I SERIOUSLY HATE THE NEW ELF DESIGN!!  No, my caps lock isn't broken.  They look terrible to me. They're paper thin with weird noses and exaggerated ears. I for one can't wait until someone cracks the files to allow modding or Bioware updates the toolset. This game sorely lacks customization...and badly needs it!

No argument there, most of the Elves ... ugh. I mean, I can understand the city Elves arent supposed to be as 'sleek' as the dalish elves. And that Elves in Ferelden arent as "pretty" as the classic Tolkien Elves. However, they need to have SOME grace about them, even if its a harsher look to indicate what they've lost. Right now, they have NONE. Though I must admit, I like the image for Fenris.

They are not supposed to be human.

I personally think the elves look fantastic. A much needed improvement over Origins, where the Elves looked human but for their tattoos/pointed ears.

I like the design pretty well, it kinda made the encounter with Marethari pretty nifty for some reason. But that elf in the Blooming Rose for that Ninette quest... yeah, his eyes creep me out. I totally passed on that one.

I love the new elf design. I hated that they were simply humans with pointy ears in DA:O. Now they have a distinct physionomy--great!

Oh... they're elves? I thought they were some kind of Romulan-Na'vi mixed race.

And if you missed the sarcasm... no, I don't think much of the "new" elves. The DA1 elves were fine as they were, IMO.

Well, I do think the elves needed to look a bit more different than the humans in the first game.

However, I do think that they took it too far in this game. So somewhere in between would be good. Hopefully a talented modder/artist will give it to us.

Even in the books, the elves are supposed to be widely desired by humans for their grace and beauty, so much so that King Maric cheated on his queen with one. I can't see that happening with the way they look now.

Whoever said they were supposed to look human? IMO, they aren't attractive in any sense. They took the look too far. Take the Qunari change. Now they look great...and they don't look human either. The look suits them well. Sten was just a large, dark skinned human in my book. Elves are supposed to be fierce warriors, tough, proud...etc For me, this new look hardly says any of those things. Even a cute furry bunny could take them! MODS PLEASE!!!!

I agree with this post. Elves look dumb, design it is important. Even in ugliness must be some beauty in craeting and scary or horrifing character. And I love elves, I feel disappointed by this awaful interpetration of elves.

I doubt anyone will be able to pull off a "replace elf models" mod, but hey, maybe. :)
I have to agree though, not really keen on the new look elves. It's almost if they got their inspiration from the Avatar aliens, the Na'vi, but the Na'vi are a bit sexier then these amigos.

In DnD Elves are supposed to look very attractive to humans, but look at NWN 2 how Obsidian screwed them up! I think Bioware does better but still weird!

Body and face mods are standard fare these days.,,,not to mention the multitude of nudie mods that seem to pop up right away. Something should be done. Looking at all these bone thin unattractive elves is seriously dragging poor Hawke down, and he has enough problems as it is. Side note: Our mage warden is a relative. Cute isn't it?

There's no mods for DAO base face meshes since no one quite figured out how to generate one that'd actually work in the game.

It's only a matter of time before someone figures it out.

Sure; i'm just noting DAO has been around for more than a year yet it remains unsolved, so it may take quite a while. On the other hand, DAO morph bases were less controversial so there was less incentive to mess around with doing tools specifically for this one task.

I'm not sure I'm following you. DOA has face and body swapping a plenty.

The face mods for DAO were just regular morphs i.e. slight modifications which all relied on default, base head shapes. But if someone wanted to really modify the facial structure of DA2 elves, it'd require making not such morphs, but modification of these underlying base shapes.

It is similar to modifications done to DAO bodies, but the catch is the base head shapes are made in way which the existing tools for such shape modifications don't seem to fully support. I'd guess it's because the game engine relies on vertices of the shape to be in certain order, something the tools don't really preserve because there's no need for it when it comes to other models used by the game.

Well, I thought they looked too human in DA:O. What would you prefer that they looked like? Sten's description of them described them as lithe--would you prefer that they were muscular brutes? Obviously you wouldn't go to that extreme, but I'm unsure why their new delicate appearance means they cannot be fierce, tough, or proud; appearance is just skin-deep.

Since you mentioned the qunari--I detest the change. Or rather, I agree that Sten was inadequate but they've now taken the change way too far.

You might say our positions are precisely reversed.

As far as I'm concerned I like my elves more human. Slender humans, with pointy ears.
I don't detest the new design, I can live with it, but every time I speak to an elf I just cant overlook those freaking big eyes and these awful ears.
And their noses are just too Na'vi for me.

Will I be modding this?
I don't know. If a mod comes out that changes them slightly, e.g. smaller eyes and no freaking straight nose (at least not that straight), maybe. If it compeltely redoes the elves probably not, as fcking with the lore too much is not my intent.
That said, some of the elves are really, really, really ugly. And I donÄt mean 'I had a hard life and it show's'-ugly, but 'I was born in russian atomic reactor'-ugly. To my delight this seems to be the exception.

Yeah, that is my opinion and yes, it seems that I can't decide weather to hate the design or let it be.

Lithe is one thing. Starving is something else. They look weak to me, and they aren't very attractive either. By all accounts they are supposed to be desirable to humans...according to DOA lore. Maybe for you this look works. For me, I HATE it! The Qunari are SUPPOSED to look imposing, threatening, and fearsome. This they nailed. I never said the elves should be "muscular brutes" as you put it but do they have to look like sheep? Appearance is skin deep in life, not in a video game where the way someone or something appears IS everything. Look at the hoopla created over the new look that was made for Infamous 2. The company swithced the guy back because of fan outcry. It's happening again with DMC....I hope because this new Dante is the pits!. Better still, check the mod sites and see which mods have been downloaded the most. We are all entitled to our own opinons but to suggest looks don't matter in a video game? Problem solver: MODS. That way you can keep these horrid weakling elves, and I can look elswhere for something more suitable towards my tastes.

So, hang on a second: if I had a bad video card and played the game on minimal settings, then the qunari wouldn't look excellent to you? I was pointing out that the elves' appearance has nothing to do with whether they could be fierce, tough, and proud. These are entirely different metrics.

Elves are also reviled by humans according to the lore: and your harsh reaction shows this goal was accomplished in spades.

In a video game the only way to convey any of those characteristics is through appearance, especilly in an NPC. The sentiment about the elves was the same in DOA, at least that was the case with some, not all......but what does that have to do with anything? I wasn't complaining about the look then because mods fixed whatever problem anyone would have with character appearance. I hated the look of Zevran. He was at the top of my hitlist. This is why we need modding.
