Was playing the game today, with multiple issues in regards to graphics (torch fires hanging under the torches in the Chantry, characters images jumping up and down during cutscenes, etc etc) and then suddenly it froze. I waited a few minutes and then put my hand over the systems' vent to check if it was overheating, and suddenly the disk started to sputter and move around inside of the system for no apparent reason, there was no overheating,  I didnt even touch the system

There's now a perfect ring scratch going around the center of my Signature Edition disc.... disc is unreadable....

Help? :crying:

Hmm.
I would say it's a defect with your xbox. I have the same xbox slim and haven't had this issue, load times ARE longer than when I started, but i haven't overheated.

Wow...I have all the same problems, only I don't have that scratch ring on the disc...yet. I've been playing Resident Evil 5 and Fable 3 on this xbox 360 slim without any trouble...only DA2 has been giving me problems so far.

EDIT: I haven't had any overheating, just the odd graphics during cutscenes and the disc unreadable that pops up here and there.

My Xbox360 Slim has worked fine with every other game I own - DA:O, Awakening, Halos 2,3,ODST,Reach, Elder Scrolls, L4D1&2, etc etc

It's only DA2 that this has happened with. I am most displeased. I've had the game for all of two days and now I can't play it anymore. I can't get another signature edition without paying a couple of hundred on Ebay... I've got the codes and the DLC and all already on my profile, but the game itself is shot.

I cringe whenever I hear about someone buying a game online because it seems it would be so hard to get a replacement. Hopefully this is being looked into quickly about why DA2 (and perhaps with the slim 360) are having issues. I would install it on the USB drive I use, but I'm not sure how large of a file size the game would be.

I didn't get the game online, I bought it at Gamestop. Preordered back in October.

I think I'm screwed though, they'll say it's a system issue and thus not entitled to replacement.

Yes, since there's that scratch on it that you mentioned, it would be the system's fault by my guess. All the other issues however, sound like the manufacture has some problem solving to to. GameStop can only replace the disc and I'd be dismayed if something any problems still persisted.

Gamestop won't replace the disc, just looked at the policy on replacements.

Yeah, there goes my tri-monthly gaming allowance into the toilet

The scratched ring on the disc trough the replacement out the widow? I read that would mean a deal breaker. What about your system? How old is it and do you have a warranty of any kind? No need to really answer those questions, I just hope we get some kind of update about the issues a lot people are having with DA2...performance wise that is.

Yeah, because there is a ring scratch on the disc after I opened it and played it, it's a fault of my system. Thus, I cannot get it replaced for free by the Gamestop I bought it from -- I'd have to buy a new copy (which would not be the Signature Edition unless I spent 200+ on Ebay). My system is 3 months old, Xbox 360 Slim with a 250GB hardrive. It has a warranty AND it's working fine on every other game I own (ive been going through testing on Origins after it happened)

I dunno, maybe it was just a hiccup. Regardless, I'm screwed.

If you can provide any other information such as where it was occurring or what you were doing around the time you experienced this issue or anything else you can think of it will help a lot when we try to reproduce it in the studio. As a side note, you can simply use a regular edition version of the game and log-in to the account with all the SE entitlements and that will work fine.

Seriousness aside, it sounds like your system is possessed by demons. Were you using blood magic while playing??? ^_^

I'm not sure about his case, but for me, all but one of the disc not being readable errors occurred during loading (where the game was loading to was always different). I'm thinking it's something with DA2 and the slim version of the 360, but other than that, I don't know.

I'm going ahead and installing the game onto the USB drive I use for all my 360 stuff. I'm gonna have to get a new drive with more space soon if I can't use my disc. Hopefully I can transfer everything from one drive to another without having to be signed into LIVE all the time.

I already used my DRM usage by switching to the slim model and transferring everything to the USB drive from my HDD; both of which have the same storage space, perhaps one of those plugs to use on the HDD instead of a brand new USB would be cheaper?.

EDIT: If we had the normal disc, we'd have to be signed in in order to have access to the signature edition content? I'd hate to have to have my console connected to the internet all the time while playing if it can be avoided.

@Luke Barrett

I was sitting across the room going through the area "Abandoned Passageway" found by going through a grate in the night-time area of the Docks. If it helps there was a salesman there by the name of Jem where I bought a silverite enchanted belt. I had just killed a group of thugs who tried to jump me and went to go loot one when the visuals froze for an instant - I could still hear the background music, could still hear the sounds of nighttime etc etc but the visuals were stuck on the looting screen. I hit the center button on my console to see if I could call up the Xbox Interface and get to the dashboard to see if that helped. It wouldnt pop up on the screen though I could hear the sound. Confused, I walked over to where my xbox is sitting on its side and put my hand over the vent to see if there was an excess of heat - Ive never had an overheating problem on this xbox 360 slim, but it happened frequently enough on my original Xbox 360 that I thought it might be an initial problem to check. There was heat, but nothing it didnt normally emit, so I figured that wasnt the problem. I went to go touch the side to see if the hardrive had slipped loose and caused the system to pull a "derp"

Suddenly, the machine started to splutter and I could hear the disc rolling around and clunking against something inside the disc tray. I panicked and hit the power off button and waited a minute before opening the tray. Pulled the game out and it had the perfect circular scratch going around about halfway between the outer edge of the disc and the center.

