What if it goes wrong? Even the best laid plans can go awry, and I certainly don't want to end up with a dead video card.
In short:
I'm not taking any chances, unless it is easy to perform a rollback after such a workaround.

Latest Beta drivers
Win Vista 64 bit
6GB Ram
Core i7 820
DX11
1920x1080
8x AA
16x AF
HIGH ( can't do Very high grayed out)
vsync ON
I get 53-59 fps except during the freezes
I had this issue horribly during the first day. The lags were during the cutscenes and just before a cutscene occurs.
I turned off vsync and the problem has largely been resolved.
It has happened once in 6 hours of game play since then , again during a cutscene.
I hate the screen tearing, but it is better than the freezing.
Anyone know what I have to do to turn on "very high" ?

I have been able to play the game now without it getting stuck. I did try using the NVidia beta driver but it did not help with the freezing. I am still using the beta driver (267.24) as well.
I think this may have caused me the problems since my video card only has 896 MB of video ram.
Good luck everyone.
My system stats: Windows 7 64 SP1 - Core I7 860 - 8 Gigs Ram - NVidia GTX 260 video card

The problem has now begun for me aswell. Did'nt have an issue before Kirkwall though but now since I've entered the city, the conversations freezes and jumps fast forward...
AMD 955 x4 black edition @ 3.2ghz
4 gig RAM
HIS Radeon 5850 1 gig
1900x1080
dx11 Very high
vsync on
4x aa
4x af
rest turned of except blur thingy....
Will try the beta drivers now since Im on 11.2 right now.
Quoting myself here.....
Uninstalled my 11.2 drivers.
Used "driver sweep" in "safe mode" to get rid of all reg entries and such that could cause an driver conflict.
Installed the preview drivers alias 11.4
Have now been playing for about 3 hours without so much as an stuttering in the cutscenes. Worked for me it seems!

Running the game on windows XP.
Hardware:
Athlon 64 x2 5600+
3.25 GB RAM
Geforce GTX 275 running 266.58 drivers
Other Notes:
Game is set to
1920x1080, low detail everything else off.
The demo was playable and ran at normal speed. The full version from Steam is running at a minimum of 3-4x the speed that the demo did. I don't think this is normal. I can sort of play by pausing constantly but it doesn't seem to be an effective solution. I did run a preinstall and wonder if I should try a reinstall to clear the data.

Tried every solution and workaround I've seen here and cannot prevent the damn game from crashing regardless. It runs perfectly while it is running and then just blows up outta' nowhere at various points in play time. I'm starting to feel like any work on my part is futile and that Nvidia and Bioware just need to get their acts together before I'll be able to play this thing for more than fifteen minutes at a time.

It is easy. If somthing go wrong, simply rollback your driver.

The most annoying part is that I seem to get my freeze mainly on the loading screens, where I've had about 5 of them so far. The animations just stop, the loading thingy in the lower left corner stops spinning, yet the sound carries on playing. At this stage I can't alt+tab, I can't ctrl+alt+del, I can't do anything. Dragon Age won't respond, and a while after attempting to wait it out the computer gives up and freezes too.
Only way I've been able to get rid of the loading screen freeze so far is to reboot the computer.
It didn't happen during the first 6 hours of playing, but shortly after that I got the first freeze in a dialogue, and a few minutes after that the game froze on a loading screen. Now it takes between 30-60 minutes after startup for the game to freeze again. Always on loading screens.
Running the game on 'Very High' in 1920x1200, with v-sync turned off, AA and AF turned off and the other settings which I can't remember the name of are all turned on.
No High-Res texture pack installed.
Windows 7 Professional 64-bit
Radeon HD 5870, 1GB, latest drivers (not the beta drivers)
4GB DDR3, 1600MHz
Intel Core i5 Quad Core i5-760, 2.80GHz
Signature Edition
Edit: Running the game in DX11 mode. Generally getting around 40-45 fps.
Loading screens just started to scare me
Edit 2: Had a similar problem in Dragon Age: Origins where the game just became slower and slower the longer I played. Eventually loading screens took about 5 minutes to get through. That was patched away though.

If it goes wrong, worst case scenario is that the drivers won't install, it won't kill your video card. All NVIDIA drivers are universal, hence how modding the .inf has worked for me, and alot of others. NVIDIA, for some reason, just device locked this .inf to only work for the 560 Ti for some reason. Modding .infs has been around since well before now. And once again, if you do have any problems, just roll back the driver using Windows.

yes. How do we mod the Nvidia GT 9600 M drivers? This is a very fast card with 1 gig of VRAM and runs most games i have on full settings. The INI is different and hard to modify. Any help on what to change on 9600 M driver?

I modded my mobile card to the 267.26 .inf, you just gotta look through the different mobile .infs to find your specific card. It is a pain, but it is possible.

In other words DA2 is indeed visually superior on PC, freezing. If you want to play it smoothly, even if you have a *** * ******* * ******-super-blaster-PC you'll have to play it as seen on consoles. Great.

Well a lot of people using the DX11 renderer shouldn't actually be using with their current hardware. Well that and Nvidia drivers apparently suck

Game gfx settings are as follows:
Resolution: 1680 x 1050 (down from native 1920 x 1200)
DX11 Renderer
Vertical Sync is ON
Graphics Detail set to High
AA is set to 2
Every other setting is OFF or set to 0.
Game runs nice and smooth 55 - 60 fps then I periodically get massive drop in FPS, staying between 0 and 3 fps for roughly ten seconds then it bounces back to normal. This happens in combat, exploration mode and in cutscenes. I have noticed it occur more in cutscenes.
Other than this, the game does look most excellent. The combat is sooo much better, faster, more intense and such a massive improvement from DA1, my mage is like on PCP and Speed with his spells, very fluid, very very nice. I hope this issue gets resolved soon so we can all enjoy what is no doubt going to be a stonking title.
*edit* Have changed to DX9 renderer and not had a framerate issue since. I will try the new beta drivers and DX11 and see how that goes.

This happens to me mostly while engaging in a Dialogue Scene with someone. The first part hangs or slows down immensely and then it snaps back into to time as the next part of the dialogue occurs. There is even sound overlap, which makes what people are saying nigh incomprehensible.
Similar issue here. About ten minutes into the game it froze during combat. And it freeezes ever since, but particularly during dialogue scenes. Most of the time the game will continue after 30 seconds with a sound overlap.
I installed new video- and audio-drivers today, so everything is updated. I'm using a laptop (Toshiba Satego) with an Nvidia GeForce 8700M GT and Windows Vista (32 bit). Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be a beta-driver for my system and I'm a little bit worried to modify the other beta-driver as was suggested.
Edit: In the game I selected "DirectX 11", details "high", with verticalsync on. Everything else is not activated. The high resolution texture pack is not installed.

I agree with you, but when you have ~50 fps in most games - including this one - at max settings (with all DX11 features activated) I don't think it's weak hardware but most probably faulty engine implementation.
To be honest, I wouldn't be surprised if that's another of those textures caching (I'm missing the exact name here) console-engine features badly ported to PC.
My bet would go to some weirdness about vsync though (anyone aware on that 59/60Hz one?) but I've tried everything I know about it here and nothing yet. Strange thing is that at some game sessions I have no freezing at all, and at others every now and then. Figuring out a pattern isn't being easy.
