I had this problem but it seems to have disappeared once I disabled the high res textures pack and reloaded. My GPU is a 9600GT, so I only have 512mb. I've had the beta drivers (267.24) from the beginning and otherwise am running on "high" settings and Dx11 renderer.

In a couple of the cases I did see a "connection lost to server" message around the slowdown, though I don't know if that was the cause or the effect. I have the D2D version of the game, so the server connection is to EA.

I've also seen some people recommend the alternate drivers as well some who've eliminated the problem by rolling back to the latest non-beta Nvidia drivers.

It's not the cause if video drivers fix the issue, it just seems to be an effect.

samme issue, u tried to solve it by doing Dx9 and lowering everything i had, but it stil comes

A tip from me is to CTRL + ALT + DEL and if you are lucky, you end up in windows, and you can then klick the program and the problem is gone, untill it strikes again

got the same issue here, only 10 minutes ingame and it has already happened a lot. Running on M17x with vista X64, qx9300, 280m SLI, 267.24 drivers. Steam edition of the game

edit: alt tabbing doesn't do anything, freezes still occur a lot afterwards. Relaunching the game doesn't work either.

Try this, it worked for me.

This worked for me on my crashing problem with GTX570. Noticed a huge improvement on framerate in Very High quality. Still crash from time to time if I turn on Screen Space Occusion. But at least I can stroll through Lowtown AND the Gallows without crashing once! Try this out if you are having problems.

And oh, Thank you Max Payne, it's one helluva discovery :)

TEMPORARY WORKAROUND:
We've had reports that alt-tabbing out of the game and back in will prevent this from recurring, at least for a little while.

This works, but it sucks as a workaround.

I am having this problem. I can play the game on maxed out settings, with the hi res pack now with the new Beta Drivers, but I still get the temp freezes.

Just as a side note since this is happening to me as well and only started happening a lot last night and I played all day Tuesday with no lag/slowdown issues. I ran the Rivatuner hardware monitoring and watched it when I had the slowdown/lag issues and noticed my core/memory drop to about 50% of it's default and then jump back up when the slowdown/lag went away. Hope this helps the devs.

Also having the same issue. I am running the new Nvidia Beta Drivers(new as of 3/09) on high texture details with a GTS 250 w/ 1GB VRAM. Alt-tabbing does help. This freezing occurs most of the time in conversations with NPCs and not combat or high intense graphics.

Same issue here. Alt+tab solves nothing for me, but pressing Esc and going to the menu helps ending the slowdown when it happens (but not for long). However, deactivating SSAO reduces the freezes duration a lot. But it still has the same low framerates no matter the config, even with and without HiRes textures (on DX11, well, DX10 in my case).

I don't know if it can be related, but I tried playing without internet connection and I gained a few FPS, but it still freezes normally with SSAO on. Maybe it's trying to check the game online constantly? Another thing that I'm seeing is that the game doesn't seem to use the available resources properly (even DA:O is able to use way more).

My specs: Q6600 2.4GHz, 6GB DDR3 RAM, GTX275. Windows Vista 64 fully updated, nVidia beta drivers (267.24).

Using a Radeon ATI 5850 on an ATI Phenom III processor, the beta drivers and Windows 7 64-bit and the game is unplayable because it keeps freezing during conversation. However my situation seems a bit different:

The screen goes dark and the words "Loading..." appear in the lower-right area of the screen when this happens. By the time it resumes, I've missed large chunks of the conversation. It's also completely reproducible as it will happen every single time I initiate conversation with Aveline, for example, or at specific dialogue points. Running in DX9 does nothing, neither does disabling the voice track (which is what's freezing) in sound options.

Same is happening here, around every 1 ~ 5 minutes, to the point it becomes unbearable.

It happens during battles, during cutscenes, during exploring... Heck, it even happens when I minimize DA2!

My system specs are as follows:
- Windows 7 64-bit
- nVidia GeForce GTX 275, build 267.24 (Beta)
- 6 GB RAM
- Intel i7 920 @ ~2,67 GHz

Please fix this BioWare. This is getting too annoying.

Yeah, I've had this happen most often with dialogue/conversations but also in combat sometimes- the game just freezes but the audio still plays like normal. Usually I let it sit for a bit and things will unfreeze.

Using the preview 11.4 drivers from AMD, running on DX11 very high.

Windows 7 64 bit
AMD X3 720
AMD 5770

Same here. Periodic freezing at pretty much any point. Lasts for about 10 seconds each time. Tried using the 267.26 drivers, but that caused my display to glitch out, so not really an option.

- W7 64bit
- Intel i5 660
- Geforce GTS 250

I am experiencing perfectly fine gameplay, then all of a sudden it will freeze until i alt tab and tab back into the game. the freezes happen very often, about once every few minutes. They happen during fights, just walking around, and during cutscenes. During cutscenes, they freeze, then start back up and the dialogue has two people talking at the same time...

I am using a Geforce 9600 GT with 1 gb of VRAM on windows 7 64 bit.

These issues happen for me with dx 11 as well as 9.

PLEASE HELP SO I DON'T HAVE TO ATTEMPT TO TRADE THIS PC VERSION IN FOR THE XBOX VERSION!

Disagree 100%.  I'm not (and other users as well) are not asking anything excessive.  But when you pay $60 for a game, you should expect it to at least work....  I didn't pay to be a beta tester

Experiencing this error with some regularity. Appears to happen most often in conversations; alt-tabbing out and back in will generally make it run smoother for at least another few minutes. Chugging happens sporadically for me---sometimes it'll run for almost an hour with no problems, sometimes I'll have trouble every five minutes.

Using an NVidia 260GTX, with 267.24 drivers. I'm going to try the 267.26 Ti driver trick and see what happens.
(Win 7 32-bit, Core 2 Duo 3.4 Ghz, 4 gb RAM, 896 mb vRAM)

Seems to happen regardless of what video settings I use (high res textures, not high res textures, DX11, DX9, etc).

EDIT: Forgot to mention, after I alt-tab back in, I almost invariably see a "Could not connect to EA servers" error message on the left-hand side of the screen.

Alt-tabbing out doesn't prevent anything.  When the game finally responds, the current freeze is over.  The next freeze is on its way, whether it be twenty minutes or two seconds from the time you bring the game back up.