The character images jumping during the cutscenes occurred specifically...... Merill kept disappearing during the actual gameplay of Sundermount but would show up in each new area after a cutscene required her presence. Isabelas image kept skipping during the first cut scene when she asks you to meet her in Hightown. Fenris outside of the Manor after I recruited him. When Anders goes Vengence mode, the blue glow of the eyes is resting around his mouth.... Oh! and in the Chantry when you get confronted by Hayder, the flames for the torches were panning around the room during the cutscene before settling under the torch holder things on the wall.
~~~~~~~~~~
Problem is, I'd have to come up with 59.99 to spend on a new regular edition - I bought the SE by saving up for 5 months after putting the 5 dollars down and I dont exactly have a load of excess money so that's off the table until I can find a job (and as I've been looking since September I'm not holding my breath on an immediate replacement.)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
....Do you work with the Chantry? :bandit:

A blood mage? Me? Perish the thought...... :whistle::devil: (*points to sig*)

I happened to look at my disc with an LED light and I see a very faint circle line close the center of the disc, I could only see it by shining the light on it.

It doesn't seem anything like examples of scratches caused by the system which are further from the center and seem to have more then one pronounced line. Perhaps my disc just suffered an oops during burning and packaging?

Even though GameStop would replace the game and it is stated the replacement would be the same item, I fear I would end up with a non signature edition disc.

Roughly how long were you playing (without restarting the game) before this happened? When you say on it's side I assume you mean the disc slot was running horizontal instead of the normal vertical?

I always have my systems in the horizontal position, I always fear I'll knock the system over somehow otherwise. I never had any of the strange sounds that are reported from the system scratching the disc.

I successfully installed the game onto my USB drive but didn't spend more than a minute playing as it's late. I can say however that loading times are shortened. Before, when playing from the disc, even loading the party selection screen took about 3 to 4 seconds instead of being instant like it does now that I installed it onto the drive.

If a simple disc replacement would solve the problem, then that's all good a fine, I just hope I can get another signature edition disc as that was what I paid for and GameStop says identical item in their replacement clause (but don't me wrong, I'm not stupid when it comes to loopholes or workarounds, just making a statement).

EDIT: When I say loopholes and workarounds, I ment GameStop trying to diving me a similar item (standard edition), not identical (signature edition).

You're supposed to play vertical? I thought it was designed to be able to do that but not optimally. I've had way too many times where the system falls if vertical (and I'm sure if I was playing my kinetic games the risk would be even higher) to play any other way than horizontal.

Anyway, I've got the sign. edition, but been playing my brother's regular on the 360 slim, so not sure if I'd be experiencing the same issues or not, but right now the only annoying glitch is the floating heads. (They've got no body rendered) Seems like a majority are in Ander's place, so maybe a mage thing, not sure.

@Luke

I had been playing the game for roughly 2 hours when the issue manifested. And yes, I had the disc slot lying horizontal. However, the manual for the slim says that both work fine, and it's actually vertically that I had issues on my old xbox with the disc slipping and such. I too was also afraid that it'd be knocked over by one of the animals that wander my house...

Regardless, the disc tray being horizontal has never been a problem for me before, only with this game.

Same here, only this game seems to have an issue. Plus, what you said about the body's not showing up, only floating heads, is similar to the fact that in my game, sometimes, it would seem the whole model itself wouldn't show up right away.

Sometimes, my party members would start fighting something that I could see on the map, but could not see the enemy itself. Also, it seems like the effects for spells would also be lagging sometime, and the game itself would even freeze lag for a second as if it was having a hard time loading the effects or something.

My guess is there was something about the disc that was causing the system to have a hard time reading it, therefore causing long loading time and the lag in character models and spell effects here and there; which then leads to the disc unreadable error.

<3I don't hold any ill will towards BioWare though, everything now and then fluke things just happen and hopefuly they can be fixed or replaced to make everything peachy. <3

Because I did not know if it would read the files with the new disc - Ive had to get a new disc for a gamebefore and it kept reading the DLC wrong and not loading the game. *shrugs*

Regardless, 100 or 60, it's money I do not have available to me.

I'm having the issue with the flickering in the cutscenes, as well. I have an xbox 360 slim with the system on its side. It doesn't happen every cutscene, but it's rather often that it does happen. I hope it isn't an xbox issue and can be fixed soon, I've checked my disc and there doesn't seem to be anything wrong with it.

A lot of games scratch easier if you have your Xbox standing up instead of laying down flat. So how do you have your box sitting. I put mine flat when I read about another game I have scratching when standing up.

And I haven't had the issues with the Slim yet with DA2 as others say they have in this thread.

Sheppard, like i said I have the xbox laying down flat to avoid issues like that. Plus, sometimes the games will fall out when you eject them. Easier just to have it lay flat.

Nuke, I did not know that that was possible. *shrugs* too late now, but at least I'll know for the future
