Is anyone else having a hard time hearing the dialogue spoken? My set up is Dolby Digital reciever with 5.1 surround sound speaker set up. Sometimes I can hear the dialogue fine and other times it is very quiet and "echo-y". I noticed this issue with demo and hoped it wouldn't persist in the retail game.

The only audio problems I've had were with the dialogue sounding one touch lower during the cut-scenes that the rest of the game (as if I had turned the volume down one notch during the cut-scenes). I read this can be fixed under the audio and dialogue menu under Options, but I haven't tried it myself yet.

I'm having the same problem just on my TV speakers. Sound effects and music are earth shattering; dialog is like a whisper, as if the voices were mixed really low. Messing with my TV sound settings fixes it, but then I have to set it back whenever I play another game. Too strange....

Incidentally, why are there no sound options for stereo, surround, etc.? Something tells me that might be part of the problem, if the game is just default set up for something I don't have.

I'm having this same issue. Dialogue is really quiet and combat is insanely loud. The difference in audio levels is really starting to get to me.

Higgles: What did you adjust to get the volumes for dialogue and combat to even out?

I turned on my TV's fake "surround" sound, pumped up this slider called 'volume leveler' and turned on something called 'A.I. sound'. Don't know enough about audio or my TV to really understand what, exactly, any of that does; I just know DA2 is the only game that seems to require it all.

I still have issues. The sound has balanced out more, but not completely. Dialog is sometimes still pretty quiet and the sounds of combat are now too dull sounding (not necessarily quiet, but almost like the sound is coming from the distance).

It's still much better but ... All very weird. O_o

Well, whatever magic little thing my TV was doing suddenly became very unreliable. Sometimes the dialog is normal, other times it's even quieter than before! Finally just had to simply turn the sound effects and music volume way, way down, keep dialog at max, and jack up the volume on my TV.

Not ideal, as only the combat sound effects are really loud; in cutscenes, for example, sound effects are now barely audible since I have to keep the volume so far down.

Oy, BioWare ... Come on....

I hope that we can get an official response from Bioware on this issue. Is this something that you (Bioware) are planning on fixing? Or is it impossible to fix because the audio is what it is on the game disc?

Thanks.

Yes please, Bioware?

The not knowing is the worst part. :P

We've seen reports on this on PC and it's generally related to 5.1 stereo sound not being set up properly. On PC, I know we have a "Force Stereo" option on the PC options page but, off the top of my head, I don't know if that's also present on the Xbox options menu. If so, try toggling that on or off.

Good luck and let us know the result. Thanks!

The XBOX has an option to enable it to work in 5.1 mode, but I can't enforce the XBOX to always work in 5.1. On power up, the XBOX requests over the HDMI cable from the audio receiver what audio protocols the receiver can operate with. If the audio receiver responds that it can handle Dolby Digital 5.1, then XBOX sends the audio in that mode. If the audio receiver doesn't respond in time, then the XBOX defaults to stereo, even though the Dolby 5.1 option is selected on the XBOX. On my audio receiver, I can see which mode the XBOX is in. The dialogue issue does happen when I am in Dolby Digital 5.1.

Thanks for your reply. I am hoping that something can be done to resolve this issue. I haven't seen it happen recently, but I am careful to allow my receiver to completely power up before turning on the XBOX.

I will try that. I think the headphones even the sound out on the 360 but I will remove 5.1 audio to balance the levels.

I had my 360s audio settings on digital stereo and was experiencing the same missing dialog issue and when I set it to 5.1 dolby digital the problem was fixed. so maybe the setting only needs to be toggled in order to reset it.

In general, I found that the dialogue voices volume is too low. So I've lowered the music and sounds, so that the dialogue is much brighter. Try it, it really works.

Thanks for the response!
(And sorry for the late reply)

The Xbox has a setting for Digital Stereo, 51 or 5.1 WMA Pro. Mine was set for 5.1 (even though I'm only using my TV speakers). I set it for Digital Stereo and it seems to have helped a bit, but the disparity between combat sound effects vs. everything else -- especially dialogue -- still seems excessive. I still have to fiddle with my TV's sound settings (AI Sound and Volume Leveler), the game sound volumes, and turn the TV volume up. This is still something that I only have to do when I play DA2.
