I dont understand the rush some people have with these games...they are designed to be played immersively, patiently. Its like watching a film but fast forwarding to the action sequences for some people.
I think anyone who has finished already since release either has waaaaaaay too much time on thier hands or have rushed through the game without stopping to enjoy the lore, scenery, character development and relationships properly.
Quite right, I had too much free time and was impatient. However, fast forwarding to the action sequences was the exact opposite of what I did. At the beginning I found combat too challenging, sometimes utterly frustrating, so I switched to easy to get done with it. I wanted to continue the storyline that had me soaked in completely, and after a while most combat was simply an annoyance that kept me from getting what I really want. So I switchred back to easy, tried to get the combat done as fast as possible, but took much more time to explore the other sides of the game, talked to NPCs and companions, all the things that are really great in DA. I didn't want to beat the game, quite the opposite, I wanted more and more story. Now I'm a junkie on cold turkey and will probably restart.

I completed the game with the following:
54% completion, 63hrs, mostly on normal mode (probably 3-4 hours could be taken off due to me walking away from the PC)
world explored - 95%
conversations initiated - 1434
codex entries - 247
overly sidetracked achievement - over 75% quests completed
I don't feel like I rushed through the game, the only thing I didn't really spend much time doing was reading the codex. I'm guessing that's some extra time that could be added.
It's an amazing game, but overall I wish it had more world content. Also, the dwarf city could have been bigger I thought, especially the slums. I really liked the Elven ruins, but agree the Dalish area/quests seemed slim even though they're suppose to be a nomadic group.
Maybe the other 50% of the content I missed is just the origins quests and the codex...

anywho everyone needs to keep in mind what Spyre2001 pointed out. the average length of games in recent years has shortened drasticly from the great games of old such as Baulder's Gate .... the average game that comes out now is considered "long" at 20 hours, most run less. console games especially suffer from this. DA:O is a nice game getting back to gaming roots with 40+ hour games.
my first play through was done in the mid 30 hours (i made beyond lvl 19 but some reason my first toon shows as only 19 anyhow that short time period comes from me skipping pretty much all the side quests, i never took any of the mage or mercenary side quests and didn't complete any of the chanter board quests after lothering. likewise i missed out on most of the party member side quests. i have no doubt that had i taken the time to do the side quests, it would have taken me FAR longer to finish the game .... my second play through is of course taking a longer path.

Also just cause the guy's profile hasn't updated doesn't mean anything. I finished the game on wendsday with my warrior at level 22, but his profile still shows as level 15.

I wouldn't trust the stats on peoples' profiles on this site. It has issues and my own characters have not updated for days.
Normally I'd agree except for the fact that his were updated on 11-15 at 23:44 or something like that..so fairly recently.

Makes no difference when it was updated, the updates just don't work properly for some people. My first playthrough I finished as a 23 Mage and for the longest time (maybe even now still) my profile shows him as level 12 (and the xml story file in My Docs has the same). For some reason, the game just stopped updating his story. As for achivements, if I goto my profile and refresh it'll alternately list all the ones I have, or just 2 (Harrowing/Survived Ostagar)... so yeah, don't base opinions on the profile information, its not exactly reliable.

So, it took me 38 leisurely hours, not the advertised 80, to get to the throne room after downing the Archdemon, chat with everyone, and realise that the game was over. My character sheet says that I've completed 53% of the game, despite the fact that I've done almost all of the sidequests, and completed the main story.
I'm not expecting it to be a bug or anything, but I can't help feeling - wasn't that a bit short? I was expecting more. I mean, I was thinking about it from the perspective of the size and scale of the original NWN. It had five 'acts', and each act, there were 3-4 sub areas with that formed parts of the main quest. Sure, there are a few hours of playtime in a place such as the Deep Roads, or the Mage Tower + Fade, but the Elven forest was tiny and extremely linear. I've finished the game, and I've felt like i've barely completed the equivalent of one or two acts from NWN. So, basically, we had to recruit 4 groups, roll around Denerim, then engage in the final battle. Not much to that.
I meet sound needy, but it just wasn't enough for me. Sure, the great moddability of the game should spawn plenty of modules, but I still reckon there was a lot lacking from the depth of the main story. I was so sure I'd end up at the black citadel in the fade at some point, was so sure I'd chase after Morrigan and sort out Flemeth, and (unrelated) was a bit disappointed that I didn't get werewolves to support me in the final battle.
Ah well. Going to play torchlight until some real DLCs/modules come out
lol I don't know what you people are doing I'm well past 80 hours on my first character I've got much more completed than you and I still have a quest log filled with quests.

I'm verry happy with the content, I just wish the main quest was bigger and the number of sidequests smaller (take out the annoying ones typical of MMOs). But I guess we are in the generation where western RPGs are being cut short for the casual audience. I spent 65 hours in ME to do every single stuff in it, even though I enjoyed it a lot, it felt short. Oh, and about Persona 3: FES, 120 hours for the 1st playthrough, 80 hours for the 2nd for the unlockable stuff. That was both long and very enjoyable.

Also the different avenues you can take also extend the game, I played a city elf warrior , this time ill take the human noble route. I dont count difficulties in any game as an extention, I buy games to have fun and get lost in the storyline , much like other view reading a book. I dont think I should have to reload every 10 minutes cuz the battles are so hard. I dont play RPGs for this, now the puzzles and such , im all about.
Ill save my frustration for Hard mode WoW.

I took an hour to just get to know all the people in the noble human quest. The cook, the old libarian, the guards in the treasury, your mum and dad. All the people and places and nooks and crannies that you could find there.
I had a real sniffle or two at the point where I have to leave them both. They were so brave and valiant, and tragic. Just carrying on being the nobles they were.
I actually stopped and read the books, interacted with the old historian and learned of my family beginnings. It gave me some insight into Howle's mindset since we had beat his great-greats for a time and he was envious.
This made it rich for me, gave me opportunity to experience the world the writers were creating.
Rushing through a game just doesn't give it the attention it deserves, have you played all the starting quests?
The noble dwarf quest is very interesting, completely unforseen, it was a shocker. The mage quest was interesting and not as dramatic as some of the others.
I played the Bride in the city elf starting story and it totally rocked. I gutted that rotten baaahstard for raping my friend who strangely had all her clothes on. Oh well too much realism is a bad thing.
Some quests gave me pause, should I kill Morrigan's mom? The harmless old bat couldn't hurt a fly. Currently I am playing a bad rogue heh
I kinda want Morrigan to be eaten by her mom. At least her mom was civil.
This game is too good to rush through it and say its done, where is the next. I must have played every single combination in Baldurs gate one. This game is just as good.
