Yep, updates solve a lot of problems but then I have several EA titles and have learned that when it comes to EA games, Update everything you can w/o it costing you for new hardware, reset everything, remove mods, make sure firewall is off or each EA item is a specific exception, clear any chaches, be that game or browser, try it again. If that fails, double check your hardware, then when all is good - ask tech for help :) Oh and after that be patient, tech is busy and it might be hard to fix - one issue I had with another EA title took nearly 9 months, countless emails, tests and posts with info to get fixed but, it did finally get fixed.

Well, I did two things today: resetted/updated my password at EA and reinstalled the game (after fully uninstalling, including registry entries etc.). I'm now able to log in, but I can't say which of those helped. :)

Traymack77- I set a temporary password and was able to login as you. I checked your DLC and it showed up authorized. Have you gone to Your registered Game Content after clicking Profile and redownloaded/reinstalled The Black Emporium or The Exiled Prince DLC?

badas43- When you say you cannot get server, do you mean you are not able to connect to the game servers to authenticate your account? If so, what error message are you getting? Have you tried to connect by disabling your antivirus program (as some can cause connectivity issues) and disabling the User Account Control (for Windows Vista/Windows 7)?

When you login, you are using the same email address and password for your BioWare forum account, correct? I once again set a temporary password and on my end was able to launch the game and sign in as you. All the DLC was authorized, including your Mage/Warrior/Rogue packs that are displayed on Your registered content list.

If you have any anti-virus software that could block or restrict your connection to the servers, that can affect the authorization of the DLC. Try to temporarily disable it or add the Dragon Age 2 launcher and executable game file to your exception list.

Also, the User Account Control for Windows Vista/Windows 7 can cause some connectivity issues. Try to disable that and see if your content becomes authorized.

I have a small problem, it isn't that I can't log in or connect. It is that I can't even connect at all.

Everytime at startup it displays that the servers are temporarily unavailable, I can't log in to even use any of the nice DLC that was coded in. DA2, its exe. and its launcher are all under exceptions in my firewall.

Thanks for the continued reports, everyone, and to EA_AgentX for the assistance.

Here's the list of still-affected users:
  • Somniloquist (EA_AgentX has been able to successfully log in with your account so it's likely tied to software interference as he suggests).
  • traymack77 (able to login but content shows as unauthorized - technically a separate issue but continue to follow-up with EA_AgentX on it. The likely culprit is that you're logging into the game and the website with different accounts).
  • shibbyg34
  • badas43
  • Tiruin
We'll investigate on our end and see if we can find anything. For your part, please follow EA_AgentX's advice regarding possible software interference. Please report back once you're up and running.

Cheers,
Rob

I'm able to connect now, I just noticed in the HOSTS file that to cancel messages saying that the "servers are temporarily unavailable", delete
127.0.0.1 gosredirector.ea.com

in the windows hosts file.

Finally got to log in!

If you are using Windows, go to Drive C, go search for "system 32" > drivers > etc. Then open hosts with notepad then delete what I said, but to be on the safe side maybe you should wait for a mod or someone with tech knowledge on your problem :)

Yes, if any ea.com servers are being blocked in the Windows HOSTS files, that will result in you being unable to connect. Thanks for reporting back, Tiruin, and I'm glad to hear you're back up and running.

I have been unable to connect with Dragon Age II for a few weeks now, and the problem seems to be there for other BioWare titles as well. The problem started after I installed and authorized Item Pack I, so for now there is no real issue, but I would like to find a solution before Legacy arrives. I haven't been able to fix the problem with the suggestions outlined in the above posts, and my firewall appears to allow full access to all titles.

Sorry if it's already posted but I have a different error message for not connecting to server. "This drive is not ready, its door may be open or it may already be in use. Please check drive A:" or something like that. Well erm..there IS no drive A: on my computer. The game works fine other than that there is no connection to server with it.

Also, my last BSN account was Gareth Venome but when i tried to access it, the network has no record of any account linked to my email address. It is possible it was created with the email address gareth.soper1@ntlworld.com to which I no longer have access.

I have now registered the game to this account but would prefer if someone could change the email address on my old acct and register the game for me there. I cannot access it as I don't remember the password. My CURRENT email address is gareth.soper@virginmedia.com

@MrMuse;

These are "player-to-player" self-help forums, with occasional announcements and interjections by BioWare staff.

Your issue should be directed to EA Customer support, "http://support.ea.com".

Good Luck!

This was an issue for some users immediately after the launch of the game and was corrected by the 1.01 PC Patch that was released within the first week after launch. We're currently on Patch 1.03 - update to that and this issue should disappear.

Hello everybody,

It seems I am encountering the issue. Where are stored DA2's logs so I can check them?

I tried changing my password, but it is just even more weird now:
1. Launching DA2, the game tells me it is unable to connect to the server
2. Going to the "connect" menu item, I can re-enter my login/password details and the game seems to connect properly
3. However quitting and launching the game again, it continues to complain that it is unable to connect to the server (see step 1)
4. Once "logged in" (or so am I told), if I start playing and creates a new saved game, then it is not done! Going to the "load" menu item shows no trace of my new saved game. Of course, automatic saved games are not done either.
5. Basically I am able to play the game by logging manually each time but am then unable to save my progression! And nothing warns me that the game could not be saved. Last week I lost several hours of gameplay that way, you can imagine it made me quite angry.

Right now I am really disappointed with Dragon Age 2. Such a bug makes me wonder if buying the game full price was such a good idea. I am also thinking that things would be much easier for everybody if logging into the server was not mandatory. (In my case, logging into the server is required to activate the "signature" edition bonus, and I am not able to load my saved games unless the said bonuses are activated.)

Bioware, thanks in advance for your help and support. Feel free to request any additional information, as I am eager to solve the issue and to be able to play the game again!

The log file should be in your /My Documents/BioWare/Dragon Age 2/ directory. It's usually in the Logs subdirectory and is called DragonAge_1.log.

The behavior you're experiencing is clearly abnormal (if this were a common issue, there'd be people with torches and pitchforks pressed against my office window!). We'll do our best to work with you to identify and address the problem. Copy and paste the error code from your log file and that should help us dig a little deeper.

DazzyD, can you describe the specific issue you're encountering? Also, what patch are you using? What edition of the game do you have? If it's a download edition, who did you download it from (EA Origin, Steam, etc).?

Thanks,
Rob
