For all of you having this problem: try turning off Screen Space Ambient Occlusion. I haven't noticed any decrease in graphics with it off as of yet (or as far as I know) but these freezes happen much less frequently when I turn it off. They still happen sometimes but a little less frequently. That and Quick Saving every five minutes seems to alleviate some stress in playing it.

The 270.32 alpha (pre beta) driver is worth a try if u got a problem. Worstcase is a rollback driver if it dont work. On my system with gtx 285 i run perfect in Dx11 modus with a great fps at 1920x1200. ( 30 to 60 fps)

Love from Norway. :)

You might want to try the 267.59 drivers too, for many they have provided better performance than the 267.26 and 270.32 drivers.

I fixed this problem by using DX9. VERY ANNOYING though!

That's not a fix, that's a workaround :(

I've been having this problem on and off in both dialogue and normal gameplay. I've noticed that a lot of the time, I usually get a message of being disconnected for the DA servers when the game resumes and I've been assuming that rather than being simply a graphical issue that its somehow network related.

For reference I'm running a GeForce 260GTX with latest drivers (though this issue happened before and after I updated them) and have a typical internet speed of 10Mbs so should be more than adequate for the game.

Happened to me once until now, during Sheperding Wolves, last cutscene in Undercity whit the bandits.
Once I had to make a choice it was back to normal and the problem never occured again.

Settings: DX11, very high details, high-res pack, every graphic setting turned on.

System: Core i5 2500K, 8GB RAM, Radeon 6950, Window 7 64-bit

Installed the 267.59 drivers. I needed to mod the inf. file cause the driver only support gtx 550 Ti and gts 450

But running just fine on my gtx 285 atm.  No problem and looks like a few more fps.

I previously posted somewhere that i had no performance problems with the game but it seems i should update my situation here.

I am currently having random hang ups during cutscenes but for me these totally random hang ups only started occuring shortly AFTER the deep roads expedition, before that i had no problems that i can recall.

Setting it to DirectX 9 solved the probs for me.

My system:

Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bits
Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E8400 @ 3.00 GHz
Mem: 4 GB
NVIDIA Geforce 9600 GT 512 mb

Was using an 8800GTS, DirectX 9, and there were no issues.
Have just upgraded to a 6870, playing with DX11 and high res textures, and am now getting the odd 5 second freeze in dialog. Doesn't bother me so much since i have already played through once with the old card so I know what people say. Sometimes I can go a few hours without it happening, other times it happens several times in the space of 15 minutes.

Rest of my PC is pretty old:

Core 2 Duo 2.4ghz, 32bit machine, 3GB RAM, Win 7 Enterprise.

I followed the advice of several posted comments and installed the archived nVidia driver 260.99 for my GeForce 260M video card. Problem solved: no freezes in several hours of game play. The latest (non-beta) nVidia driver (266.58) allowed the game to run but didn't prevent the freezes.

I have a strange issue. My game freezes and the UI becomes invisible but I can still see and move the mouse pointer. The only way to continue playing after such a freeze for me is to start the Taskmanager (ctrl alt del) as soon as I do that the game continues as if nothing was wrong.

I installed the 260.99 drivers, and it cleared the problem up....but only for a while. I'm now back to frequent hangups, especially on cut scenes. Very frustrating, please get us a patch!

I deinstalled the Catalyst 11.4 and went back to 11.2, not a single freeze since.
I´m playing at 1900x1200 at very high details and the high res texture pack.
I tried the Antivirus and Firewall Settings first but that did not help.

I'm not comfortable modding the ini file, so am stuck with straight drivers. I have an 8800GT.

Just wanted to add my experience on this issue to hopefully save anyone else who goes through this some time... I spent a few hours on the forums & going through the below steps:
Running on an Alienware M15x, core i7, 6 GB RAM & Nvidia GTX 260M.

I had driver v266.58 already on my machine when I installed DA2 via Steam. I experienced the freezing in some of the first cutscenes of the game, but also during combat - and even just running up the path in the opening area.

I initially tried dumbing down all graphics settings to low, and even setting the Win7 Aero interface to go to basic when launching the app to conserve memory, but no joy.

Tried Beta drivers v267.24, again with settings varying from high to low with the freezing still happening.

I've since installed the archived driver v260.99 and the freezing issue seems to have disappeatred, & I'm running at high setting, DX11, AAx4 & AFx4.

If it starts occuring again, I'll post here, but (fingers crossed) hopefully it'll stay fixed until a patch or updated driver is released.

Rolling back to ForceWare 260.99 has so far fixed the issues for me.

Not sure why 260.99 worked for me initially, then started having issues again. I didn't change any of the settings. Overall, it's not as bad as before....but still unbearable.

I have this problem as well. Usually it freezes for 30 or so seconds but then 95% of the time it will start back up again. It can happen anytime for me as well, not just in dialogue. I don't know a lot about computer specs since my boyfriend is the one who handles all that stuff for me but I think hitting the windows button or the ctrl+alt+delete button to get out of the game actually helps it start up again faster when I go back into it.

Have any of you tried the modded 267.59 driver? It should provide 260.99 performance, if not better, without any freezing, and it's a more up to date driver for other games as well.

Sounda like a good idea, though I've burnt so many hours messing about with settings & drivers now, I'd just like to get some actual game time in before doing any more changes... Might update to v267.59 at end of play tonight & see how it goes tomorrow.. will update on progress... Image IPB

I would try the 267.59 driver, but don't feel comfortable having to mod it. I would rather wait for a driver from Nvidia that doesn't require modification, or (preferably) a patch from Bioware that actually fixes the issue.
