So I'ved started DA2 yesterday, and I am enjoying it till now, its not perfect but its pretty freaking good. One thing struck me as strange though...after I get merrill and found out that she was a blood mage, I was astounded, I couldn't let it go, when she asked to chat for the first time, I was prepared for Hawke to have the option to lay the verbal smack down on her...but there was nothing, just a friendly chat...I was like okay first conversation, one of them will probably bring it up the next time; but no such luck, I got more friendly conversation.
Now keep in mind I haven't gone on the expedition yet so no spoilers beyond that point, but please try to answer me this, will the blood mage thing ever come up again? Will there acctually be some sort of huge disagreament, or maybe even a oh I don't know a fight?

not sure about a fight but it definitely comes up in later quests especially her ambivalent nature towards demons.

Blood magic is like the main problem in 3/4ths of the games storylines, so don't worry.

It gets brought up a decent bit later on. Also if you place Anders and her in your party majority of their banter is about her use of blood magic. Anders is REALLY hard on her, though for good reasons.

She may be a blood mage, but she's an adorable blood mage. So all is forgiven. Just ask the Templars.

I am glad it isn't ignored later on, but I sure hope that I'll be able to let my character take a firm stance on the subject and not just give a passing comment then enjoy the rest of the non essential conversation like everything is as it should be.
@Freezasama
Cuteness can only take you too far, I found feeling sorry for her extremely daungting task after I found it she was a blood mage. Its a small wonder that her clan kicked her out instead of out right slaying her.

The options didn't show up for you because she bewitched you with blood magic. You should kill her now before she eats your soul.

Just saying that its nice to have the option to acctually make a stand about such a serious subject in regards to your character, let me give an example; in dragon age origins if you didn't like the way some of your companions act, you could tell them to get the hell out a camp, heck the minute you get Zev, the first or second conversation you get with him pretty much sums up how you feel about his "proffession".
But with Merrill its like the hero willfuly forgot about this, even when it happened right in front of him, by no means am I saying that the game sucks or anything, I just find it odd, especially in a bioware game where the relationship between the characters is one of its strong points.

You may have to be a rival.

Seems like it, ya can't please everyone in this game, which really makes it fun.

I'm a rival and I must say, my character gives her a fair deal of BS. Doesn't attack her at every corner, but pretty openly disagrees.

Good, its nice to know that the player has the option to make their character spill it out to her, and not be forced to ignore it, for the sake of the plot, rivalery here I come.

One of the major flaws with the game is that magic is just . . . ignored. The beginning of the game makes it sound like it is going to be a hard time in Kirkwall because of all the templars. That is not the way it plays though.
You OPENLY use magic in front of templars, guards, Templar Commanders, etc. and no one says anything. Heck, the first time you arrive in Kirkwall you go super nuke on the rioters at the doorstep of the Circle Tower - and you are let go. You make comment that you checked a guy for demonic possession and he was okay - and you are told basically 'Oh, interesting, okay well thanks, here is your money'.

I thoroughly enjoyed yelling at her about blood magic. I liked her at first until her ignorance just became too much to deal with. She gets hers in the end.
