I think mine must be a problem with the whole gosredirector.ea.com thing, however even when I add it to my hosts file exactly how you said, disable my firewall and anti-virus, I still get "Request timed out" 4 times when I ping it using cmd.

My error is slightly different to penguins though, as I just get the "invalid email or password" message whenever I try to log in.

I've also been waiting for an e-mail from tech support since saturday...sigh...

Did you set up an EA account? Besides your bioware social account...you need both.

It logs into EA first, so I'd assume you are getting that message because you don't have an account at all with EA.

I do have an EA account, although it is the same e-mail and password as my bioware one, and I've tried contacting EA on that account, changing my password several times, but nothing seems to work. They forwarded my problem to a higher support level, but I am still waiting for an e-mail from them.

Just noticed the fact, that when trying to run the "EaCoreServer.exe" file it appears on the Task Manager's list, but after a few seconds it stops working and disappears. Also, it doesen't have any specific icon (just the "blank" one)

What do you think?

That would be the correct message for unlockables, but not DLC.  You
can't download items. Right now there are 3 things you can dowload Exile
prince, Signature Edition pack, and Black Emporium. All others will
appear in a special delievies chest in your uncles home once you reach
kirkwall.

To view unlockables go into the game under Extras, Unlockables. Ones you don't have access to will be greyed out.

You're right. I can download them. Thanks! I only clicked on one of these Unlockables and thought everywhere is the same pop up window :) so I didn't click on others :)

Would someone from BioWare *please* at least acknowledge this issue?
This is the first time I've ever been unable to even PLAY a game because it won't activate.
Even if there was some flag I could use to allow debugging of the activation application or something, or at least see what the hell it's trying to do?

I'm actually really disappointed. It appears I paid £30 for a pretty activation screen that doesn't work.

Ironically, presumably the activation and what-not were supposed to stop piracy? Considering the game was cracked before it even came out in the UK I think it's another case of the people who *bought* the thing being screwed over again, and the people who pirate having no problems at all.

Guess if I've waited 5 days I can wait a bit longer... ¬_¬

Having same problem, have EA and Bioware accounts, made sure EA related programs can get through firewall, yet it still claims I have an invalid email or password.

Still suffering from the "Dragon Age servers are temporarily unavailible" problem. The error message pops up once the game starts and trying the menu Log In button again just leads to the same result. I can play the game itself just fine, but missing out on DLC's is annoying. Have had a look around the forums several time since the release, but not been able to find anything that works for me.

I'm running a pre-ordered Steam-version of DA2 on Windows Vista.
- My Windows hosts file is clean - no references to EA or Dragon Age there.
- I'm running Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials as computer protection. Both DA2 and Steam are ticked off as allowed through the firewall. I've also tried disabling the firewall completely, but still not able to connect.

Anyone got any suggestions?

Have you tried contacting EA at all? It's been another entire day almost and i'm still waiting for an e-mail or some form of reply from them, it's getting kinda annoying. If it wasn't for the fact that i'm knee deep in coursework at the moment I'd have contacted them again several times...

If you're getting "request timed out" when you ping it:  What happens when you ping the actual IP address? i.e. "ping 159.153.235.22 "??

If you can't ping the actual IP address, which isn't specific to any port, you have a problem with the route out from your computer.  At this point it's not a port being blocked by something.  Wow, this is really lame.

For those comparing to Dragon Age: Origins, we did swap over to new
online technology for DA2 so it's not going to be a useful comparison.
For those unable to connect in DA2, can you tell me if that was also the
case for the demo? What about other EA titles from 2011?

I was unable to connect in the demo as well. I'm also unable to connect in Dead Space 2. And I'm unable to connect in Mass Effect 2, but prior to January, I having no problems with Mass Effect 2.

Didn't they take down the cerberus network? and do you have an EA account besides your Bioware social network account?

They just stopped doing news updates for it. You still have to log in to authenticate DLC, for example if you reinstall, or if you bought the new Alternate Appearance Pack. And my Bioware account is my only EA account.

BioWare, can you please list official response regarding what ports are used for DA 2?  How hard is it for a simple posting under FAQ?

I am behind Astaro Gateway (hardware firewall) and must specify the ports to open if they are not common ports.  I can not simply mark open all in and outbound connection to open for DA2.  Not everyone sits behind simple software firewall.

I can play DA Origin fine with loging in to DA server but I cannot login to DA 2 server.  I can login to DA 2 server if I completely disable firewall packet filtering under Astaro Gateway.

I have opened following ports based on various user postings from this forum without success.

8001      UDP
18081   TCP/UDP
42127   TCP
5355     UDP
8000     TCP
80         TCP/UDP
443       TCP

This posting from BioWare doesn't help much.

I've just gotten my copy of the game, am running Windows XP SP3

Have not been able to play due to the game not being able to connect to the activation server, have tried with / without firewalls & peerblock with no effect, quadruple checked the hosts file with no effect, pinged and traced the paths on all of the IPs listed on the previous forum entry (which redirected me here) and they go through fine

the demo worked fine for me, just not the full game

As an update, I managed to get it to work after I was forced to format and reinstall windows last night

I would just love to know why I have to use the Adminstrator account to even get this game to recognize that the computer is online and even allow me to log i. There really should be no difference connectivity wise so why can't I connect while using my regular account, even when I tell the game to Run as Adminstraitor? This is such freaking bull crap.

I'm also getting the "Invalid email/password error" however, the game installed fine on my laptop. Does this game only allow one computer or should this not be happening?

In addition I'm on a university proxy server.

I would like to see what they have to say for themselves as well.  I've not been able to play with all user-submitted "fixes" yet (that will have to wait until the weekend), but an acknowledgement on their part that they're actively trying to SOLVE this issue would be nice.

The cynic in me says that they're waiting for us to solve it for them.  I would like to be proven wrong.

The good news, however, is that I've started up a new game of Morrowind (Elder Scrolls III).  <3

Alright got it working, damn proxy server. Anyone else having connection issues, if you're internet is through a proxy find a different connection, this is mostly relevant for uni students.

I get a problem when ever I try to logging it says "Please check your internet connection, If the problem persists, wait and try again later beacuse the servers may be temporarily unavailable" I have system endpoint protection and I turn it off and the fire walls and it still does it, I even cleared all my temp files and nothing.

I should still be able to activate through my university connection, my friend's on the same network and he could activate it fine... :(
The only thing I should have an issue with is connecting to the DA II servers *in-game,* but I can't get that far. :-P
And I know how to get around that problem because I connected to the servers in the demo.

Also tried activating it at my girlfriend's house (Normal internet connection with no fancy firewalls or anything) and it still failed to activate. (And yes, she could activate it on her laptop using her internet connection)

*sighs*
i turned everything of (antivirus, firewall, etc.), but it still says that i am not connected to the internet.
i tried a lot of the suggested solutions but nothing works. it would be nice if we could get some Feedback from Bioware on this.
also after it says it cannot connect and wants you to activate via product key it fails and then i cannot launch it anymore.
