Me too :S
start of act 3, merril is in my home with a quest icon above her head but she just repeats a line about sandal watching her.
I go to her home and get an auto cutscene of her crying at the mirror about someone being really gone and her clan will kill her if they see her etc...

then another scene is availble with her and varric talking about her getting out of the house more.

baffled.

im on 360 btw

i assume im now totally borked?
i fully romanced merril by the end of act 2.
my last save before all this was just before the Arishok fight.
cba restarting that tbh.

You're not broken. The scene with Merril crying is played out of sequence for nearly everyone, it seems. I've yet to see someone say "Oh, the Merril romance dialogs played out perfectly chronologically for me."

Just giving my input here. Playing on PC and Merrill is the only one I've done any romance options with.

Everything went nice and smooth up until Act 3. I had several talks with her, all in a nice logical order. I asked her to move in, had some more talks.

At the beginning of Act 3, I get 2 different quests to talk with her. The first ("The New Place") directs me to talk with Merrill at my place. When I do this, she says she's going out for a bit. This seems pretty normal for a logical progression. The second quest ("A Talking To") tells me to speak with her in her home. When I go to do this, immediately on entering I get the scene where she is crying about the people being gone (which is NOT the quest) and should come much later. However, AFTER that scene, I can then talk to her again to complete "A Talking To", in which Varric is telling her to get out more and Merrill tells me she thinks she's close to fixing the mirror.

I kept a save from before I talked to her in Act 3 and just rushed to her quest by talking with her, then doing On The Loose, and then going to talk with her again. The quest worked fine, but I didn't get any new dialogue when I returned to her home. I suspect in my case it's a bad flag on that particular dialogue (and hopefully, since I technically did talk to her about it it'll reflect it later...)

If anything new happens later on, I'll post in this thread as an update.

This is exactly the sequence that it happened for me.  Except I didn't save after the confusing crying then talkinga bout the mirror after it was gone bit...So I'm currently saved before all that nonsense in Act III.  I'm going to try this console fix tomorrow.

for me actually she became locked into my party after the new path quest but after visiting Hawke's estate i was able to choose my party freely once more... tis still strange nevertheless, a bug that must be fixed

It's a pain, no doubt, when she's locked in your party. But I did Varric's "Haunted" quest and it replaced her with him. Afterwards, I was free to switch out everyone. Fixable with ally questlines, but still annoying.

I just did her "A New Path" quest, and now I'm supposed to talk to her (as per the "Questioning Beliefs" companion quest for her), yet the conversation won't trigger. She just complains about holes still in her roof.

I'm having the same issue on PC.  She's locked in my party, which is extremely frustrating because I don't like her and never use her :P

I just had the same issue tonight. It didn't happen the first few times I played, where she was a friend. However, tonight, she ended up as a rival (I don't know if they're linked or not) and now Merrill won't talk to me, despite the next quest for her in my journal being to talk to her in her home.
