demon on Sundermount, only when I returned to her house the dialogue that triggered was her talking about how Pol ran away from her during the Varterral fight. And there's no subsequent dialogue after it - no mention about how we wound up wrecking her clan and how Marethari is gone. And I never got the Pol dialogue before that, either, so I'm betting there's a few others I've missed here and there. Not to mention the all-important ones about the events at Sundermount.

Alright. So.
I just got finished killing the Pride demon and Marethari. We walked out, got attacked by the first band of Dalish, killed them and moved on. She repeated that it must have been a bad dream and then I took the shortcut which took me back to the camp. The Dalish there attacked us, we killed them, then nothing. Merrill doesn't say another word. Now she's locked into my party and I have no idea what else to do. All my quest log says is to go back to her house and speak with her. Went, and there's not quest icon or anything, just her talking about her roof. I can't get rid of her, which sucks ass seeing as I only ever use Isabella, Varric and Anders. Is there any help for me, by chance?

Something is definitely dodgy with her quest. You kill her entire clan and the next time you see her she is complaining that her house isn't clean. That is way out of character for her and it breaks the game immersion for a bit.

The interwebs say that if she's locked into your party, you can try talking to her at YOUR home instead of hers. But yeah, this is glitched up -- I was romancing Isabela, not her, but was Full Friends with Merrill by the end of Act 2, so when the Act 3 Questioning Beliefs rolled around before her personal quest, that was... hella confusing.

I can't believe QA let a love-interest-related bug THIS BIG through.

Just giving my input here. Playing on PC and Merrill is the only one I've done any romance options with.

Everything went nice and smooth up until Act 3. I had several talks with her, all in a nice logical order. I asked her to move in, had some more talks.

At the beginning of Act 3, I get 2 different quests to talk with her. The first ("The New Place") directs me to talk with Merrill at my place. When I do this, she says she's going out for a bit. This seems pretty normal for a logical progression. The second quest ("A Talking To") tells me to speak with her in her home. When I go to do this, immediately on entering I get the scene where she is crying about the people being gone (which is NOT the quest) and should come much later. However, AFTER that scene, I can then talk to her again to complete "A Talking To", in which Varric is telling her to get out more and Merrill tells me she thinks she's close to fixing the mirror.

I kept a save from before I talked to her in Act 3 and just rushed to her quest by talking with her, then doing On The Loose, and then going to talk with her again. The quest worked fine, but I didn't get any new dialogue when I returned to her home. I suspect in my case it's a bad flag on that particular dialogue (and hopefully, since I technically did talk to her about it it'll reflect it later...)

If anything new happens later on, I'll post in this thread as an update.

There is a fix if you use the console:

Same here. I got all the way through "A New Path" and "Pride's End" and managed to get out of the Dalish camp without killing them all, and now under Companion Quests it has a listing for "Questioning Beliefs" that says to talk to her at her house, but it doesn't trigger. I've tried it 8 ways to Sunday and she just keeps complaining about her roof. BTW - I'm on a PS3. WTF...

This happened when I withheld the mystical carving knife of plot insignificance (it doesn't help her finish the mirror any faster anyway, so just give it to her...), she busted the mirror at the start of Act III and initially I took it as a response to me not letting her fix it. But it was a glitched plot flag, after all.

Well, at least in Origins the worst plot-shuffle glitch I encountered only affected my online profile.

I can get through the chain easily enough despite the post-Sundermount convo firing at the start of the act, but after killing the Pride Demon and dealing with the clan nothing happens. Is anything supposed to happen after that bugged dialog or is that it? And can I get it to fire properly using the console?

I take that back. I completed a few other quests and went back to her house and it triggered.

The "console fix" above does not correct the misplaced scene in any way, shape, or form. All it does is force the act 3 quest to start.

Count me among those for whom her quest is bugged. I got her to close to 100% rivalry before Act 3, refused to help her with the first stage of the mirror quest, and at the beginning of Act 3, I got the cutscene where she broke the mirror. Then at the end of Act 3, she said in her final Questioning Beliefs quest, "I found a way to cleanse the mirror," and I was like, WTF - you broke that piece of junk a long time ago!"
