Hi,

I am experiencing a similiar problem. The copy of DA2 which I bought this week won't activate. On entering my EA account information the game tells me check my internet connection or wait because servers may be down for the time being.
I think I thoroughly searched the forum and gave every attempted solution a chance: patched the game (first 1.01 then 1.03), installed .NET 4.0, deactivated UAC as well as Windows Firewall and Avira Antivirus, edited the Windows hosts file, unchecked the automatic connection settings in IE8, ran the game from the Administrator account... Anyhow, I am still not able to activate my copy of the game.
I also contacted EA Support, but as they are busy with BF3 BETA I don't expect an answer any time soon. Is there possibly another solution to the problem? Since as I understand it, it shouldn't even occur with patch 1.01 installed.

Cheers!

Dag

I just bought DAII from Direct 2 Drive. I installed it along with the latest patch and when I try to login I get the:

"We're Sorry, an error has occurred. We are unable to connect to EA servers to activate Dragon Age II on this computer using your account. Please try again later."

The anti-virus program I use is Trend Micro Internet Security, I run on Windows XP 32-bit.

EDIT: after reading through this thread and trying different solutions I managed to get the game to work. I still can't get my anti-virus to not block EA but overall the problem is fixed by just shutting it off.

Okay. I get into the game and it lets me play just fine. However, when I go to save, the option is always grayed out. Also, in options the save automatically option is grayed out as well and cannot be activated. It's rather annoying because I can't close it without losing all my progress.

You are in the wrong thread. Read the sticky about reporting problems, and follow the directions there.  That sticky wasn't pinned here in the forum just to look pretty.  It has a real purpose.

I have played and uninstallled Dragon Age 2 some time ago. Now when I decided to play it once more I can't activate it. Product key I put in is right (I have checked it many times). The words I get are those: "The product key you provided has already been used to activate Dragon Age II. Please enter an unregistered product key to complete activation." Does that mean that to play the game I must buy a new one? (I didn't use other account to activate game 'couse I don't have another one)

Never having had the problem, I can only ask you what did you learn from the archives?

There are useful archives to search in the Social Forums (DA2):

I'm having problems logging in as well both on DA2 and DAO. I even went in and changed my password. After I did that, I was able to log in the first time, but after leaving and trying to come back, I haven't been able to connect. Not sure what's going on here, I know I don't want to have to create a new password every time I try to play the game

This seems to be happening again, at least on the Xbox.  I consistently have to change my password to be able to login.  The PS3 also had some login problems earlier today but trying to connect a couple of times got me in.  The Xbox problem is highly annoying though...  :crying:

I have the same problem. Heres what it says when I try to login or activate to play the game:

"We're sorry, an error has occured. We are unable to connect to EA servers to activate Dragon Age II on this computer using your account. Please try again later." Despite my connection being fine.

It did that first time round when I tried to activate it. So I decided to go logon to the website and activate it there. No problems there. But then when I go to play the game, same thing. I have to login. And when that failed to work after several attempts, it tells me to put in my registration key, which I already have done. Then it tells me that the key I have is incorrect. Which is strang,e since it worked when I installed it and registered it on this site.

I bought it off ebay, but it was a perfectly new game, so noone could have used the key before. Please help anyone?

Same here, can't contact servers. Bought the retail version of the game couple of days ago and can't even activate it now. I've tried most of solutions but nothing works and I'm not some Wonder woman with computers.

This message thread is in the PC Tech discussion forum, not in any console's tech forum.  Official support is on EA's Help pages, not here in this forum, and readership in these forums is cyclical, with a low ebb from May through October, when there aren't many readers to try to answer, so that searching the forum archives is what to do now (I do not mean you should just scroll downward.through multiple index pages.  Use Bing, Google, or Yahoo, and a search criteria, and add the locat redirect pointer below).

I just installed the game, registered it with my bioware account, downloaded and installed the black emporium, installed the 1.03 patch, tried to run it and then it happened. I got the "unable to connect" error and don't know what to do.

Seeing as several people are experiencing the same issue within such a small space of time, I'd say it would be a problem on EA's end, but I could be wrong.

If anyone finds a solution or discovers that it works again could you post on here? Thanks.

Had the same problem the other week when I installed my copy (retail). I instlalled the game, patched it, installed texture pack, black emporium etc. Then I tried to start it and got the error. Tried a couple of times, but failed. Then I uninstalled and reinstalled it without any patches and dlc:s. Tried to run it and it worked. Then I installed everything else. I'm not sure if it was just a coincidence, but it might be worth a shot?

I've already tried uninstalling it and running it bare-bones, but that didn't work either. From the looks of the forums, since I first started looking for a solution this has occured to many people in the last day. Not sure as to what the reason is but as it is occuring to so many at the same time I don't think it could be a rpbolem on our end.

Update: Contacted EA support, it is indeed a temporary issue with their servers. I was advised to try again after 24 hours from now.

Guess we'll have to wait :(

I guess i'll wait for a bit to see if it's some kind of temporary problem with EA servers and then i'll do the reinstalling.

Same for me.
I worked on it for about five hours, with and without EA phone support. It's their end

This is a gamer to gamer discussion area. You want EA official support, not just local volunteers. We aren't at the "Server End" of things at all.
